More Cassian Andor Going Postal AU!

I was feeling inspired by the positive response on the previous post and now I have 4 sketches and an 800 word plot outline in my wip folder. This is for all you Guy In A Situation enjoyers

Cassian’s outfit is based on his journalist costume from when he rescued Mon Mothma. Vel and Cinta’s outfits are a mishmash between rebel alliance attire and ankh morpork watch uniforms.

Cassian laughed.

It couldn't be that it did not hurt, when K-2 hit him. His whole head knocked upwards, rocking him onto his toes for a moment. As quick as it was, K-2 had ample time to predict the amount of force necessary to get a reaction but not do serious or even moderate damage. He just didn't accurately anticipate the type of reaction. Cassian hides it behind a glove, but he doesn't hide it from his face the way he should, and the expulsion of air from his lungs is forty percent shock, ten percent pain, and fifty percent mirth.  He hides it from the trooper behind his glove, but he doesn't hide it from K-2.  He looks up at K-2SO with the smallest, strangest smile on his face.

I think the reason why I love Cassian's dynamic with Kay so much lies in the fact that they both have been alienated from their humanity and yet they clearly identify the remnants of it in the other.

Cassian has been a child soldier, molded by war and out of sadness and kindness for anything that exists outside the rebellion and Draven's orders. He is a living weapon because he made himself such.

Kay is a living weapon because they made him that way. He still craves violence. He gets bored easily and clearly enjoys harming others... He sees Cassian cry and offers to wipe his own memory to spare him from the rawness of vulnerability.

They're both unclean and obscene and they don't care. They're together. They know each other deeply. Intimately. They're more than a weapon, even if just for a second, when working together

I think Cassian is deeply and profoundly terrified of Kay being reprogrammed/hijacked by the imperials because he knows the alliance cannot and would not spend the necessary resources to try and get him back specifically. A droid of his class going missing once is something, but if twice would be the start of a dangerous pattern.

Kay doesn't care because just like Cassian he has his own methods of suicide, and he obviously would take that route. Seriously does Cassian think he's an idiot?

However, Cassian is never reassured by this. He's highstrung and 10% more abrasive than usual in missions that present this risk. It's clearly something that stresses him greatly.

Eventually, Kay is forced to reckon with the fact that Cassian simply doesn't want to lose him. He's a pain in the ass, because this contradicts nearly all the data sets he has of Cassian, but the man has always been a pain in the ass so it's fine. He can just reassure him by annoying him after missions, or by pressing him against his chassis; which doesn't even make him flinch.

Humans are so bizarre.
