Still thinking about how Grace was always treated as disposable. Kicked out of his passion field for his bluntness—underpaid as a (very good) teacher, to the point he can’t afford a car—left alone in a room full of argon with a sample that might kill him, while all the indispensable guys who put him there stood on the other side of the glass and watched. Shoved screaming into a mission that would kill him. And then, then this bonkers little alien who just met him gladly trades years off his life (via extended return mission) to save him. Runs burning through deadly air to keep him from dying. Chooses finally to weave their lives together forever and recreate Grace’s best dreams of Earth to make him happy. No wonder Grace told Rocky he doesn’t have to get him a gift, he’s given him everything. To one little spider guy, Grace is irreplaceable. That’s love.

One thing im appreciating about these scenes is how many details that were difficult to see in the movie become clear. like for example rocky's claw movement, or Grace's outfits, or Armando's movement. this is great for art and writing

You’ve heard of “you don’t even have a dog” and now for the Marissa fans out there might I suggest people saying to her post-launch:

“You weren’t even together.”

Marissa being legitimately heartbroken and everyone seeing her grieving and unless they happen to know both her and Ryland the FIRST thing they ask is almost always “Were the two of you an item?”

And when she says no then it becomes “did you want to be?” “did you see him as a brother instead?”

Marissa feeling hurt and frustrated because isn’t it enough that they were friends? Is twenty years of late night conversations, inside jokes, tears, laughter, Thursday dinners like clockwork—is that not enough to say she loved him, plain and simple? Is she not allowed to grieve this way, like a piece of her was torn out without anyone even telling her?

But star-crossed love isn’t for friends, they say. It just doesn’t make a good story.

we know gender is socially constructed on earth and being nonbinary or gender nonconforming is like a big deal for some reason. imagine grace trying to explain to eridians why he calls rocky “he” and literally everyone else “they”. Grace unintentionally introduces gender to erid and now we’ve got eridians wanting to identify as trans-binary (as boys or girls) and old school boomer eridians are like “there’s only ONE biological sex you LIBS”
