trying to figure out who i am or who i’m supposed to be. feel good about where i stand, so i can make the most of me. i’m coming back down from space a million miles away. there’s love in this place, and i’m just trying to say!! i’m good; living life just like i should, and i wouldn’t change it if i could.

“Don’t go home after, just crash at my place after like a normal person,” Poppy replied bossily. They were both way ahead of themselves. “Anyway, what’s new with you? How’s the band, how’s life, how’s hot Sebastian?”

“love when people take charge and make decisions for me, my brain can take a break,” nico said, trying his best to play it cool. “please don’t call him hot sebastian, he’s too emo to have earned that name. he’s sad seb, not hot seb. but the band is cool. we’re still like writing our little songs, rehearsing until my toes go numb, yadda yadda yadda. what’s up with you? still girlbossing it through school and life?”

When Juniper hurt, Sebastian hurt, but he could understand if she wanted to forget it all for a while. So he set it all aside – forget the distance, forget the fact she was leaving as soon as she’d come, forget his sister, forget the freaking army of Condor – and pressed a kiss to her forehead, then followed her inside. He sat down next to her and set a hand on her knee. “Well, I mean, things are pretty damn good now that I’ve got my girl back at home. The band’s good, keeping busy. I think we’re gonna finish the album soon, and the label’s been talking about a tour, don’t know if we’re gonna be opening for someone or what.”

juniper always felt like she had a fever when she was around sebastian, especially when they were able to be so close to each other without any distractions. goodness, she felt dizzy! “oh my god, the album’s gonna be done soon?! that’s so exciting! i’m gonna buy everything that you guys release -- vinyl, posters, merch -- everything.” she beamed at him with a wide smile before slipping in an innocent little question. “are any of the songs about me?”

Her frustration swelled with each word he spoke. “Of course, I know how to laugh,” she snapped. “Have you considered that I don’t laugh at anything you say because you aren’t nearly as funny or ‘charming’ –”  Air quotes showed what she truly meant– “As you think you are? That it’s not funny to me that you can’t think of anyone but yourself for even half a second?”

tripti’s words probably should have hurt saxon’s feelings. it would have hurt any normal person’s feelings, but saxon was so used to being perceived as a clown that he was pretty comfortable with it. “just because i say things out loud doesn’t mean that’s all i’m thinking about. duh, are you psychic, tripti? can you read my mind? i don’t think so!” boom, got her. “just admit that you don’t have a funny bone.”

zach chuckled his charming little laugh. “you know, dude,” his voice lowered to a conspiratorial, yet loud whisper. “the strip club?”

“the-- the strip club?!” nico was aghast.

She stared Soledad down, unimpressed. “I know who you are.” With a sigh, she rose smoothly from her seat and stood to s- s- serve them. “To make a proper recommendation, I would need to know the occasion for the flowers. And I need you to know that I’m not your babe.”

a sly smile quickly grew across soledad’s face. they leaned against the counter -- picture one of those guys from grease trying to be slick and hit on the waitress behind the counter at the diner - and puffed up their chest a little. “well, tell me what kind of occasion you’d like to celebrate with me and then we can pick whatever you’d like.”

Maya’s model strut came to an abrupt stop, and she whipped around with a, “Okay, that’s good, thanks!” She hurried back to the stranger’s side, taking back her phone to watch the clip before anything else. “Oh my god, it’s perfect, you’re amazing. Can I, like, buy you a drink or something? I have points at this one place right around the corner from here, and my flight doesn’t leave for another three hours.”

“oh my gosh! i would LOVE to get a drink. my flight got delayed because of some stupid storm so i was just gonna take a nap or something. this is so fate-y that we both have later flights.” tristin clapped their hands together before scurrying to grab their luggage.

Taeng let out a delighted cry when the bartender started to fix the shot of milk. “They do serve milk here! The stars have aligned!” she cried out with a clap of her hands. “Please don’t take this the wrong way, I’d order one to, but I’m dreadfully lactose intolerant. I’ll do a shot of tequila in solidarity though.” And soon enough the bartender delivered both of their shots, and all that was left was to…drink. Taeng giddily held her glass up to Rena. “Cheers!”

if rena wasn’t so determined to make this date successful, she would have lost her composure. in fact, she did lose it just a little when she took the damn shot of milk. disgusting. with a shiver down her spine, rena slammed the glass onto the bar with a smile so forced it could have gotten stuck that way. “that was... delightful. how was your tequila? generally moo-less?”

Fiona shot a pointed glance between Vera and their doorperson, a mere plebian. “I can’t believe you still remember that old nickname. It’s been so long since you called me that,” they forced out a musical laugh. “It’s been so long since I’ve seen you too, I didn’t even think you would want to come party with little old me. But I’ll tell you what, just promise to bring a friend next time, and I’ll let you in tonight, and waive your cover fee.”

vera blinked a couple of times, completely unaware of what nickname fiona was talking about. luckily (give her a break, her brain is a little slow and that’s okay!), she caught herself before she voiced her confusion. “oh duh! your nickname, yeah. dionysus is such a loooong nickname, you would think that we’d use shorter names, right?” vera really just talked to talk. she flitted her hands at the looming bodyguard so she could slide into the entry. “i think you should always waive my cover fee because we go wayyyyy back.”

“It’s cute how hard you’re trying to pretend like you don’t care about me,” Christian said back, but he couldn’t pull off his usual carefree, teasing tone when he was so clearly annoyed that Noelle had his skateboard. “Seriously, fuck off.” He managed to grab one end of his skateboard and gave it a strong tug, but Noelle was freakishly strong. Rashly, he sprung for her clipboard and snatched it off the ground. “What is this? A petition?”

“i’m not pretending, pepto bismol clown,” noelle snapped back, her eyes widening in horror when christian picked up her clipboard. as if he needed any more ammo to irritate her. “yes, it’s a petition, but i doubt you’ll actually care so give that back!” she waved his skateboard around like an old lady waving her cane around.

“We can just steal one of their cars. No way they’d ever find out,” Knox dreamed unrealistically. He took a deep breath before bravely sitting up. “You almost ready? I’ll give you a piggyback ride,” he said with a grin.

“i’m like 86% positive that they wouldn’t notice because they’re dumber than us,” oscar said with the confidence of an unqualified white man in a ceo position. he sat up with knox and nodded vigorously. “onward and forward, my noble steed!”

“Good thing I’m not chasing you,” Sami mused with a haughty raise of his brow. “Though most people would probably extend a little more respect to their prince.” He held up his thumb and forefinger, the two pinched close together but not touching. “Just a teensy weensy bit more.”

devin scoffed and rolled her eyes. “could have fooled me,” she asserted, her nose wrinkling at the thought of the prince actually chasing her. nasty! she jutted her chin out toward the prince in defiance, fighting the temptation to swat at his fingers. she may not respect him, but she wasn’t going to get fined or yoinked for touching the guy. “respect is earned, and you’re not even close to getting that done.” a sudden bang on the door made devin jump, ruining her little tough act. but if a wild mob person burst in, things were going to go south for her -- and fast.

The mention of advisors clammed Celestina up. A moment like this, without any advisors or ladies or tutors, was a rare privilege, but was she truly free from their watchful eye? Suddenly, the weight of potentially prying eyes or ears bore heavy on Celestina. She rose to her feet. Rather than answer his question, she posed, “I need some fresh air. Prince Jeremy, would you care to accompany me on a promenade?”

catching on quickly, jeremy nodded gently as he also rose to his feet. “i would love to accompany you, your highness.” he offered celestina his arm, and the two started to walk out of the atrium. the fresh air offered a relief from the tension from sitting hear the conference hall. “does the fresh air feel better? i thought i would wither away in there. this was a fantastic idea.”

The door person called Fiona over. Apparently someone who wasn’t on the list wanted to get in. They loved turning people away! The rejection died on their tongue, though, when they saw who it was. She let out a laugh. “Oh, hello there. Trying to enjoy a night at Dionysus, huh?” They’d named their night club after themself, naturally.

“you named a club after yourself, that’s so fun!” vera exclaimed, her eyes reflecting the lights of the club. she was on her tippy toes, despite her human form already so tall. the bouncer was huge! how annoying. “i wanted to check it out myself. i thought that i was famous enough to just flit on in, but this galoot has gotten in my way,” she pouted.

The demure smile over her shoulder immediately faltered when Aphro– when Esme recognizes her fellow deity. It was the first time she’d seen them in her human life, but that energy could transcend anything, anywhere. “I’m on the clock. Can’t this wait?” What a greeting.

soledad smiled and presented themself with a gesture of jazz hands. “uhh hello? it’s me! apollo!” they covered their mouth quickly with a giggle, pretending to hush themself after saying their real name. they didn’t really know what they wanted at esme’s flower shop, but something about the flowers just attracted them today. “what... bouquet do you recommend today, babe?”

From Elated to Crestfallen: the Epic Rise and Fall of Taeng’s Facial Features. That would be the title if someone wrote a book about Taeng’s face after Rena confirmed, then qualified, her love of milk. “I suppose you’re right, though if you really want a glass we could probably ask,” Taeng’s voice trailed off absentmindedly as she fell deep in thought. Her face wrinkled together as she pondered, yet again, Rena’s choice drink. A fun drink for a fun girl to have at the bar… “A mojito?” she tried.

how far was rena willing to go so this date would be a success in her book? she watched taeng’s emotions like a book, she would be absolutely awful at poker. rena let out a nervous laugh, waving over the bartender. “ehm... you know what, taeng? you’re actually sooo right about the mojito, but... i think the milk thing has to be destiny. so let me try.” there’s no way the bar would have MILK on hand. she asked the bartender for a shot of milk, earning her a strange look. that gave rena hope, but that hope crashed and burned when the bartender nodded their head and pulled out a shot glass with no argument. fuck.

“Seriously?” Maya asked, stepping forward to take her phone from the stranger’s hand. Sure enough, it was a one second clip, from a very unflattering angle, she might add. With a sigh, Maya deleted the clip and passed the phone back to them – making sure she selected the right camera. “Okay, you just have to press the red button when I say go.” She started walking away, calling over her shoulder, “Now!”

“okay now!” tristin echoed, pressing record and watching the stranger do their little walk. their face flushed when they really paid attention to how pretty the stranger was. she let out a little cheer as the recording went on. “you look really good! wow!”

“No, it’s okay, you’re not being a bi–” Max’s voice trailed off on the word. Instead, he busied himself carrying out the task Izzy assigned, checking out all the bottles until he could confidently extract just the one she asked. His smile turned wide, customer service-esque as he passed it back to her. “There you go! Hope it helps you feel better.”

“you don’t have to lie,” izzy muttered, her eyes fluttering open and closed. she swayed a bit as she reached for the bottle. “thanks for helping though. i really appreciate it, pyramid boy.” as she finished her thanks, izzy swayed a bit more before stumbling and falling onto the floor. “whoa--”
