Info: today, on August 7 marks 14 years since Russia started war with Georgia
On August 7 of 2008, Russian tanks moved towards Georgian borders. As a preemptive act, on August 8, then Georgian president Saakashvili opened fire to block Roki tunnel, the main way through which Russians were able to cross the border. Since then, Russia has claimed that war started on August 8 and not 7 which discredits Georgia's right to defend itself.
On August 9 of 2008, Russia bombed one of the biggest Georgian cities - Gori, devastating the area and killing innocent civilians (the photos are from Gori)
Russia took some Georgian villages during that war, which are still occupied to this day.

I've seen so many people here on tumblr trying to silence and whitewash this horrible tragedy as simple "out of nowhere queerphobia" when this is an Islamist terrorist attack. This is a result of Islamism which calls for killing queer people. This is not a single accident. It happens all the time in Muslim countries and now it will start to happen in western countries too if they are allowed to continue. The biggest threat to LGBT and women's rights is Islamism and the sharia law they want to impose. We need to wake up to the fact Islamism is the new far right here. Our local western neo-Nazis are nowhere near as organised and aggressive as these guys. Calling this crime as it is: and islamist terrorist attack is not "islamophobia". The only sane reaction to terror like this is resistance to the ideology that causes it.

It's because they cannot allow themselves to believe that anyone that high up on the Progressive Stack could ever actually be an Oppressor Class or that Muslims actually believe things that are so antithetical to progressive values. In the leftist mind, believing those things would be Racist and make the person who believed those things a Nazi, and Being A Racist Nazi is the absolute worst thing anyone can do.

ok yes the misplaced nostalgic yearning for a mythical past is clearly a reactionary position, but simply flipping the valences and replying that Everything Back Then Was Worse Actually is just as superficial an engagement with history
the presumption of progress over time misleads with respect to the vast amount of variation in the historical record & it also serves to present whatever is the current arrangement as the apotheosis of human advancement... these are not value-neutral claims
people who follow progressive movements have sometimes really hard time understanding that progress is not necessary good. Progress doesn't automatically mean "more human rights" or "less wars". We have been pushed to think the very word means something positive by default. But progressivism is simply about changing the goal post forever. The queer activists of the 20's would have been right against gay marriage bc they viewed marriage as an oppressive heteronormative institution. Right now we, who were/are rallying for gay marriage, are usually opposed to people marrying AI's or animals. what we don't like to admit is that we will be the future bigots bc progressivism never stops, it literally can't by design. So my fellow millennials and zoomers, we will be called conservatives if we talk against marrying AI girl friends or donkeys in the future, we will be the ones to be cancelled. I hope you guys are prepared for that bc I for one, feel just crazy thinking about it. And no, there's no "common sense" that stops these things from happening. That kind of talk is will be the proof that you are a conservative bigot wine aunt of the future.
