The Importance of Beauty
I, for the longest time, thought that makeup was for the vain. I thought it was for people who either had no self esteem and wanted to “fix” things they perceived as wrong with their appearance, or that makeup was used to cover up flaws, often baldy, with some sort of putty. I had a low opinion of it. Now I’m a VIB Rouge at Sephora, and I’m addicted to high end makeup. I don’t bother with my hair, clothes, or basically anything else. All of my “me” money goes to replenishing my skin care and makeup supplies. I never thought that would happen. How it happened is sort of an odd story. I had low self esteem. I had suffered a trauma which made me feel so undesirable that I basically stopped trying to be beautiful. I felt so dejected and unappealing that I stopped bathing frequently, or shaving, which just made me feel worse. One night, I was going out with a friend to try to cheer me up, and they suggested I use a little blush. Their application of it was much different than I had seen before, and the result changed my face entirely. They smiled and clicked the palette shut, and I stared, baffled, at the mirror. It’s not like I felt like the most beautiful woman alive after that, but I thought I looked much better, and it had me wondering. Slowly, I started to explore into eye shadows, then mascara and liners, and eventually lipsticks, foundations, and eventually skin care and BBCreams. (BBCreams are one of my favorite things in the world, by the way, I will write an article about them later.) Eventually, I started to really enjoy it. The bright side of my day became my morning application of make up. I could express how I felt on my face. I’ve explored with tons of looks and colors, and settled on looks that I love, looks that I can recreate quickly, and signature looks that I think people would recognize me in. Now, I’m rarely seen in public without my makeup. It’s not why you may think though. Besides being appropriate and respectful of my surroundings, I don’t really give a fuck what other people have to say or think about my appearance. I love black lip stick, dramatic winged eyeliner, and outrageous color combinations. I love to spend tons of time making a great look, whether I’m going somewhere important, or just running to the local shops. I have no desire to impress anyone in particular, it’s just a way that I express myself, and it’s fun for me. It’s a way I can take care of myself that I enjoy. Additionally, I get the benefits of people thinking I look more put together, usually, and more formal. I enjoy it, and I feel it helps me in my personal and professional life. Some women get their hair cut, some women get their nails done, I do my makeup. But why do I feel it is so important? It lets me show off who I am, and it’s subtle enough that I can do it without dressing outlandishly, or offending almost any dress code. Besides, can you think of a way to show yourself love as a woman better than gently stroking beautiful colors onto your face with sable fur brushes and soft sponges? Treating your skin with lovely lotions to condition and improve your complexion and your beauty? I hope you will stick with us, we are a new blog basically. I will cover item reviews, how-to’s, answer questions, and write articles on everything I can think of. We cover mostly mid to high end makeup and skin care, because you get more out of it. (Yes, there will be an article on that as well later) Please feel free to ask questions using the ask feature any time. Thank you for reading, and sticking with us! I hope to be able to reach many people out there, and teach them about the importance of beauty and self care.
We are coming back to life! I'm sorry for our long time off.
Can anyone help us with the website? We would like to link our Pintrest to this and perhaps a Facebook page! Thank you!
#5 The Nose
Anime girls contour their noses with dark eye shadow. A slim, shaped nose is one of the keys to making your face look painted on. It can be the difference between a jaw-dropping anime look and a so-so one. Choose a shade of brown eye shadow (at least two shades darker than...
THE TIP-OFF: STANDOUT EYES WITH REFINERY29
Refinery29 Beauty Director Annie Tomlin on where to wear the White Shimmer 1 eye look, created here by SEPHORA PRO Artist Gilbert Soliz.
“This look takes neutrals out of been-there-done-that territory, thanks to the contouring of the shadow. The application technique creates drama, and the shimmer creates dimension. It shows that you care about looking polished, but it doesn’t try too hard.”
Annie Tomlin, Refinery29 Beauty Director

I have found an unlikely holy grail it seems. Normally my undertones are very odd and hard to match. I'm a super mutt, which gives me strange combination undertones of yellow and blue, which you wouldn't expect from someone so very pale as me. There is very little pink naturally in my skin it seems. Bit odd. Made finding a foundation a terror. I used Nars in Gobi for a while, but found it a bit too yellow it'self, it brought out more yellow in my skin and made it a little jaundice-y (not a good quality...) so I skipped that. Plus it's expensive! Eventually I found Dr. Jart's BB cream, which is BEYOND amazing! It is my holy grail of all foundation/primer/treatment/sunscreen/everything products. I even started using it to prime for eye shadow and eye makeup, but I'll save that for another post. Anyway, basically, each formula has a slightly different shade, I find the "Premium" looks best on me. It gives me a very nice even tone and a healthy glow.
However, on a whim and due to my love of Anna Sui, I decided to try something I had read many reviews about online, this "classic" product, this "staple" of "every makeup artist" or so articles claimed. Anna Sui's surprisingly colored loose setting powder. A light violet hue with a slight shimmer to it. Purple face powder? That's for teenagers and Goth's! right? That's what I thought at least.
I read countless reviews about how it did wonders for people with deep dark purple/blue circles under the eyes and blue veins that show through under the skin (urgh it's a problem) but namely how it corrected the "yellow" tone of the skin creating a "soft focus" porceline look to the skin. Giving up on everything, because it either made me look orange, or yellow, I decided to try this.
So far I've pretty much fallen completely in love with this product haha. The strange purple color does, in fact, correct the yellow tone of my skin and give it a more neutral/white looking complexion. It gives the soft focus effect of any high quality finishing powder, and with the soft shimmer it helps buff away minor imperfections, especially if you use it on top of a BB cream (like I do) or a primer/foundation combination.
I'm not sure how this would look on people who have more pink tones or other undertones, but for those of us with yellow and/or blue undertones, it is a god send! especially with a small brush to dust under the eyes to set concealer and eyeliner, it's great.
I use the Sephora Kabuki brush and the Urban Decay Buddha Soft Focus Brush to apply it for a nice powdered finish that covers evenly and gets even the hard to reach spots.
Good lucky Ladies and Gents, this stuff may be expensive at nearly $50 US, and no American version of the compact in this shade (shade 200) but it is TOTALLY worth it! As far as I can tell though, there are SOME places that seem to have powder compact refills in this shade, I cannot find the original compact in shade 200, so, if you are like me and want a "to go" version of this great product, you may have to suck it up and either try another shade of compact powder to get the compact and buy a refill, or try to fit one of the refill powder pans in another compact.
Oh and the Anna Sui signature tea rose scent? heavenly.

Totally a MUST for a flawless lip application, or even for just regular maintenance. chunks of dry flakey skin on your lips is NOT attractive! A scrub feels heavenly and keeps lips looking soft, supple and kissably fresh. ^^

Greetings, I am the Kabuki Beauty Empress
Why "Kabuki Beauty Empress" you may ask, I'll tell you. I've always been a fashionista, making my own way, some called it "goth" some called it "punk" but I never defined myself, I like bold. I love Geisha, and fashion from other cultures, and I love to mix and match things that don't belong. I love making bold statements, and I am not the sort of person who shies away or plays it safe.
I wear bold clothes and bold jewelry, and bold make up, I like to make a statement, I like to be looked at. And why not? I'm beautiful, I'm charming, and I love people. ;) I think that is a very healthy way to look at yourself, and at life. Do you feel beautiful? Do you feel like you can "pull it off" no matter what "it" is? If yes, then rock it fellow fashion Diva, I'm glad to meet you! but if not, let me help you get there. Let me help you, because we shouldn't have to feel beautiful for the sake of others, we should feel beautiful for us, ourselves.
Some women say they have to "get a mate" or some BS like that. (or men too, I don't discriminate, it's just easier to chose one pronoun) They feel that if they aren't "done up" they wont be attractive enough for someone to look at you. Well first of all, fuck that. If someone doesn't think you are exciting as a person they aren't worth your time. But, I'm not going into that right now, though that attitude is important. I think there is a small bit of validity in that statement, however it's a bit twisted. When you get dressed, you have the opportunity to make a statement. You are giving people an impression about who you are, they look at you for a second and they get an idea of who you are. I am a bold personality. I like unconventional interesting things, I am interesting, I like to meet other interesting people, so I like to make those bold statements. I think when you look at me and I'm wearing Super T thick stitched True Religion Jeans and a nerdy shirt from a Video Game I love, with my Juicy Couture charm bracelet and my 2 rings I always wear, my heels and my Fox Fur coat, you get a very distinct impression. Then, when you factor in my make up, with the dark smokey eyes and lovely natural lip tones, I love to experiment with colors and different things, especially eyes, you get a very bold look. You get lots of impressions. But one thing I think is pretty apparent. I am the Empress ;)
I chose Kabuki because I love Kabuki theater and the fashion and culture that spread from that. I love Geisha too, often part of the Kabuki theater groups/areas and in their beginnings considered part of the Kabuki class. Kabuki uses a lot of bold expressive make up to convey emotions and create scenes that tell stories without even really needing words. That's what I'm all about here, we are creating a statement about ourselves without using words.
So I don't care who's big in fashion, I don't care about designer this or that, I care about function, appeal, quality, and convention. I wear fur because it is warm and I find it beautiful, not because of any other real reason. I wear True Religion jeans because they fit me very well and I like the style, I also wear combat fatigues a lot, but mostly when I'm not working or when I'm in more casual situations. I chose the items I do because I love them, I find them useful, or because it meets my needs or pleases my aesthetic. I don't care what other people think, and I think everyone should develop a similar mentality. It's not about what everyone else thinks, or about wearing what some famous person wore or what they are telling you is "in" or "cool" now. It's about finding out who you are and making that statement well, clearly, and without it being overbearing.
You don't need to beat people over the head with it. You don't need to be super subtle either. In fact, that's another layer of fashion. How bold or subtle your fashion choices are.
So some of the many things you will find posted here are beauty tips, make up and other product reviews, sales and items I find online that I think are good deals or essentials, warnings against bad products, etc.
I'm glad to take requests. If you have a question, please feel free to ask! I'm glad to make video or photo based how-to's as well.
I was never in to make up until about a year ago, and I'll go into that later in another article, so I'm new coming into this, but I'm very good at it I think, and I've learned a lot. I have a lot to share, and I'm very excited for this new venture.
I've also decided to allow readers to submit posts, so if you have any tips, tricks, reviews, etc. please feel free to submit! Just please include your URL/username so people know who wrote it. :) I don't know why but Tumblr still doesn't seem to have changed that.
