Not Just For Tonight

a/n > sorry for being inactive mental health wise wasn’t the best and i had a bunch of exams but now i’m slightly out of my writers block and open for requests!
the bass in the frat house was loud enough to shake the floorboards.
you regretted coming almost immediately.
your friends had practically dragged you here after weeks of hearing “you never go out anymore” and “one party won’t kill you.” now they were somewhere in the crowd, probably tipsy and dancing under flashing red lights while you stood near the kitchen island nursing the same drink for twenty minutes.
college parties always felt too warm.
too loud.
too full of people pretending not to look at each other while secretly looking at everyone.
you were debating texting your roommate for an excuse to leave when you noticed her.
tall.
black dress shirt with the sleeves rolled to her elbows. dark skirt. gold rings glinting under the dim kitchen lights. she stood across the room like she didn’t belong there either, one shoulder against the wall while everyone moved around her like waves around a rock.
her expression was unreadable.
pretty in a way that almost irritated you.
someone said her name beside you.
“yaoyorozu.”
you repeated it silently.
momo yaoyorozu.
she looked up suddenly, almost like she’d felt you staring.
your stomach tightened.
then your friend mina appeared out of nowhere, grinning too hard.
“there you are!” she yelled over the music. “come do shots with us.”
“absolutely not.”
“boring.”
mina grabbed your wrist anyway, pulling you through the crowd. you stumbled after her, apologizing to strangers as you squeezed past bodies and spilled drinks.
and somehow—
somehow—
you ended up crashing directly into momo yaoyorozu.
her hand caught your waist before you could fall.
warm.
firm.
your breath hitched embarrassingly fast.
“sorry,” you blurted.
her eyes flicked over your face slowly. “you okay?”
her voice was low. smooth. dangerously calm compared to the chaos around you.
you nodded too quickly.
mina snorted beside you. “oh, this is insane.”
“mina,” you warned.
“i’m leaving before i witness something,” she laughed, disappearing back into the crowd like the traitor she was.
you stared after her in disbelief.
momo’s hand was still on your waist.
neither of you moved.
then the lights suddenly flickered.
someone yelled.
the music cut out for half a second before returning louder than before.
“great,” momo muttered.
“power issues?”
“old house.”
you laughed softly.
she looked at you again after that, like hearing you laugh had shifted something.
“you don’t seem like you want to be here,” she said.
“is it that obvious?”
“a little.”
“you?”
her lips twitched faintly. “my friends insisted.”
“same.”
for a moment, the tension eased into something lighter.
then someone shoved past you hard enough to knock you sideways.
momo caught your arm this time.
“c’mon,” she said over the noise. “before somebody breaks your nose.”
you let her guide you through the hallway, your pulse stupidly loud in your ears. she stopped near a door tucked away from the party.
“closet?” you asked.
“quiet closet.”
“that sounds mildly threatening.”
it earned you an actual smile this time.
god.
she opened the door and stepped inside first. you followed her into the cramped dark space smelling faintly of laundry detergent and cedarwood.
then the door slammed shut behind you.
a click.
silence.
you blinked.
“…did we just get locked in?”
momo tried the handle once.
didn’t budge.
“wow,” you sighed. “this is incredibly cliché.”
a soft laugh escaped her.
you could barely see her in the dark except for the outline of her shoulders and the faint shine in her eyes.
outside, the music sounded muffled now. distant.
inside the closet, everything felt smaller.
warmer.
closer.
“guess we wait,” she murmured.
you leaned back against the wall, trying not to notice how little space there actually was between you two.
“so,” you said quietly, “do you always rescue strangers at parties?”
“only the pretty ones.”
your breath caught.
she said it so casually too.
like it didn’t wreck your entire train of thought.
“that was smooth,” you whispered.
“i know.”
you laughed again, quieter this time.
momo stepped closer.
you felt it before you fully realized it, the shift in the air, the way conversations outside faded into static. her perfume was subtle, warm, expensive-smelling.
your heart hammered.
“you’re nervous,” she said softly.
“you’re very intense.”
“is that a bad thing?”
“i haven’t decided yet.”
another inch closer.
your back pressed fully against the wall now.
momo’s hand found your waist again, slower this time, like she was giving you the chance to pull away.
you didn’t.
her thumb brushed against the fabric of your shirt.
the tension was unbearable.
the kind that sat heavy in your chest and made every little movement feel important.
“you keep looking at my lips,” she murmured.
heat flooded your face instantly. “you noticed that?”
“mhm.”
“that’s embarrassing.”
“i think it’s cute.”
you swallowed hard.
outside, the bass vibrated through the walls.
inside, it felt like the entire world had narrowed down to her hand on your waist and the way she was looking at you like she already knew what you wanted.
“momo,” you whispered.
she leaned in slowly enough for you to stop her.
you didn’t.
her lips brushed yours once.
light.
testing.
then again, deeper this time, careful but consuming in a way that made your knees weak. your fingers curled into the front of her shirt automatically, and her grip on your waist tightened just enough to pull you closer.
you could feel her heartbeat.
or maybe it was yours.
the kiss tasted faintly like expensive liquor and something sweet.
when she pulled back, your foreheads rested together for a second.
neither of you spoke.
you didn’t really know how to.
momo exhaled softly against your skin. “you sure you were dragged here unwillingly?”
you laughed breathlessly. “i might owe my friends an apology.”
“don’t give them too much credit.”
“why?”
her hand slid slightly against your waist, gentle now.
“because,” she said quietly, eyes half-lidded, “i don’t think this was just for tonight.”

A few days passed.
Not awkward. Not tense. Just… normal.
Which was rare for me.
When Kirishima invited me to movie night with Mina and Jirou, I almost said no out of habit. But those three were different. They didn’t make me feel like I had to perform or explain myself. They just… let me exist.
Class 1-A was there too—Bakugou complaining about the movie choice, Kaminari half-asleep on the couch, Sero stretched out on the floor like he belonged there.
I stayed near the edge at first.
Then the movies got boring.
“So,” Mina said, already grabbing a controller, “Mario Kart. Loser does cleanup.”
That was how it started.
Laughter. Actual laughter—sharp and real, not forced. I forgot to guard my expressions, forgot to check how I looked or sounded. At some point, we ended up baking, flour everywhere, Jirou yelling at Kaminari to stop eating the batter.
For once… I was having fun.
Without pretending.
I noticed the moment it happened.
The way she leaned back laughing, head tipped slightly, eyes bright and unguarded. No walls. No sharp edges. Just… her.
It made something in my chest flutter in a way that caught me off guard.
This.
This was who she was when she felt safe.
I didn’t interrupt. Didn’t stare too long. Just kept the moment quiet in my head, like something fragile.
Then her phone buzzed.
She glanced down—once.
And everything collapsed.
Her smile vanished. Shoulders tensed. Color drained from her face.
She checked a missed call.
Then a text.
I didn’t see the screen, but I saw the damage.
“I—uh,” she said quickly, already stepping back. “Sorry. I need to… I need to go.”
“You okay?” Mina asked.
“Yeah,” she lied. “Just tired.”
She left before anyone could press her.
I barely made it to my dorm before my hands started shaking.
I called him back.
That was my mistake.
“Y/N,” my father snapped the second he picked up. “This behavior is absolutely unacceptable and disgusting. Smoking, drinking, staying out late—and don’t think I haven’t noticed your grades slipping.”
I pressed my back to the door, eyes burning.
“You are ruining the family name,” he continued. “And you aren’t even in a relationship with someone respectable. Do you have any idea how that looks?”
My throat tightened.
“Get this fixed by the end of next week,” he said coldly. “Or you’ll be on the streets. I mean it.”
The line went dead.
I slid down the door, breath hitching, staring at the floor like it had answers.
I waited.
Five minutes.
Ten.
Something was wrong. Really wrong.
So I walked to her dorm.
When I knocked, it opened barely an inch.
“Go away,” she said, voice rough. “Please.”
Her eyes were red. Puffy. She wouldn’t look at me—and I noticed, immediately, how raw her lips were. Like she’d bitten them until they hurt.
That was it.
“Move,” I said—not loud, but firm.
She froze.
I gently pushed the door open, stepping inside and closing it behind me.
“Sero—” I tried again, but my voice cracked.
Before I could pull away, his hand lifted—gentle but steady—guiding my teeth away from my lips.
“Don’t,” he said quietly. “You’re hurting yourself.”
That broke me.
I didn’t even realize I was crying until his arms wrapped around me, warm and solid, pulling me in like he’d decided for both of us.
I stiffened.
Then collapsed.
She shook against me, fists clenched in my shirt like she was afraid I’d disappear if she let go.
I held her tighter—not crushing, just present.
“You don’t have to do this alone,” I murmured. “You don’t always have to lock everyone out.”
She laughed weakly, breath hitching. “That’s easy for you to say.”
“Maybe,” I replied. “But it doesn’t make it less true.”
Her grip tightened.
And slowly… she talked.
I didn’t mean to tell him about Monoma.
It just… slipped out.
How being with him felt like constantly being measured.
How he made everything a competition.
How I started shrinking myself just to avoid arguments.
How dating a hero course guy made my father proud—but made me miserable.
Sero didn’t interrupt once.
Didn’t defend heroes.
Didn’t minimize it.
Didn’t tell me what I should’ve done.
He just listened.
And that scared me more than anything.
Because I felt safe.
And safety was dangerous.
When she finally quieted, I rested my chin lightly against her head.
“You don’t have to decide anything right now,” I said. “Just… let people show up for you.”
She didn’t answer.
But she didn’t pull away either.
I stayed there, wrapped in his arms, heart racing—not from fear, but from the realization settling deep in my chest.
I felt safe with him.
And that terrified me.
Because once you let someone in like this…
They have the power to hurt you.
And for the first time in a long time—
I wasn’t sure I wanted to push him away.

I waited longer than I wanted to.
Like—staring at my phone, pacing my dorm room longer.
But eventually I typed it anyway.
Y/n
Sero: hey
Sero: sorry to text so late
Sero: just wanted to say thanks again for today
Sero: seriously, you helped a lot
I set the phone face down on my bed, like that would stop my heart from racing.
It buzzed a minute later.
I saw his name pop up while I was lying on my bed, staring at the ceiling.
I debated ignoring it.
Didn’t.
Sero Hanta
Y/n: You’re welcome.
Not warm. Not cold. Just… factual.
I stared at the screen, thumb hovering, then typed before I could talk myself out of it.
Sero Hanta
Y/n: Random question.
Y/n: Do you smoke?
I blinked at the screen.
That… came out of nowhere.
Y/n
Sero: uh
Sero: no
Sero: never really wanted to
I frowned, fingers hovering.
Y/n
Sero: do you?
The dots appeared.
I hesitated.
Then decided I didn’t owe him a polished version of myself.
Sero Hanta
Y/n: Yeah.
There it was. Simple. Honest.
My chest tightened before I could stop it.
Y/n
Sero: oh
Sero: is it like… a stress thing?
Immediately—immediately—I worried I’d crossed a line.
Y/n
Sero: sorry, you don’t have to answer that
But she replied anyway.
Sero Hanta
Y/n: Sometimes.
I waited.
The response came fast.
Y/n
Sero: I just—
Sero: that stuff’s rough on your lungs
Sero: especially if you’re in labs all the time
Sero: i’m not judging, i swear
Sero: i just got a little worried
I stared at the screen, realizing too late how that probably sounded.
Worried.
God.
There it was.
That tight feeling in my chest. The instinctive urge to pull back.
Worry meant expectations.
Concern meant attachment.
Attachment meant eventually being disappointed—or disappointing them.
I didn’t know how to respond to someone caring without making it feel like pressure.
So I closed myself off.
Sero Hanta
Y/n: I’m fine.
Y/n: You don’t need to worry about me.
Short. Final.
Then I locked my phone.
Oh no.
Oh no.
I reread the messages, every word suddenly sounding wrong in my head.
Too much. Too fast. Too personal.
I hadn’t meant to scare her off.
I barely slept.
By the time classes ended, I was already halfway to the support labs.
I didn’t even think it through—just knew I couldn’t leave it like that.
When I saw her inside, bent over a worktable, hoodie sleeves pushed up, I froze for half a second.
Then walked in anyway.
“Hey,” I said, voice careful. “Can I—can I talk to you for a second?”
She straightened slowly, guarded expression snapping into place.
“What is it?”
I swallowed.
“I’m really sorry about last night,” I said quickly. “I wasn’t trying to lecture you or make you uncomfortable or act like I know what’s best for you. I just—”
I exhaled, hands clenching at my sides.
“I was worried. And I didn’t think before I typed.”
Her eyes flickered—confusion, then something softer before she masked it.
“I’m not mad,” she said, but her tone was distant.
“I know,” I replied. “But I didn’t want you thinking I see you as some problem to fix. I don’t.”
I met her eyes fully.
“I just… care more than I meant to say out loud.”
The silence that followed was heavy.
I didn’t know what to do with him standing there, apologizing like he’d committed some unforgivable crime instead of just… being human.
No one had ever chased me down just to say sorry for worrying.
I looked away, biting my lip without realizing it.
“You didn’t do anything wrong,” I muttered.
But part of me—the part I kept buried—was terrified that I meant the opposite.

I told myself not to overthink it.
Hero Course guys were all the same—charming until they weren’t, confident until it tipped into condescending. I’d learned that lesson the hard way.
Monoma had been… exhausting. Always competing, always needing to be the smartest in the room. Dating him felt like being a prop in his personal monologue. Support Course this, Hero Course that—like I should’ve been grateful he noticed me at all.
So yeah. I didn’t date hero guys anymore.
Which is why Sero standing outside the support lab at exactly five o’clock, hands in his pockets, waiting instead of barging in, threw me off.
“Oh—hey,” he said when he saw me. Not loud. Not smug. Just… normal.
“You’re on time,” I said automatically.
He smiled, sheepish. “You said after five. I didn’t wanna push it.”
Strike one against my expectations.
I unlocked the lab and walked past him without ceremony. “Let’s see the gear.”
Okay. First impression in person?
She was shorter than I expected—but not in a fragile way. More like compact intensity. Like she took up space without trying. Hoodie sleeves pushed up, grease smudged on her knuckles, eyes already scanning my equipment before I even finished setting it down.
No fake smile. No forced politeness.
And somehow… that was hotter than anything.
I laid the gauntlets out on the table. “So the tearing happens here,” I said, pointing to the connector seam. “Every time I overextend.”
She leaned in close—close enough that I caught the faint smell of metal and citrus—and bit down on her lower lip as she focused.
I noticed immediately.
Didn’t say a word.
I ran my fingers along the seam, already seeing the problem.
“They used a rigid polymer where it needs elasticity,” I muttered. “You’re putting too much tension on a static point.”
Sero hummed thoughtfully. “So it’s not a me problem.”
I shot him a look. “It’s mostly a design problem.”
Instead of getting defensive, he nodded. “Cool. What would you change?”
That… made me pause.
Monoma would’ve argued. Or corrected me. Or turned it into a debate.
Sero just listened.
I cleared my throat. “I’d replace this with a layered composite. Flexible core, reinforced outer weave. It’ll stretch without splitting.”
His eyes lit up—not in a cocky way, but like he was genuinely impressed. “That sounds… insanely smart.”
I felt my face warm. Annoying.
“Yeah. Well. That’s the point of the Support Course.”
He frowned slightly. “I know.”
I blinked. “You do?”
“Yeah,” he said easily. “You guys make half our quirks usable. Heroes without support tech are just… people who punch good.”
I stared at him.
Then looked away before he could see how much that hit.
There it was—that wall.
She stiffened just a little, shoulders squaring like she was bracing for something that never came.
I didn’t comment. Didn’t tease. Just followed her lead.
“So,” I said, lighter but still sincere, “if you help me redesign this, I owe you. Big time.”
She snorted. “You owe me materials reimbursement.”
I laughed. “That too.”
Silence settled—not awkward, just full. She worked while I watched, occasionally handing her tools when she asked. When our fingers brushed once, she flinched like she hadn’t expected me to respect the space she carved out.
That told me more than words ever could.
I hated that he was making me rethink things.
Every time I waited for him to interrupt, he didn’t.
Every time I expected a joke at my expense, he stayed serious.
Every time I braced for ego… there was none.
“You’re different,” I muttered before I could stop myself.
He glanced up. “Different how?”
I bit my lip again—harder this time.
“Never mind.”
He didn’t push.
And that scared me more than if he had.
I wanted to ask.
I wanted to know.
But I could tell—whatever made her this guarded wasn’t something I got to poke at yet.
So I just said, “For what it’s worth, I’m glad Kirishima gave me your number.”
She rolled her eyes. “I’m still mad at him.”
“Fair.”
But she didn’t tell me to leave.
And when she handed me the first redesigned sketch, her fingers lingered just half a second longer than necessary.
I noticed that too.
Didn’t say a word.

I notice it before anyone says anything.
Bakugou isn’t yelling as much.
He still snaps—still scowls, still calls people idiots—but it’s… muted. Like the volume knob got turned down just a little. He stands closer during training. Waits an extra second before blasting off. Hands me my water bottle without saying a word.
It’s subtle. Too subtle for most people.
But Mina sees it.
I catch her staring at him during lunch, chin resting in her palm, eyes narrowed in thought. When Bakugou slides his tray onto the bench across from me instead of his usual spot, her gaze flicks straight to me.
She grins.
I kick her under the table.
She only laughs and goes back to her food, not calling me out—not saying a word—but I know. She knows.
Everyone else just looks vaguely confused.
“Has Bakugou always been this… quiet?” Kaminari whispers.
“No,” Kirishima says slowly. “But I’m not complaining.”
Bakugou ignores them all, eyes focused on his food. Still, when I stand to throw my trash away, he shifts his foot so I don’t trip over the bench leg.
I pretend not to notice.
Later that evening, I knock on his door before I can talk myself out of it.
He opens it almost immediately, brows furrowed. “What.”
“Can you help me dye my hair?” I ask, words tumbling out fast. “I don’t trust Mina not to mess it up and I need someone who’ll actually follow directions.”
He blinks.
“…You trust me with chemicals?”
“Yes,” I say instantly. Then, quieter, “Somehow.”
He scoffs, stepping aside. “You’re an idiot.”
But he grabs his jacket.
We’re halfway to the gas station when I realize how normal this feels. Like walking beside him is something I’ve done a hundred times before.
“Bakugou—” I start.
“Katsuki.”
I stop walking.
He doesn’t.
I stare at his back. “What?”
He glances over his shoulder, annoyed but not angry. “If you’re gonna keep talkin’ to me, call me Katsuki.”
My heart stutters. “…Okay.”
He nods once, like that settles it.
At the gas station, I grab snacks while he stands by the drinks, arms crossed. When I toss a bag of chips into the basket, I glance at him.
“Bakugou, do you want—”
“Katsuki,” he corrects, voice low. Not harsh. Just firm.
My cheeks warm. “Sorry. Katsuki.”
Something unreadable flashes across his face. Satisfaction? Relief?
He turns away quickly. “Get whatever. I’m payin’.”
On the walk back, a soft meow breaks the quiet.
I stop immediately. “Oh my god.”
A little cat peeks out from behind a fence, tail flicking. Without thinking, I crouch down.
“Hey baby,” I murmur.
Bakugou stops a few steps behind me.
…Bakugou. Katsuki.
I glance back. “I have a cat back home,” I say. “Her name’s Clover. She’s mean, dramatic, and only likes me.”
He snorts. “Sounds familiar.”
I laugh before I can stop myself.
She talks differently when she’s not guarded.
About her cat. About home. About dumb little things she thinks don’t matter. I don’t interrupt. I just listen, committing it to memory like it’s important.
Because it is.
Back in my dorm room, the dye’s laid out, gloves snapped on. He follows instructions better than I expected—careful, precise, hands steady.
“Why flowers?” he asks suddenly.
I glance at him. “Huh?”
“Your tattoos,” he says, eyes flicking briefly to my side where my shirt rides up. “You said most of them are flowers.”
My pulse jumps.
“They’re personal,” I say, then hesitate. “…Do you wanna see them?”
He stills. “You sure?”
I nod.
I turn, lifting my shirt just enough to show him—the delicate linework, the petals curling along my skin, the music inked softly behind my ear, the lotus and script tucked where only a few people have ever seen.
His breath catches. Just barely.
He looks at me differently now. Like he’s seeing something he wasn’t meant to—but was trusted with anyway.
I feel exposed. Vulnerable.
“So,” I say quickly, trying to laugh it off, “yeah. Flowers.”
She’s beautiful.
Not in a loud way. Not in a way that demands attention. It sneaks up on you, settles in your chest, and refuses to leave.
I look away first.
“Yeah,” I mutter. “They suit you.”
The dye sets. The night stretches on. We talk about nothing and everything, voices low, comfortable.
When he finally leaves, the room feels emptier—but warmer too.
And I don’t think either of us believes this is nothing anymore.

I don’t realize how tightly my chest feels until Mina and I step out onto the dorm balcony, the noise from inside muffled behind the door. The air is cool, quiet—too quiet for the way my thoughts keep racing.
Mina leans against the railing, glancing at me from the corner of her eye.
“You’ve been staring into space since we got back,” she says. “That’s never a good sign.”
“I’m fine,” I answer too quickly.
She hums, unconvinced. “Mmhm. Try again.”
I sigh, gripping the railing. I didn’t plan to tell anyone. I barely wanted to admit it to myself. But Mina’s always been able to see right through me.
“I think,” I start, then stop. My throat feels tight. “I think I’m starting to like Bakugou.”
Her head snaps toward me.
“…Bakugou Bakugou?”
I groan. “Please don’t make it sound worse than it already is.”
Her surprise fades into something softer. “Oh.”
I stare out at the campus lights. “I’m not going to do anything about it though. He probably doesn’t like me back. And even if he did… it’s Bakugou. He’s rough. He’s mean. He doesn’t really do feelings.”
Mina’s quiet for a moment. “You don’t know that.”
“I do,” I say. “He’s just doing what he does. Training. Making sure I don’t slow him down. That’s all it is.”
She studies me, then sighs. “If you say so.”
That answer doesn’t comfort me like I want it to.
By the time I’m back in my room, showered and curled up in my hoodie, my head hurts from overthinking. I’m halfway through scrolling my phone when there’s a knock at my door.
It’s late.
I open it—and freeze.
Bakugou’s standing there, holding a takeout bag like it personally offended him. The familiar scent hits me immediately, warm and faintly sweet beneath soap. My heart skips before I can stop it.
“Took you long enough,” he says. “Move.”
“What—why are you here?” I ask, stepping aside automatically.
He walks in like it’s nothing, setting the food on my desk.
“You didn’t eat much earlier.”
I blink. “…You noticed?”
He stiffens, then scowls. “Don’t make it weird. You pass out again and it’s my problem.”
Right. Of course.
“Oh,” I say quietly.
“Eat.” He pushes a container toward me.
I sit on my bed and open it. It’s still warm. It’s also exactly what I like, which I absolutely refuse to comment on.
He drags my chair closer and sits backwards in it, grabbing the remote.
“You got anything decent?”
I barely nod before the movie starts.
This is stupid.
I tell myself that as I watch her pick at her food, then actually start eating like she’s supposed to. The tight feeling in my chest eases a little. Annoying.
She looks smaller like this—curled into her bed, hoodie sleeves covering her hands. Way different from how she looks during training. Way different from how she looked when she almost blacked out.
I don’t like thinking about that.
So I keep my mouth shut and focus on the screen, even when I catch myself glancing at her to make sure she’s still awake.
The movie switches sometime after the first one ends. I don’t even remember asking him to stay, but he does. The room feels quieter with him here—heavier, almost.
“You can go if you want,” I say softly.
He scoffs. “I’d be gone already if I wanted to.”
That shouldn’t mean anything. It still does.
Another movie ends. He leans his head back against my mattress, arms crossed. His voice is quieter when he speaks.
“…You good?”
My chest tightens. “Yeah.”
I don’t know if he believes me.
She lies.
I know she does. I don’t call her out on it. I don’t know why.
The room smells like her shampoo and something warm underneath it, and it’s messing with my head. I shouldn’t be here. I should leave before I do something stupid—like stay.
Eventually, he stands, stretching.
“Get some sleep.”
“Bakugou,” I blurt before I can stop myself.
He pauses at the door.
“Thanks,” I say. “For the food. And… staying.”
He doesn’t look at me when he answers. “Don’t get used to it.”
Then he’s gone.
I lie back, staring at the ceiling, his scent still lingering in my room. On my sheets. In the air. Everywhere.
It doesn’t mean anything, I tell myself.
He just wanted you to eat. To be quiet. To not be a problem.
Still… I don’t open the window.
And that makes my chest ache in a way I don’t want to think about yet.

summary › sero hanta, certified lover boy, had his eyes on this one girl from the support course, since it’s his last year he figured why not pursue her, not knowing what he was getting himself into.
note › i really like this i’m experimenting with different kind writing styles to see what i like best i may stick with this.
part one | part two | part three
I didn’t plan on it becoming a thing.
At first, it was just noticing her. Support Course. Always smelled faintly like solder and clean laundry. Hair usually pulled back, sleeves rolled up, hands always busy. She didn’t laugh loud like Mina or flirt like half the girls Mineta drooled over. She just… focused. Sharp eyes. Sharp tongue when someone underestimated her.
Certified lover boy? Yeah, sure. Guilty.
But I wasn’t stupid.
It was my last year. Last chance to be bold instead of wondering what if.
So I did what any sane guy would do—I asked Kirishima.
“Bro,” I said, leaning back in my chair after training, tape still wrapped around my forearms. “You got the number for that Support Course girl? Y’know, the one who helped redesign Aoyama’s belt thing.”
Kirishima didn’t even blink. “Oh, yeah. Y/N? She helped me reinforce my gear last semester. You need it for hero stuff?”
I hesitated half a second. Then nodded. “Yeah.”
Technically not a lie.
My phone buzzed seconds later.
Kirishima
Kirishima: don’t be weird
Kirishima: she’s cool but scary
Kirishima: also don’t tell her i gave it to you
I grinned. Too late for that last part.
I was elbow-deep in schematics when my phone buzzed.
Unknown number.
I ignored it.
Then it buzzed again.
And again.
I sighed, wiped my hands on my hoodie, and glanced down.
Unknown
Unknown: hey! sorry to bother you outta nowhere
Unknown: this is sero hanta—class 1-A?
I froze.
Why does a hero course guy have my number?
I stared at the screen, jaw tightening, before typing back.
Sero Hanta
Y/n: How did you get this number.
The typing bubbles appeared instantly.
Okay. So she went straight for the throat.
Respect.
Y/n
Sero: …kirishima
Sero: i swear he gave it to me, i didn’t steal it or anything
Three dots. Disappeared. Reappeared.
Uh oh.
Of course it was Kirishima.
I pinched the bridge of my nose.
Sero Hanta
Y/n: You don’t just give out people’s numbers.
Y/n: Especially without asking.
I could already feel the headache forming. Hero Course boys were either cocky, clueless, or worse, thought Support Course students existed to fix their mistakes.
Mineta had ruined expectations permanently.
Sero Hanta
Sero Hanta: yeah, you’re right
Sero Hanta: i messed up, i’m sorry
Sero Hanta: i wouldn’t have texted if i didn’t actually need help
That made me pause.
I leaned forward on my bed, suddenly way more serious than I meant to be.
Y/n
Sero: my capture tape keeps shredding where it connects to my gauntlets
Sero: aizawa keeps telling me to “figure it out”
Sero: kirishima said you’re the best with flexible materials
No jokes. No emojis. Just facts.
I waited.
I reread the messages.
Hero costume. Capture tape. Structural failure.
Unfortunately for me… that was actually interesting.
Sero Hanta
Y/n: That’s a design flaw, not a maintenance issue.
Y/n: Who built it?
Sero Hanta : outsourced company. cheap material.
I scoffed.
Y/n: Figures.
I hesitated, thumb hovering over the screen. Helping him meant meeting him. Talking. Possibly dealing with hero ego nonsense.
But if I didn’t help, someone else would—and probably do it wrong.
Y/n: I can look at it.
Y/n: Once.
Y/n: This is not an open invitation to text me about random stuff.
I actually laughed out loud.
She was sharp. Direct. Boundaries set like concrete walls.
And somehow that made me want to respect them more.
Y/n
Sero: got it
Sero: strictly professional
Sero: i can meet you in the support labs after classes?
Another pause.
I narrowed my eyes at my phone like it could see me.
Sero Hanta
Y/n: Tomorrow.
Y/n: After five.
Y/n: And if this turns into anything weird, I’m leaving.
I didn’t care if he was a pro-hero-in-training. I’d walked away from worse.
Y/n
Sero: fair
Sero: thanks, y/n
Sero: seriously
I set my phone down, heart doing something stupid in my chest.
Cheesy? Maybe.
Smitten? Definitely.
But this wasn’t a game.
If I was going to pursue her even a little.
I locked my phone and leaned back in my chair, exhaling slowly.
Great.
Hero Course boys were officially invading my life.
Still…
He apologized. Took it seriously. Didn’t push.
That was… new.
I shook my head and went back to my work.
Just help with the costume.
Nothing else.
Right?

five peas in a pod
mina- is it js me or is it the perfect weather and day for the beach
kami- we should definitely go to the beach
ochako- YESS THATS SOUNDS FUNNN
sero-count me in
kiri- that sounds like a plan but is it okay if i invite bakugou??
y/n- yea that’s fine i was planning on inviting jirou anyway
y/n- she hasn’t hung out with us in the longest
I text jirou and she immediately said yes, after that i get up and go to my closet to find clothes for training with bakugou and hopefully not due before i get the pleasure of enjoying the beach today.
I head out of my dorm, putting my hands in my pockets preparing for the slight chill of the morning air.
I catch a glimpse of bakugou today in grey sweats with no hoodie just a white shirt stretching. Has he always had such a broad back? I quickly snap out of my thoughts once i hear him speak.
“You just gonna keep staring or are we going to train?” He says with his back still facing towards me. There’s that snarky guy i know, i can’t believe i was thinking about his body.
“Try not burn me or almost break my arm this time.” He snickers and i think i catch him slightly look down at the bandages covering my arms.
“No promises.” As small sparks ignite from his hands.
This is going to be a long training session.
Luckily I came out with no injuries and no need to visit recovery girl. I get a whiff of a bit of a caramelly vanilla scent, i can’t put my finger on what it is so i ignore it. I start getting up from my sitting position dusting off my pants, i look up to see bakugou rolling his neck, eyes closed and sweat glistening on him.
My mouth gapes a bit before i could even stop myself. “You have a big staring problem you know that?” he says with his eyes still closed. “W-What? i wasn’t even looking at you big ego much.” i say turning away with flushed cheeks.
“Oh please i could feel your eyes burning into my body. Take a picture it’ll last longer.” Now looking at me with that same smug expression he gives everyone. I roll my eyes but i feel vulnerable under his gaze there’s a glint of something in his eyes but i can’t put my finger on it.
“Whatever, are you going to the beach with everyone? well not really everyone but you know what i mean.” I say shaking off the feeling of being flushed by the bakugou katsuki.
“Yea i guess i’ll go but only because shitty hair will be there and he’s the only tolerable person going.” Oh wow rude. I nod my head and turn to head back into the building. “We’ll be leaving soon so i suggest you go shower up, you’re quite sweaty.” Stopping in my tracks to turn back to him. He smirks at me. “You’re really paying attention to my body huh.” He says to me in a snarky, cocky tone as if he’s mocking me.
I just turn around and keep walking this is just the typical bakugou everyone knows so it doesn’t bother me.
We all finally get to the beach immediately putting down our towels and going into the ocean. I stay back since i still have bandages on and i can’t take them off until tomorrow and i have to keep them from getting wet so i just set up the towels and the umbrella to give us shade.
I take off my cover up shirt to feel the ocean breeze laying down finally having some time to rest while hearing my friends having the time of their lives splashing each other.
I put my arm over my eyes and bask in the sun.
I see y/n resting with the stuff we had brought to the beach, i catch a glimpse of black ink on her stomach. I feel a splash from my right seeing dunce face laughing at my shocked face. This punk. I splash him back with more force, making more water than needed hitting him square in the face.
“You guys irritate me, i’m leaving.” I say, walking toward shore with water dripping off me, but my eyes never leave her.
I drag a hand through my wet hair as i walk.
The second i’m close enough, I notice it again.
Black ink curling just above her hip, delicate lines peeking out when the wind lifts her cover up. It’s subtle, almost shy, like it doesn’t want to be seen unless someone’s actually looking.
I walk over to my towel near hers, sitting down.
“What’s that?” I ask, jerking my chin toward her stomach instead of actually pointing. My tone slightly rough, like a challenge.
She lifts her head, following my gaze, then blinks. “Oh. That?”
She sits up a little, one hand absently tugging the fabric up, not hiding it just acknowledging it. “It’s henna.”
“Henna?”
That’s not the answer I expected.
“Yeah,” she says, like it’s no big deal. “Temporary. It fades in a couple weeks.”
Temporary.
The word sits weird in my chest.
“Thought it was a tattoo,” I mutter. Feeling weird now knowing i was wrong.
She smiles, small and amused. “I do have tattoos though.”
That makes me stiffen.
“You do?” My eyes snap back to her before I could stop myself.
“Mhm.” She nods, completely casual. “Just not ones i usually show.”
I click my tongue, looking away. Of course she does. Of course there’s more I haven’t seen. I just don’t know why i’m intrigued.
“Why hide ‘em then?”
She shrugs. “They’re personal.”
That’s it. That’s all she says.
Personal.
I quiet for a moment, thinking about what other tattoos she could have. I tell myself it’s stupid to think so deeply about her tattoos. People get tattoos all the time. Extras, pros, villains, who cares?
But I do, just hers.
Not enough to admit it. Not enough to ask where or what or why. Just enough to feel this tight, unfamiliar pull in my chest.
“Henna’s stupid, just get a tattoo at that point” i finally mutter.
She snorts. “Wow. Harsh.”
“Just sayin’,” I grumble. Then, after a beat, “did getting that hurt?”
The question slips out before I could stop it.
She blinks at me, surprised I would ask, then her gaze softens. “Not at all. It’s kinda relaxing, actually.”
I hum low in my throat. My eyes flick back to her stomach for half a second before I force them to look away again.
Annoying.
I turn to look back at the group, then look back at her.
“You gonna keep that covered the whole time?” I ask.
She peeks at me through her fingers. “Why? Does seeing me exposed make you nervous?”
I scowl. “Don’t get cocky.”
She chuckles, soft and airy. I look away feeling my ears warm up, hoping she didn’t see it as she lied back down.
I tell myself it’s nothing.
Just an extra like the others.
Still, when I close my eyes, all I can see are those black lines against her sun kissed skin, and all I can think about is how much there is i still don’t know about her and want to know.
And for some reason, I don’t hate the fact I do.

part one | part two | part three | part four
You were sitting in class daydreaming since it was almost break considering exams were over. You weren’t all that into what Aizawa was saying either until you heard your name being called out by him.
“…and Y/n will be grouped as training partners, from today on all of your pairs will be training with each other to ensure that you can work with other quirks even if they’re not compatible with your own.”
You didn’t know who you were partnered with until Mina tapped you on your shoulder with a concerned look on her face.
“Good luck with bakugou I heard that he’s pretty rough to train with, i’m so glad i wasn’t paired up with him.”
That made your heart drop. “Bakugou? As in the guy who screams at and blows up anything and anyone he doesn’t like?” Mina nods her head sullenly but gives you a reassuring smile.
This helped calm you a bit while you think of how you were going got survive the explosive man. Your quirks weren’t compatible one bit, it’s like saying fire and ice are best friends. You look down running your hands in your hair and slightly look over to bakugou’s desk just to see him sleeping with no care in the world.
‘How can he rest so peacefully when i feel like i just got sentenced to my doom?’
You blow down just talking your chances. “Mina do you have bakugou’s number? i don’t really feel like asking him at the moment.” Turning to look at your pinky friend.
“Oh yeah of course let me just give it to you right now.” She pulls out her phone and scrolls through it. You watch her as you rest your chin on the back of your chair wondering if bakugou was as bad as everyone thought or if the were exaggerating, hopefully exaggerating.
“Here you go! Be careful how you text him he may just not care and block you, and trust me it’s happened even to me before.” She says turning her glittery hot pink phone at you. You see his contact as ‘Boom Boom Boy’ and chuckled. Mina always had a way with words.
“Thanks Mimi i really appreciate this.” Grabbing your phone out of your pocket and putting in his number. At least it’s one step to talking to the raging blonde. “Of course Y/n anytime let me know if you need anything else i’ll always be there!” Mina cheerful as always smiled a toothy grin. Just as you finished typing in the contact name the bell rang meaning you were going to actually have to text him to train.
I paced my room, biting my nails, trying to figure out if i should go the basic approach or i should go a friendly approach. God why does he have to be such a difficult person? I pick up my phone once again, looking at the illuminating screen. You know what i’ll just go the basic route if he blocks me, he blocks me i’ll just aizawa for a new training partner.
bakugou??
y/n- is this bakugou?
I wait a few minutes for him to answer getting anxious to see if my currently messages would turn green.
bakugou??-yea who’s this.
Woah okay assertive and sassy much.
bakugou
y/n-oh it’s y/n your training partner aizawa grouped us tgt!
I wait for a reply hoping i get one back just to see he just liked my message and that was it. Huh, okay that wasn’t as i bad i thought it would go. I place my phone on my nightstand and slip in bed considering it was late at night and i had been pacing for a half hour. Shutting off my lights and snuggling into my blanket i quickly drift off to dreamland.
Waking up i rub the sleep out of my eyes seeing my screen illuminating with a message on it. I squint trying to see who it’s from.
bakugou
bakugou- be at training grounds in 6.
Now that really woke me up. I sit up and check the time, 4:30 am. Why the hell is he waking up at 4 in the morning to train?! And why is he dragging me into it.
y/n-WHAT THE HELL??
y/n-ITS LITERALLY FOUR IN THE MORNING??
bakugou- unless you want to fail i suggest you start heading to the training grounds.
bakugou-make me wait and i’ll leave.
y/n- ok ok! fine i’m coming.
I shut off my phone and groan, i still had at least two hours of sleep left in me. I slide off my bed nonetheless because i care about my grade too much. I throw something warm since it’s getting colder but not heavy so it doesn’t drag me down and fixed my disheveled hair. I make my way to the training grounds still pretty half asleep, i think you might even say i look like i’m sleeping standing up.
I see him in a black hoodie and sweats on his phone leaning against one of the buildings. He hears my footsteps as i approach and looks up.
“Took you long enough.” He’s acting like i willingly wanted to wake up at the crack of dawn just to train.
“I took a fine amount of time, let’s get started?” I didn’t mean to sound rude but how would you feel if someone woke you up at 4 am. On the weekend. Not too good either.
He nods and takes off his hoodie to reveal a black undershirt. Guess he really likes black. I take off anything that would make me overheated or restrict me during the process.
“Hope you’re not a waste of time and can keep up.” he says with a hint of mockery.
The smell of anesthetics fills your nose. You blacked out in the middle of training only remembering bakugou pinning you down with hot hands and you struggling to get him off you. He’s a tough opponent, he treated you as if you were a villain. You slowly stir awake feeling a slight headache hit you and as you try to push your self up in a sitting position you feel a pang of pain in your wrists. Looking down seeing both hands bandaged and probably had burn ointment on it. One arm was wrapped all the way to my shoulder slightly remembering the position he had you in.
You go to grab your phone that’s sitting on the table next to the nurse bed. Taking a picture of your wrapped hands to post and captioned it ‘p.s. don’t train with bakugou.’
Slowly you started to get worried texts from your close friends but one stood out in particular.
bakugou
bakugou- it’s not my fault you’re weak.
‘The absolute audacity of this man.’ You roll your eyes at this message.
y/n- you burned me and twisted my arm in ways i didn’t know it could be twisted.
bakugou- whatever js means u need to get better.
bakugou- ur slow.
y/n- can you save that for when i’m not sitting in the nurse with bandages on me?
bakugou- toughen up. tmrw same time.
y/n- no way! your crazy i need to get better!
bakugou- you’ll be fine.
You shut off your phone and throw your head back. You may think this guy will be the death of you.
Yayy first part finished! Do you guys like third pov or first person more?? I’ve already started working on part two so lmk. This is also not proofread so if there is some mistakes i’ll fix them later on. I hope you enjoyed!
