(this is gonna be the one where I lose followers and where people hate me but w/e opinions time here I go -----

I don’t get why cisswaps (genderbends) are considered transphobic.

I get why the term genderbend is considered as such, as I finally found an explanation for it a while ago and it made some sense to me, and so that doesn’t really confound me as much anymore.

But the concept? Calling them cisswaps? I don’t get it. I guess it’s because I see them as AUs, to where the canon version of the character never would have existed in the first place. 

I’ve seen the argument to “just make them trans” a few times, but? I don’t really like it. Some people aren’t comfortable with rping something they don’t feel they can do justice to, or completely wrap their head around and understand. For me personally, I try to get in my character’s head, and it’s harder when I’m forced into boxes like that. 

And, honestly? The idea of messing said character up would be terrifying. In the Persona fandom alone, I look at Naoto’s on both sides of the Debate and I know that they deal with getting shat on all the time for how they choose to play the character -- and it fucking sucks. 

I don’t know -- the idea of saying “just do this” and forcing someone into something they don’t want to do is kind of toxic to me. And if your response is “just don’t play that character like that,” then? I don’t really know what to say. I’m a little against putting down creative juices like that. 

Most people will probably find my opinion on this invalid anyway, since I’m not part of the community, but. #unpoplar opinion I guess)
