I'm Afraid I Love You
series summary:
Achilles Pelides is a superstar singer whose music is constantly flying off the charts. From hit singles to sold out concerts, the singer has garnered a huge fanbase who watches his every move.Â
When Patroclusâan overworked nurse from a small townâattends Achillesâs concert one night, he is unexpectedly thrust into the singerâs world of fame.
As the two navigate the unique situation they find themselves in, the pair learn more about each other and themselves, and somehow manage to fall in love along the way.
Part 4
Drifting out, drifting through the water Through the sound, swim to me now Long way down, I can feel you fall Hear me now, through the sound Something Wild | Radiator Hospital
pairing: singer!Achilles x Patroclus
Previous Part
Patroclus awoke to the sound of repeated buzzes coming from his phone on the table beside him. Eyes opening blearily, he began to reach for the device to check or at least silence it when an arm draped over him pulled him back, keeping him firmly in place.
Right. He had slept with Achilles last night.
Well, not slept with, Patroclus hurried to correct the implication of the statement in his head. More like⊠fallen asleep with. Not that that carried any less of a suggestive tone.Â
Patroclus turned over carefully so as to not wake the sleeping man.Â
How was it possible that he was beautiful even in sleep? The golden curls of his hair were splayed delicately on the pillow, framing the curves of his face perfectly. He looked so peaceful, and so innocent.
It was hard to believe that the man lying before him was one of the most famous singers of this generation. The way soft breaths fell out of Achillesâs slightly parted lips and his face was so smooth and free of worry made him look almost boyish in nature. Not to mention the fact that he was holding onto Patroclus as if he were a teddy bear from his youth.
Patroclus had half a mind to reach over to trace the manâs face or brush a curl from his forehead, but he managed to stop himself before he did so. He found himself glad that he did, as it was at that moment that Achilles began to stir.Â
The blondeâs eyes opened slowly, adjusting to the light and Patroclusâs face before him.
âGood morning,â Achilles said, voice husky from sleep. He didnât seem at all perturbed by the sight of Patroclus staring right at him as soon as he woke up. Instead, he looked rather pleased, a soft smile creeping onto his face.
Patroclusâs eyes widened a fraction, put off at both the sound of Achillesâs morning voice and the fact that he had been caught watching the singer sleep.Â
âMorning,â he managed to stutter out. He was embarrassed, but couldnât find it in himself to pull away.
There was a beat of silence as the two men watched each other, both of them unable to find the words to say anything else.
Patroclus was spared from the awkwardness as the incessant buzzing of his phone reminded him of why he woke up in the first place.
âI should get that,â he finally said, clearing his throat and sparing a glance at Achillesâs arm which still lay around him.
Achilles looked to where Patroclusâs eyes fell. âRight, of course,â he said, removing his arm immediately and sitting up. âSorry about that. Iâve been told I have a tendency to do that in my sleep.â He chuckled, though the way he brought a hand up to fiddle with his hair betrayed his sheepishness.
âNo worries,â responded Patroclus. Though he briefly wondered how many other people he had done this to. Not that it mattered, of course.Â
Achilles offered him one last smile before excusing himself to get ready for the day and retreating to the bathroom, leaving Patroclus to go through his phone.
Once Patroclus finally turned on his phone, he was shocked at what he saw.
The phone was bombarded with notifications from thousands of follows, likes, comments on his Instagram profile, with the number continuing to rise. His profile had been public, having had so few followers and sporadic life update posts. He shouldâve known that his newfound connection to Achilles would cause people to track him down. Thankfully he had turned his location settings off on everything. It at least prevented hundreds of screaming fans from breaking down the hotel room door just to see their idol.
With a sigh, Patroclus turned his Instagram notifications off and tentatively clicked on the app, deciding to read through some of the comments on his profile against his better judgement.
He first clicked on his most recent post. Uploaded around four months ago, an image Briseis had taken of him at Mount Parnitha National Park had attracted the most attention on the app.Â
Patroclus mentally cringed at the image of him standing in front of the breathtaking scenery. Briseis had told him he looked really attractive in that photo, but now that so many people were scrutinizing it he felt intensely aware of his appearance. He remembered being sweaty from hiking that day and he had forgotten his sunglasses which caused the sun to beat down into his eyes, so he figured his exhaustion was clear despite the smile he managed to put on for the camera.
Bracing himself, he tapped on the comments section of the post and began to read through some of them.
bea7689: are u achillesâs bf??
achillesfanzz01: Ew he looks kinda boring ngl. I think Achilles could do better lmao
lacyyy_281: can this patroclus guy fight lol
pengwin7: Why he kinda⊠đ I get it Achilles.Â
mattieluv: holy shit is THIS his boyfriend? hard pass lol
achillezhoe: wait heâs actually really cute tho awww
dan151: calling it now, heâs just using achilles for fame đ
user6173988: Achilles and Deidameia would make a much better pair. Hope he comes to his senses and ditches whoever tf this is
hannahjones79: @patroclusmenoitiades can you sing too? Are you making a song together?
cinnamon8172: ugh why is achilles dating this rando?? heâs not even attractive lmaooo
Patroclus frowned as he scrolled through the comments. Peoplesâ reactions seemed to be mixed, with many seeming to be confused as to how someone like Achilles ended up with someone like Patroclus. A question that was still flitting through the brunetteâs mind.
They were definitely an odd pairing, and Patroclus felt so dull and unattractive compared to the singer. A sentiment that seemed widely agreed upon across the internet.
âWhatcha looking at?â
Patroclus tore his eyes away from his phone screen upon hearing his fake boyfriendâs voice.
âI was justââ Patroclus trailed off when his eyes landed on Achilles.
The manâs golden blonde hair was slightly damp from the shower, and he wore nothing except for a towel that was wrapped low around his waist. Patroclus couldnât help but lower his eyes to the manâs toned abs and then even lower to the trail of hair under Achillesâs belly button that presumably led toâŠ
âYouâre done in the bathroom right?â Patroclus rushed out once he realized where his train of thought was headed. He didnât wait for a response as he quickly grabbed his things and sped past Achilles into the bathroom, locking the door behind him.
Patroclus mentally slapped himself for inadvertently lusting over the man in the other room. He was insanely attractive, but that was no excuse for him to be ogling at him like that.
Maybe he didnât even notice, Patroclus frantically tried to convince himself.Â
He just needed to calm down and hope that Achilles hadnât caught onto where his eyes were looking. And if he did, then hopefully he wouldnât say anything about it. That would be mortifying.
As Patroclus began to relax, he slowly started to get ready for the day.Â
It would be fine. He could be Achillesâs fake boyfriend without lusting after him. All he needed to do was pretend he wasnât so physically attracted to him, and it would all work out just fine. It would be easy.
But first, Patroclus needed to take a cold shower.
If Achilles was at all perturbed by Patroclusâs staring at his half naked form, he didnât show it much to the brunetteâs relief. Rather, he seemed quite chipper as he walked Patroclus through the itinerary of the day. It seemed that the excitement of the beginning of the tour had temporarily dissolved Achillesâs feelings of apathy towards the way his management had taken over his career.
Achilles explained that he and his team had already done a lot of practice in preparation for the start of the tour, so this day would mostly be a lot of equipment setup and last minute rehearsal of a few songs.
Upon their arrival to the venue, Achilles was eager to introduce Patroclus to his crew.Â
First, Patroclus met the singerâs band. There was Automedon, a cheerful young man who was the drummer and keyboardist of the band. Along with Automedon, Patroclus met the lead guitarist, a kind man named Phoenix who was clearly good friends with Achilles and with whom Patroclus got along easily. Lastly, he was introduced to the bassist, a savvy woman named Penelope who Patroclus was surprised to find out was married to Achillesâs manager Odysseus.
âEven though her husband and I donât get along well, Penelope is cool,â Achilles said as he led Patroclus away. âShe keeps Odysseus and I from biting each othersâ heads off.â
Patroclus hummed in acknowledgement, remembering how icy Achilles acted towards his manager. He was definitely curious as to why they didnât seem to get along, but it wasnât his place to pry.
âSpeak of the devil,â Achilles mumbled as they turned a corner and saw the aforementioned man heading towards them.
âAchilles, Patroclus,â Odysseus greeted the two with a genial smile. âIâm glad to see you two made it here in one piece.âÂ
Patroclus and Achilles greeted the man, the latter offering him a mere grunt in acknowledgment.
Odysseus ignored Achillesâs lackluster response, moving on to let him know where he was needed. âThey want you to start your vocal warmups and take some photos, Achilles.â
âOkay,â Achilles agreed, turning to Patroclus, âCâmon, you can watchââ
âActually,â Odysseus interjected, a mischievous twinkle in his eye as he looked at Patroclus, âI was thinking that I could stay with Mr. Menoitiades while you warm up. Iâm sure he would like to escape the hustle and bustle of all the concert preparations before the show.â
Achilles frowned, casting a dubious glance between his manager and Patroclus. Patroclus was surprised at Odysseusâs suggestion, but he hid it behind a smile that he hoped would be reassuring to Achilles. He didnât want to disturb the singerâs warmups by being in the way at all.
âI donât mind,â Patroclus said, catching onto the uncertainty behind the blondeâs expression. âIâd like to stretch my legs anyway.â
âAlright,â Achilles conceded, reaching out to gently touch Patroclusâs forearm, âIâll come find you afterwards, okay?â
âSounds good,â Patroclus nodded, doing his best to ignore the way the singerâs hand felt on his arm. Why did such a simple touch make him feel so nervous?
Achilles gave him one last smile, and a brief narrowing of his eyes directed at Odysseus, before he turned and headed down a different corridor.Â
Once Achilles was gone, Odysseus turned to Patroclus. âWalk with me,â he said, turning and setting off down the hallway.
âIs⊠there something in particular you wanted to talk about?â It was clear that the man wanted to speak with him alone, so Patroclus wanted to skip the small talk and get straight to the point.
Odysseus chuckled and nodded at Patroclusâs question. âHow has your time with Mr. Pelides been so far? Iâm sure it must be a huge adjustment for you to take a break from your job and go touring with a celebrity.â
Patroclus paused to think about the manâs question as he walked beside him. âWell, it is weird to not be at the hospital,â he said. âBut I think it might be a good thing to be away for a while. My friends are always saying that I work too hard anyway.â
Odysseus hummed in response, giving him a knowing look. âI trust Achilles has been making you feel welcome as well?â
Patroclus couldnât help but smile to himself at the question, thinking back to how kind and open Achilles had been with him thus far. He hadnât been obligated to pay any attention to Patroclus outside of their contracted appearances, yet he spoke and laughed with him as if they were old childhood friends. Although they had only met days before, Patroclus could confidently say that Achilles was the perfect gentleman, and even friend, to him.
âYes, of course,â Patroclus answered truthfully.
âGood, good,â Odysseus clasped his hands together. âYou know, Iâve known Achilles since he was a child. His father and I actually used to be good friends. Well, until we had a⊠disagreement of sorts.â The man had a far away look in his eyes, as if he were distinctly remembering a moment from the past.
Patroclus frowned, unsure of how he should respond. âWhy are you telling me this, sir?â
His question seemed to snap the man out of his reverie as Odysseusâs gentle smile returned once more when he looked at Patroclus again.Â
âOdysseus,â the man corrected. âAnd my point is, I know Achilles well. I watched him grow up, and though he would hate to admit it, I know him better than most others. Because of this, I suppose I just wanted to give you a word of caution, Patroclus. Tell me, what have you heard about Mr. Pelidesâs reputation?â
A word of caution? Why would Patroclus need to be cautious around Achilles?
âNot much,â Patroclus shrugged. âI mean, I heard from my friend that he had been kind of reckless lately, but honestly before the concert the other night I never really paid much attention to him.â
Patroclusâs last comment caused a chuckle to escape Odysseusâs mouth. âBetter let that stay between us. Iâm certain Achilles wouldnât be pleased to hear that,â he said with a wink, earning a sheepish nod from Patroclus.
As the pair approached a lounge area down one of the hallways, Odysseus guided Patroclus to take a seat on one of the sofas in the room. Once they were both seated, there was a pause in which the man seemed to turn words over in his mind before he continued to speak.
âAchilles Pelides is, in my humble opinion, one of the finest musical artists this generation has seen. However, that level of fame seems to have taken a toll on him. In recent years, Achilles has had quite the reputation of being a playboy and a partier. He has had relations with several people, both men and women, although none of those relationships have lasted. Mr. Pelidesâs public bisexuality has prompted individuals from all over to flock to him, but none of them have truly seen Achilles for who he really is. I believe this has caused him to⊠act out lately.
âThis is why I urge you to exercise caution with him. Though Achilles and I have our differences, I care for his safety. And I wish for him to be surrounded by people who are good to him. He can be reckless at times, but in the end he has a good heart. One that I would hate to see broken yet again,â Odysseus finished, his stern tone of voice a stark contrast to the calm and gentle demeanor he had before. The manâs serious expression conveyed the gravity of his words as he awaited Patroclusâs response.
Patroclus was visibly startled by Odysseusâs words. Was the man trying to threaten him? Did he think he was going to hurt Achilles somehow?
âAre you trying to say that I shouldnât get close to Achilles?â Patroclus asked cautiously.
âNot at all,â Odysseus shook his head, his previous friendliness beginning to return. âIn fact, I think that it would be good if you two were companions whilst on this tour. I am merely urging you to take care of not only Achilles, but watch out for yourself as well. Mr. Pelides is a complicated man after all.â
Okay, that definitely wasnât ominous at all. Patroclus definitely wasnât planning on hurting Achilles in any way. But why was Odysseus telling him to watch out for himself? How could Achilles possibly hurt him?
âOf course,â Patroclus assured the man, trying to tamp down his confusion at the otherâs words.
Seemingly satisfied by Patroclusâs assurance, Odysseus smiled in gratitude before his eyes drifted to the doorway behind where Patroclus was seated.
âWhat were you guys talking about?â a voice, which Patroclus instantly recognized as Achillesâs, came from the hallway.
Patroclus immediately turned around to see the blonde leaning against the doorframe with an air of nonchalance. Briefly, Patroclus noticed the way Achillesâs lips twitched when he looked at Odysseus in question.Â
âOh, I was just asking Mr. Monoetiades about his time on tour so far,â Odysseus said as he stood up and began to walk out of the lounge room, Patroclus following suit. âItâs such a big adjustment to be here instead of at the hospital, of course.â
Achilles looked to Patroclus as if asking for confirmation, to which the latter gave him a reassuring nod and smile. Technically Odysseus did ask about how he has been doing here.
âRight,â Achilles said after eyeing Patroclus carefully. âWell, if you two are done I was coming to see if Patroclus wanted to watch me rehearse a few songs.â
Patroclus nodded in agreement. He found himself eager to watch the singer perform without a large audience, even if it was only a rehearsal.
âIâd love to,â he smiled, glad when he saw Achilles perk up with a pleased look falling on his face.
A few hours later, the concert was in full swing.
Before the concert had started, Patroclus was led to a private tent guarded by security towards the middle front of the venue, giving the man a clear view of his fake boyfriend. Achilles had joked about this, saying that now Patroclus wouldnât have to look at the screens in order to check him out. In response, the flustered Patroclus had merely given the blonde a halfhearted plea for him to shut up, eliciting one of those beautiful laughs that Patroclus was becoming fond of.
Patroclus was glad for the privacy he was granted within the tent. Well, for the most part at least. As he had entered the secure area he had caught the attention of several concertgoers, many of which had pulled out their phones to snap a picture or video of Achillesâs new beau.Â
Per Odysseusâs instruction, Patroclus did his best to ignore the attention he was receiving as people noticed him in passing. It was hard though, as he was ordinarily used to being ignored by those around him. And given the mixed reactions he had been receiving online, he once again felt very self-conscious about his appearance and every move.Â
Once the concert started after what felt like ages, Patroclus was glad to no longer be watched so carefully by Achillesâs fans. It also helped that the tent he was in was located far enough away from the main crowd and behind barricades so he didnât have to worry about being disturbed throughout the show.
Everything from the light features and stage design to the concertâs setlist were very different than they were when Patroclus had last attended Achillesâs concert, but they were equally as stunning.Â
When Achilles entered the stage, Patroclus had immediately noticed the blondeâs stage attire. It consisted of slightly oversized black pants with fashionably placed pockets and chains, and a deep blue mesh top that left very little to the imagination. Not that Patroclus had to imagine anything after that morningâŠÂ
Focus on the performance, he quickly had to remind himself, determined to not break the unofficial agreement he had made with himself that morning.
As the concert progressed, Patroclus found himself enjoying himself just as much, if not more than the first time he had seen Achilles perform.Â
He played some of the songs from the last concert, and Patroclus was surprised to find that he remembered the lyrics to most of them. There were also a good amount of songs that hadnât been played the other night, but were equally as powerful. Just like before, the blondeâs singing voice was silky smooth and irresistibly captivating. His vocals were also highlighted by the dramatic lighting that matched the moods of each song with different color palettes and effects.
In between songs, Achilles also included a lot of fan interactions that kept the show lively and entertaining. At one point, he even brought a lucky fan up onstage to sing one of his slower songs with him as he played the piano.Â
The man commanded the stage throughout the whole night, leaving no doubt that Achilles was a born performer and star. Every movement and expression seemed to come easily to him as he moved around the stage, effectively captivating the audience. Several times, Patroclus thought he noticed the singer cast gazes towards him but he ended up telling himself that those heated glances were mere coincidences.
As Patroclus watched the blonde, he couldnât help but notice the way in which he seemed so joyful and radiant as he sang his heart out. In a way, he almost looked younger than his twenty-five years of age in that he was so carefree and happy as he performed for his fans.Â
Recalling their conversation on the bus ride, Patroclus was glad to see Achilles enjoying himself. The man deserved to be happy without the pressure of the media and his management causing him stress. If only Achilles could be this content all the time, then that gorgeous smile of his would never have to leave his face.
Around two hours later the concert had wrapped up and Patroclus was led by Ajax and a few other security team members backstage. Achilles, who had just finished downing a bottle of water, immediately beamed when he saw Patroclus. With rosy cheeks and wide, bright eyes, the man approached the brunette and pulled him into a hug, to the latterâs surprise.
âPatroclus!â Achilles said, pulling away after a moment to look at the man, but keeping his hands on his back. âHow was it?â
The blondeâs palpable energy caused Patroclus to beam back at him. In this moment, Achilles looked just like a little kid who won his first football match.
âIt was amazing,â the brunette responded earnestly. âYou were great. I had a lot of fun.â
Achillesâs grin became even wider, if that were even possible. He was clearly pleased by Patroclusâs response, causing the brunette to blush at the idea that Achilles seemed to value his opinion so much already.
âAn awesome opening night, Achilles.â
Both menâs attention was diverted to Phoenix, who clapped a hand on Achillesâs back. Achilles let go of Patroclus to turn to his guitarist, clasping his hand in greeting, saying, âHell yeah, man!â
âWeâre gonna go out tonight to celebrate,â Phoenix said. âYou two coming?â
âIâm not sure yet,â Achilles responded, glancing at Patroclus with a certain glint in his eyes.
Phoenix frowned at the manâs response. âCâmon man, you always go out after the first showââ
âChill, Phoenix,â Penelope said as she came over to the trio, pulling the strap of her bass over her head and setting the instrument down on a stand nearby. âIâm sure Achilles just wants to relax with his âboyfriendâ tonight.â
The woman flashed Patroclus a wink and a knowing smirk, making the brunette flush under her attention.
Achilles chuckled at the womanâs statement. âIâll come out another time guys, I promise. Besides, we still have the whole rest of the tour to hang out.â
Having reassured Phoenix with this statement, Achilles and Patroclus bade the band members and the rest of the singerâs crew goodnight and headed back to the hotel so that Achilles could shower and change.
âYou can go out with them if you want,â Patroclus said when Achilles had exited the bathroom after his shower. Thankfully, the blonde had changed into a hoodie and pants so Patroclus didnât have a repeat of that morning. âIâll be fine by myself here.â
Achilles smiled softly and shook his head. âI donât want to. Actually, I was thinking we could do something on our own.â
Achilles wanted to do something with just him?
âReally?â Patroclus said with a bemused smile. âAlright, what do you want to do?â
Achilles merely gave him a mischievous smile, reaching out to grab Patroclusâs hand and pulling him up from the sofa he was seated on. âWeâll just have to see where the night takes us.â
The pair ended up taking a taxi to the Ladadika district, not far from where the concert was within Thessaloniki. The neighborhood was lively and bright even at this time of night, full of bars and restaurants with many younger people milling about and enjoying themselves.
Patroclus took in the sights and breathed in the amazing smells of the local food vendors. He was excited to experience all that the area had to offer, but he stopped himself from getting carried away when he came to a realization.
âWait, are you sure we should be doing this? Arenât we breaking that rule Agamemnon gave us about bringing security wherever we go or something?â Patroclus frowned as he looked at Achilles, who seemed completely unbothered.
The man shrugged with an amused grin. âAgamemnonâs ârulesâ are more like suggestions to me.â He then reached over and grasped Patroclusâs hand for the second time that night and began walking down one of the cobblestone streets. âCâmon, Iâm starving.â
Patroclusâs heart beat traitorously in his chest as he allowed himself to be led through the amply lit street.
Heâs just doing this for show, he told himself as he looked at their intertwined hands. Though the blonde had pulled his hood over his head so he was unrecognizable from afar, making the whole fake boyfriend stunt unnecessary for the time being.
As the night went on they went to a variety of street food carts, getting their fill of souvlaki and tiropita, with loukoumades for dessert, which they washed down with samples of spirits from different vendors.
Though they were only a bit tipsy off the alcohol, the two stumbled around the streets laughing and joking as if they were university students on vacation.
At one point, they found a stray striped orange cat wandering around the sidewalk, which Achilles immediately began trying to lure over to them.
âPspspsps,â the blonde said as he crouched down with an extended hand to the cat.
Patroclus burst out in laughter, probably louder than he intended. âIt doesnât look very interested in you,â he said, watching as the cat merely stared at Achilles, making no move to come closer.
âTrust me, Iâm the cat whisperer,â Achilles said, looking up at Patroclus and causing him to laugh even harder.
âOh yeah? Then why has the cat disappeared?â
âWhat?â Achilles frowned, head snapping to where the cat was indeed nowhere to be found. âAw, man.â
Amused, Patroclus gave Achilles a sympathetic pat on the back when he stood up. âDonât worry, Iâm sure it had nothing to do with you, Mr. Cat Whisperer.â
Achilles playfully rolled his eyes and kept walking. âIâll get the next one to let me pet it, just you wait.â
âSure,â Patroclus grinned and walked alongside him. âIâm looking forward to it.â
After spending some time wandering around and listening to various live musicians, the men found themselves walking along the waterfront.
While it was dark out, the water was illuminated by several lampposts and the moon. It was serene and quiet compared to the activity of the shopping area.
âCâmere,â Achilles said softly, bringing Patroclusâs attention to the blonde who had pulled his hood off as there was no one nearby.
âWhatâs up?â
âI want to get a picture.â
Achilles gently pulled Patroclus close to him, his hand on his waist which was reminiscent of when he had declared the brunette as his boyfriend. He pulled out his phone and they angled themselves so that their smiling faces were lit up well enough, with the sea in the background.
Patroclus cleared his throat, extracting himself from the blondeâs hold once the picture was taken.Â
âWas that for social media?â he asked casually.
âNo, just for us. I donât want to forget this night.â
Oh.
A lump formed in Patroclusâs throat. The thump of his heart felt impossibly heavy in his chest.
Not trusting himself with words, Patroclus merely smiled in return and turned to look back at the view of the water. Though the view was pretty, Patroclusâs mind was racing as he tried to make sense of Achillesâs words.
There was a long moment of silence between the two as they watched the waves swell and crash upon the shore. Eventually, Achilles spoke up, interrupting Patroclus from his thoughts.
âPatroclus?â
The man was startled by the sudden utterance of his name.
âHm?â He looked back at Achilles, forcing a small smile on his face. One that he hoped wouldnât convey his inner turmoil.
Achilles opened his mouth, ready to speak when he was interrupted by the shrill squeals of several women nearby.
âIs that Achilles Pelides?â
âIt is him! Itâs Achilles!â
âShit,â Achilles groaned, realizing that a large group of women was rapidly approaching them, clearly recognizing him with his hood off.Â
Before either men could move, the group descended upon them. Loud pleas for autographs and pictures from their favorite singer rang out, disrupting the prior peace of the waterfront.
Patroclus was frozen in place, still unused to being around swarms of people like this. Much to his dismay, a couple of the fans realized that he was there with Achilles and started spewing comments directed at him.
âHoly shit,â one chimed, âItâs that Patroclus guy!â
âAre you two actually dating?â
âI bet their relationship is fake. Youâre just using Achilles for clout, arenât you?â
âThereâs no way Achilles would actually date this guy!â
Almost all of them had pulled out their cameras, snapping several pictures of him. The lights of the flashes were blinding so close to Patroclusâs eyes. This was somehow worse than that first paparazzi encounter he had not that long ago.
âI donâtâ,â Patroclus tried to stutter something, anything out, âNo, Iââ
His words fell on deaf ears as some of the fans lost interest in him. He panicked as he found himself being shoved away as the fans pushed their way past him to get to Achilles. In this state, he hardly noticed the way in which Achilles was trying to get ahold of him and telling the fans to leave him alone.
Patroclus felt helpless as he lost his balance and fell to the ground as he was pushed aside.
âSTOP!â a voice bellowed out immediately, causing the chatter of the group to die down.
Achilles.
The singer pushed his way forcefully through the crowd to reach Patroclus, pulling him up and wrapping his arms around him protectively.Â
âAre you okay?â he said immediately, roving his eyes up and down to make sure the brunette was unharmed.
Patroclus gave him a shaky nod. Once Achilles was sure the brunette was okay, he turned a furious glare onto the raucous fans.
âWhat is wrong with you people?â he seethed.
There was complete silence from the group, minus the surprised squeak of one of the women.
âI donât give a shit if you like my music. You cannot treat people like this. You canât treat Patroclus like this. And you have no right to assume you actually know anything about us,â Achilles said forcefully. âI donât care how much you all supposedly like me or my music, if you canât have any human fucking decency then I donât want to have anything to do with so-called âfansâ like you. Now, apologize to my boyfriend and then leave us the hell alone.â
Patroclus looked between Achilles and the group in shock, his facial expression matching those of the latter.
After a beat of silence, the group members stuttered out hasty apologies and sheepish glances at Achilles before quickly scattering and leaving the men alone.
âYou didnât have to do that,â Patroclus said quietly once the group was out of sight.Â
While Achillesâs words were harsh, he felt comforted by the fact that the man seemed to care so much about his safety.
âYes, I did,â Achilles responded. âIâm really sorry, Patroclus. I shouldnât have let them get so close to you and say all that. Some of my âfansâ have no sense of respect.â
He was calmer now, but still clearly upset by what had happened as he continued to hold onto Patroclus and look for any sign of discomfort from him.
âItâs alright, Achilles. They surprised us both. Iâm just glad you got them to leave.â At Achillesâs look of skepticism, Patroclus offered him a reassuring smile. âReally, I swear Iâm okay.â
Achilles nodded in acceptance and let go of Patroclus, who subconsciously missed the warmth of his embrace.
âPatroclus, Iâll always keep you safe. You can count on me,â Achilles promised as they began to walk back to catch a taxi back to the hotel. His eyes were soft as he looked at the brunette.
âI know,â Patroclus responded.
He felt warm inside knowing without a doubt that Achilles meant those words.

Previous Part | Next Part
After Patroclus had agreed to create the illusion of a relationship with Achilles, the singerâs management team had thrown a lot of information at him. First, they went over some ground rules on how he was supposed to be acting whilst on the tour.
1. Do not answer any of the pressâ questions unless specifically instructed to do so.
2. Do not venture anywhere without bringing sufficient security personnel.
3. Do not share your location on any form of social media.
4. Do not have any form of romantic relations with anyone else while linked to Mr. Pelides.
5. Do not catch feelings.
Their rules were logical, if a tad strict. Patroclus understood them well enough, feeling like he would have no problem following the majority of them. The last one thoughâŠÂ
Both Agamemnon and Thetis had emphasized it, reasoning that if feelings were involved then the inevitable breakup would be made messier than need be. They werenât wrong, but the way they had looked so pointedly at him and Achilles had him thinking.
He was never one to fall for people super quickly, but he could definitely see himself developing feelings for the man who was the literal embodiment of beauty and sunshine. Maybe they wouldnât even be spending that much time with each other outside public appearances though. Then Patroclus wouldnât have to worry about violating the rule.
He didnât have much time to dwell on it, however, as they then moved onto the itinerary for the tour. It wasnât a huge tour as far as location goes, but the number of people who were said to be attending was exponential. Although Achillesâs recent behavior had caused him to lose a chunk of his fanbase, it seemed as though that didnât stop the most devoted fans from traveling far and wide for a chance to see their favorite singer in concert. Along the way, there were several stops planned in which Achilles and Patroclus would showcase their adoring relationship. Although they both knew it would all be an act.
After going through some last logistics, Patroclus had been sent home to pack any belongings he would need for the duration of the tour. When he got home, he was met with a barrage of questions from Nikolaos and Briseis, who had been worried sick when he had not met them at the car as planned after the concert.Â
Patroclus explained everything from his first meeting with Achilles to the deal he had stuck up with the singerâs management. He was met with excitement from Nikolaos and a great deal of skepticism from Briseis, both of which he had expected. He spent a good chunk of time recounting the details of the night before and his time at Mycenae Records, and promised profusely that he would leave if he ever felt uncomfortable with the situation.Â
The next day, Patroclus found himself moving around his apartment tossing some last minute items into his bags before the car came to pick him up and take him to the tour bus.
Briseis and Nikolaosâwho had slept overnight to see Patroclus off in the morningâwatched him bustle from his room to the living room as he finished filling his bags.Â
âDoes this mean that you guys are gonna have to kiss a lot in public?â Nikolaos asked, waggling his eyebrows suggestively.
âNikolaos!â Briseis sighed.
âWhat? Itâs a valid question!â Nikolaos said, unable to stifle a laugh as he winked at Patroclus.
Patroclus was wide eyed and frozen in place as he stumbled over his words. âIâ I donât thinkâ We havenât really discussed specific⊠physical intimacy that weâre supposed to be displaying.â He mentally cringed at his choice of wording. âI think itâll just be hand holding and⊠things like that.â
âJust ignore him, Pat,â Briseis said, swatting at Nikolaos who was cackling at how flustered he made his friend. âJust do things that you are comfortable with. No matter what.â
Patroclus nodded sheepishly as Nikolaosâs laughter died down. Just as he set the last of his things in one of the bags, the doorbell rang.
âIâll get it,â Patroclus wandered over to open the apartment door. He had expected one of Achillesâs team members such as Ajax to be on the other side of the door, but instead he came face to face with the golden haired man himself.
Achilles beamed at him with a toothy grin. âPatroclus!âÂ
âAchilles,â Patroclus smiled back, surprised to see him but happy nonetheless, âItâs good to see you. Come in, you can meet my friends.â He opened the door wider and stepped inside to reveal Nikolaos and Briseis gaping at the celebrity.Â
âDude,â the former breathed out. He tore his attention away from the tall blonde who smiled indulgently. âDude,â Nikolaos repeated, looking at Patroclus. âYou did not tell us Achilles Pelides was going to be the one picking you up.â
âI didnât know,â Patroclus replied, sharing a look of fond exasperation with Briseis.
âI hope me being here is alright,â Achilles said with a knowing grin.
âOf course itâs alright!â Nikolaos rushed out. âIâm a huge fan of yours, Achillesâ Can I call you Achilles? Youâre so talented and I have all of your songs memorized by heart. Wait, I have somethingââ
Before Achilles was able to thank him for the praise, Nikolaos moved over to his bag that was on the ground by the sofa.Â
Patroclus couldnât help but laugh as his friend pulled out a vinyl of one of Achillesâs most popular albums, Meraki. âDo you bring that everywhere, Nik?â he teased.
âNo!â Nikolaos said defensively, the tips of his ears turning pink. âI just thought that since youâre going on tour with Achilles you would be able to have him sign this for me, but since heâs hereâŠ,â he trailed off, looking at the singer hopefully.
âIâd be happy to,â Achilles nodded, taking the marker offered to him and signing his name in big, swooping letters and ending it with a flourish.
Nikolaos thanked the man when he took the vinyl back, looking between him and the signature in awe.
âOkay,â Patroclus said, ânow that thatâs done, I should introduce these two properly. The fanboyââ
âHey, Iâm notââ
ââis Nikolaos, he works at the hospital with me. And Briseis,â Patroclus gestured to the woman in turn, âis my other best friend and my roommate.â
âItâs a pleasure to meet you both,â Achilles reached out to shake each of their hands.
Briseis hummed thoughtfully, regarding the blonde with a blazing stare. âI trust you will take care of Patroclus?â she said, although it sounded awfully like a warning.
Patroclus had come to be very familiar with the womanâs protectiveness over the years, especially regarding him. It was endearing and he knew Briseis always meant well, but at the moment he couldnât help but feel bashful at his friendâs cautionary intonation.
âOf course,â Achilles assured without hesitation, âI promise he will be safe with me.â
âGood,â Briseis nodded, âBecause if heâs hurt in any wayâŠâ
âBriseis,â Patroclus groaned, looking apologetically towards Achilles.
âItâs alright,â the blonde reassured him. âPatroclus will come to no harm under my watch,â he addressed Briseis sincerely.Â
The woman nodded resolutely and turned to Patroclus, pulling him into a hug. âCall me if you need anything at all, and be safe,â she murmured into his ear.Â
âI will,â Patroclus replied once he pulled away from the embrace. He kissed Briseis on the cheek and smiled at her once more before turning to Nikolaos. âTake care of yourself,â he said, giving the starstruck man a hug. âIâll see you guys in a  couple months.â
Nikolaos sobered as he said goodbye to his friend. âYou better give us tons of updates,â he said before dropping his voice to a lower tone only Patroclus could hear. âAnd have fun, get some dickââ
âOkay!â Patroclus exclaimed, pulling away suddenly. âWe should get going!â His voice was higher than usual as he turned to Achilles, who looked on bemusedly at the manâs sudden change in demeanor.
With a last goodbye, Patroclus hurriedly dragged Achilles out of the apartment after snatching up his belongings before Nikolaos could share anymore embarrassing comments aloud.
It wasnât long before the two men had settled in nicely on the tour bus as they waited for the drive ahead of them to the first city of the tour. Upon their arrival, they were informed that Odysseus, Ajax, and the rest of Achillesâs team would be meeting them later om, so they had the whole bus to themselves for the duration of the trip.Â
The bus was surprisingly spacious and was even decked out with comfortable seating, a television, and a mini fridge full of snacks and beverages.Â
Once Achilles and Patroclus had looked at all the amenities on the vehicle, they sat down on the sectional in the back area across from the TV and got comfortable as the bus pulled out of the parking lot and onto the road.
It was silent for a while as the two men watched the city go by through the window. Eventually, Patroclus cleared his throat, figuring he had better get to know Achilles more since they would be on tour together for the better part of three months.
âSo,â Patroclus started, getting the manâs attention, âAre you excited for the tour?â
Achilles turned to face Patroclus. âYeah, I really love performing and the fans are usually great for the most part,â he said, although Patroclus had a feeling there was something the singer wasnât sharing.
âBut?â he prompted gently.
There was visible hesitation in Achillesâs expression and Patroclus was about to backtrack and drop the subject altogether until the blonde spoke up.Â
âWell,â he said with a dry chuckle, âI guess it just feels different this time. Back when I first started singing and making music it was so⊠raw, full of passion. My first album, Merakiâthe one I signed for your friendâwas exactly what the title means. It was the essence of myself. A labor of love I was able to put my whole soul into.â
There was a gleam in Achillesâs eyes, a certain reverie as he talked. Patroclus couldnât help but smile as he observed the beauty in the way that he spoke. His tone was captivating and full of life, his dedication to his craft clear with every word.
âHow is it different now?â Patroclus asked once Achilles finished speaking.
A bittersweet smile graced Achillesâs face. There was a shift in tone as he spoke now, his voice full of longing and despondency. âI⊠donât have a lot of say in my music nowadays,â he sighed, leaning back on the sectional and staring at the ceiling. âFor the past couple years Iâve been like Mycenae Recordsâ little puppet.â
Patroclus reached out to touch the manâs arm tentatively. âYou donât have to talk to me about it if you donât want to, Achilles.â
Achilles looked back at him, eyes roving over him carefully. âNo,â he shook his head. âItâs okay, I want to.â He was quiet for a moment, turning the words over in his head.
âEver since my music became mainstream worldwide, my management has given me less and less control over the songs I write,â he sighed. âI still write the vast majority of my songs, but the ideas I pitch for the way I want my music to sound are usually shut down until I come up with something that fits their idea of a âhitâ. Itâs all about money and fame in their eyes. Itâs no longer about the art of simply creating music.â
Patroclus shifted in his seat as he let Achillesâs words sink in. It was incredibly unfair that the singer was being robbed of his ability to freely express himself. No wonder he seemed so on edge during the concert the other night.
âIâm really sorry,â Patroclus frowned. âThey should have more respect for you and your talent.â
Achilles shrugged, âItâs whatever. Not much I can do about it.â
âIs this why you seemed so angry during the concert?â Patroclus asked.
The blonde laughed at the question. âWas it that obvious?â he smiled sheepishly.
âNo.â Patroclus shook his head. âIt was just⊠something I noticed. I guess I could kind of tell from your facial expressions.â
âYouâre very perceptive, Patroclus,â Achilles grinned, leaning closer to him. âYou mustâve been watching me pretty closely to have noticed that.âÂ
Heat immediately enveloped Patroclusâs face and the tips of his ears. âIâ Youâ,â he spluttered. âI wasnât trying to, you just had a lot of closeups on the screens.â
Achillesâs laughter drowned out the brunetteâs protests. âRelax,â he smirked. âIâm just teasing you.â He winked at the disgruntled Patroclus, who gave him a soft shove in return.
âYouâre mean,â Patroclus complained, although his words held no malice.
âAm I?â the blonde hummed. âWell, you agreed to come on tour with me, so I guess youâre stuck with me.âÂ
Achilles nudged Patroclusâs shoulder with his own, and the latter sighed. âOh no, whatever shall I do?â he gasped in mock despair, which caused the blonde to laugh again. Patroclus chuckled along with him, glad to be getting along so easily with the singer.Â
After their laughter died down and there was a moment of silence between them, Patroclus voiced a question that had been in the back of his mind since the meeting with the singerâs management.
âAchilles, if you donât mind me asking, who is Deidameia?â
Achilles stiffened at the question, causing Patroclus to regret erasing the pretty smile off of the blondeâs face.Â
âSheâsâŠ,â Achilles trailed off, grimacing at the thought of her. âSheâs a singer under a different label. Sheâs the one they were originally going to set me up with before I declared you were my boyfriend.â
âOh.â Patroclus looked away in shame. Did Achilles wish he were here with this Deidameia woman instead?
Achilles watched a pout begin to form on the manâs face and he hastily eased his worries. âI much prefer you over her though,â he said. âThey only wanted me to have a fake relationship with her for publicity sake. To tell you the truth, I canât stand her.â
Patroclus felt himself relax, although he had no reason to feel tense in the first place. He and Achilles werenât in a real relationship, after all.
âWhyâs that?â he questioned.
Achilles leaned back in his seat. âWe first met at the musician training agency before our careers really took off,â he began. âI was already having a rough time adjusting to the agencyâs strict requirements. They pretty much controlled my entire schedule, what I ate, where I went, who I associated myself with. Anyway, Deidameia was also one of the new trainees there, and she quickly became obsessed with me, to say the least. She got this idea in her head that we were meant to be together even though Iâve repeatedly told her Iâm not interested in a relationship with her. I understand having a crush, but her obsession with me has always gone further than what Iâm comfortable with.â
Patroclus made a face at the thought of the woman. âThat sounds awful. She should learn to respect your boundaries.â
âItâs okay, I donât have to see her super often anyway. Well, now I guess I donât have a choice. My management loves herâmy mother especiallyâso of course they chose her to be my fake partner. Though sheâs definitely talented, Iâll give her that.â
Patroclus placed a sympathetic hand on the blondeâs shoulder, causing Achilles to snap out of his train of thoughts. âAnyway,â he said, forcing a smile back onto his face. âEnough about me, letâs talk about you, Patroclus.â
âOh.â Patroclus removed his hand from Achillesâs shoulder, startled by the sudden focus on himself. âUm, sure. What do you want to know?âÂ
He didnât usually like to talk about himself, much preferring to listen to what others had to say. He never thought he was that interesting of a person to begin with anyway.Â
But here was this beauty of a man with wide, eager eyes. Looking at Patroclus as if he were the most fascinating being in the world. Something about the way Achilles gave him his full attention had Patroclus thinking he could pour his whole soul out to the man.
âWell, how about you tell me why you decided to become a nurse?â Achilles suggested.Â
A fond smile fell across Patroclusâs face. Nursing. That he could talk about.Â
âItâs always been something Iâve been interested in,â he started. âIâve always enjoyed the science behind health and the human body. But what I love most is the people. Ever since I was young, Iâve always loved being able to care for and help others. And through nursing, Iâm able to do just that, plus I get to continue to learn about medicine and science.â
Patroclus finished his sentence and then caught a glimpse of Achillesâs expression. âW- Why are you looking at me like that?â he chuckled nervously, cheeks flushed. The blonde had such a fervent look on his face that it caught him off guard.
âNo reason,â Achilles grinned. âThatâs really cool, Patroclus. Iâm glad that youâre following your passion with your career.â
Patroclus beamed back at him. Although he wasnât used to this sort of attention, he felt warmth at the idea that someone genuinely cared about what he had to say, and what interested him. There werenât many people who took the time to get to know him this way.
âThanks, Achilles. I appreciate it.â
âAnytime,â Achilles replied easily. The blonde winked, chuckling at the way Patroclusâ eyes widened slightly at the gesture. âAnyway, do you want to play a game or something? I brought my Nintendo Switch to pass the time.â
Patroclus eyed the gaming console Achilles pulled out of his bag, grinning when he saw the selection of games on the device.
âSure,â Patroclus said, âBut you better be prepared to get your ass kicked in Mario Kart.â
âOh, itâs on,â Achilles laughed, nudging him playfully.
The time on the bus flew by quickly for Patroclus. Between playing games and just chatting with Achilles, it wasnât long before the pair had arrived at the hotel they would be staying at for the first leg of the tour.Â
âHere we are,â the singer said, setting the bags down as he fumbled for the room key. He had insisted on carrying Patroclusâs belongings, despite the latterâs protests that he was more than capable of doing it himself.
Patroclus looked around, frowning in confusion. âOnly one room?â
Achilles gave him a sympathetic smile as he scanned the key card and opened the door. âYeah, sorry I should have mentioned it earlier,â he said, picking up the bags again and holding the door open for him. âOn the bright side, thereâs two separate beds this time.â
Patroclus stepped into the room, this one just as lavish as the last. Eyeing the aforementioned queen sized beds, he felt relieved that at least no one would have to sleep on the sofa.
Achilles must have seen the uncertainty in Patroclusâs expression, as he set the bags down and rushed to say, âAgamemnon set it up like this because heâs concerned about us being seen sleeping separately, so to speak. But if youâre uncomfortable with this, I can talk to Odysseus about it and get it figured out. I am more than fine with disobeying Agamemnonâs orders, after all.â
Patroclus smiled softly at him. It was kind of Achilles to be mindful about how he might be feeling about the situation, even though he would be going against his bossâs wishes.
âItâs alright,â the brunette assured him. âI donât mind at all.â
Within the next hour, the two had ordered room service, having not eaten in a while, and were lounging on one of the beds with the array of foods set out before them. The TV was turned on to some fast-paced cooking show as Achilles and Patroclus gave in depth commentary on the drama that unfolded throughout the episodes.Â
Even after the food was finished and they had gotten ready for bed, they had returned to the same bed, not wanting to stop hanging out despite both of them being tired after a long day of travel. Before long, both of the mensâ words had begun to slur with exhaustion.
Patroclus had half a mind to get up and crawl into the bed not even three feet away, but the pillow his head was currently laying on was oh so soft. Achilles didnât make any attempt to protest, his own eyes beginning to drift shut.
Surely one night in the same bed wonât change anything, Patroclus thought distantly.Â
As he drifted off into a peaceful sleep, he faintly noticed the comforting scent of figs and honey that enveloped him.

[Age 15]
The first time Coriolanus saw you cry, his entire world turned upside down.
It was the weekend and he was undertaking the arduous process of creating flashcards for his midterm exams, when he received a text message from you.
Coryo, please come over. I need you.
The message left much to the imagination, leading Coriolanus to think of a plethora of circumstances that might have prompted you to text him.
Had you gotten hurt? Were you in trouble?
He didnât stop to ponder this for too long. All he knew was that the message sounded urgent, which worried him greatly. Abandoning his flashcards mid-sentence, he quickly stood up and made his way to the foyer. Shrugging on his coat haphazardly and hastily stuffing his feet into his shoes, he began to make the short trek to your house.
He practically ran overâfor once not caring who saw himâand it wasnât long before he was knocking on your front door.
Your younger sister, Camille, answered the door. She wasnât surprised to see him as he came over often enough, but there was a certain sadness in her eyes as she looked up at Coriolanus. It was clear she had been crying, with redness around her eyes and tear tracks on her cheeks. If your sister was upset, then Coryo feared to see the state you were in as well.
âCoryo,â Camille greeted without her usual exuberance.Â
âCamille,â Coriolanus said, catching his breath after his jaunt through the winter cold. âWhereâsââ
âSheâs in her room,â the girl answered, nodding her head towards the staircase.
Coryo nodded, pulling the girl into a one-armed hug. âThank you.â
After taking his shoes and coat off, he offered Camille a soft smile before heading up the stairs. He knew there would be time to comfort your sister later, but for now you were his top priority.
Knocking on your bedroom door, he heard a soft answer for him to come in. He steeled himself before entering, expecting the worst.
When Coriolanus walked into your room, you were curled up on your bed, ragged sobs escaping your throat.
Immediately, Coryoâs heart twisted into an ugly knot.
Technically he had seen you cry before, but this was different.
In the past, the only times he had witnessed your tears were when he had said something particularly hilarious and you couldnât help but clutch your sides in joyful, breathless laughter.
These tears though⊠They were real and full of sorrow. Coriolanus hated it. You, the most beautiful being he had ever known, were crying and he hated the way the tears marred your pretty face.
He also felt so, so helpless in a way he never had before, and despised the way your tears affected him.
Coriolanus had always prided himself on his resilience, but now he was left feeling as if the armor he had tried so hard to hide behind was crumbling away.
With an ache in his stomach, he made his way over to you, silently crawling onto your bed and sitting next to you. He opened his arms, which you immediately crawled into. Coriolanus had experienced a bit of a growth spurt, so he was able to rest his head on top of yours as you laid your head on his chest.Â
He rubbed your back as you continued to cry, each sob chipping away at a piece of his heart.
Coryo stayed quiet, knowing you would speak when you were ready. Soon enough, you had calmed down enough to choke out a tearful explanation.
âGinger passed away earlier today.â
Oh. Coryo had hardly even noticed that your dog hadnât been there at the doorway to greet him as usual. He was too concerned with getting to you as soon as possible.
âI am⊠so sorry.â He swallowed, processing the news. âShe was a sweet dog.â
He remembered all of the times you and him would take the beagle out for an evening stroll around the neighborhood. Coryo would always take the excuse to prolong the night, wishing to avoid going back to his rundown house while spending time with you in the process.
The two of you would always stop at the nearby park and take turns throwing Gingerâs favorite chew toy, watching her ears flap as she ran back proudly with the toy in her mouth. As a reward, she would receive the scraps from supper that you would sneak into carefully folded napkins under the table.
Ginger would be missed, that was for sure.
âThe sweetest,â you agreed with a sniffle, lifting your head out of the crook of Coryoâs neck and looking up at him with watery eyes.
The blonde melted and he pressed a soft kiss to your forehead. His shirt had dampened with the tears that fell from your eyes, but he couldnât find it in himself to care.
âI know it hurts, but I promise everything will be okay in time. Take as long as you need to grieve,â Coryo said, reaching over to brush a strand of hair from your face that had been stuck there by your tears. âIâm always here for you, remember?â
It killed Coriolanus that he wasnât able to make everything better with a wave of his hand, but he vowed to help you the best he could. He knew that you needed to process your feelings and emotions in your own time, though, so he didnât want to push you too hard.
âI know,â you said, managing a weak smile as you settled back into your position on his chest, trying to catch your breath. âThank you, Coryo.â
Throughout the next half hour, Coriolanus had managed to make you feel significantly better than before. He talked with you about Tigrisâ newest fashion designs, the latest gossip at school, and your plans for winter break until you were laughing and smiling like usual.
It warmed Coriolanusâ heart to see you happy again, if only just for a little while.
âHey,â he said when the conversation had died down. âWhy donât we do something tomorrow, just the two of us? Anything you like.â
âAnything?â you peered up at him, a hopeful smile falling across your lips.
How could Coriolanus say no to you?
"Anything."
âYouâve never done this before, have you?â
Coriolanus winced as he nearly slipped on the ice, hanging on to the wall of the rink for purchase. He shakily tried to move forward on his skates, only to stumble once more, causing him to grip the wall harder.
The blonde shot you a helpless look. âNo,â he relented with a sigh.
Coriolanus never felt as if he was bad at anything really, and he was embarrassed to have been bested by something as seemingly simple as ice skating.
âThatâs alright,â you smiled, no hint of judgement in your tone. âWould you like to use one of the walkers? They can be useful when youâre just starting out.â
Coryo looked over to where you were pointing. At the rinkâs entrance there were the walkers in question, but the majority of people taking them were either young children or older adults.
âAbsolutely not,â Coryo shook his head, eyes wide. He wanted to keep at least some semblance of his dignity after all.
You couldnât help but chuckle at that. âI didnât think so,â you said, moving so that you were directly in front of him. âHere, I can show you how to do it.â
You first demonstrated the v-shape position of your feet to start, then you pushed off on one of the skates into an easy glide. Moving around the rink for a few paces, you turned around and stopped in front of Coryo again with a wide grin. It was clear how much you enjoyed this, not to mention how easy you made it look.
âSee? Itâs not so hard. Now you try!â
Coryo returned your smile, loosening his grip on the wall. He could do this. Easy. He was Coriolanus Snow, after all.
With still wobbly legs, he finally released his hold on the wall. As he positioned his feet into the place you had demonstrated earlier, he let out a breath he hadnât realized he was holding. He hadnât fallen yet, so he was off to a good start.
Smiling once more at you as you looked eagerly on, he steeled himself and then pushed off with one of his feet, and⊠immediately tripped.Â
âShit,â Coryo threw his arms out, ready to catch himself before he fell to the ground. He didnât, though, as you immediately grabbed him, pulling him upright and leading him back to his previous position against the wall.
Coriolanus let out a sigh, a flush of embarrassment creeping up on his face, mixing with the tint that was already there from the cold.
âIâm sorry,â he frowned at you.
âWhy?â you chuckled. âCoryo, I donât expect you to become a pro immediately. Yâknow, when I first started out I fell, like, five times within the span of twenty minutes.â
âReally?â Coriolanus raised his eyebrows dubiously. You hadnât shown any sign of hesitation earlier, so it was hard to believe there was a time when you werenât so self assured when it came to ice skating.
âReally,â you nodded. âIt just takes some getting used to. How about you give it a few more tries, and if you really donât want to continue, we donât have to. Sound good?â
Coryo looked at the brightness in your eyes and the way you were looking so hopefully up at him. He reminded himself that he was doing this for you, to help you feel better and try to take your mind off things for a while.
âAlright,â he smiled with a nod. âLetâs try this again.â
The few attempts resulted similarly to his first, and each time Coriolanus had the urge to just give up and find someplace warmer to spend the day. But with one look at you and your encouraging smile, the blonde was determined to succeed at least once.
On his latest attempt, Coriolanus found himself pleasantly surprised as instead of stumbling, he was actually moving around the rink. He wasnât moving quickly, but he was still moving with ease. He even managed to bring himself to a stop without falling.
âYou did it, Coryo!â you cheered from where you were watching across the rink, clapping your gloved hands together.
Coryo shot you a wide grin, relishing in your praise as you skated towards him. He opened his mouth, ready to respond, whenâ
Thunk.
The two of you gasped as you barreled into Coryo, too caught up in your excitement to remember to slow down. You both stumbled until you came crashing onto the ground with a thud.
âUgh,â you groaned from your position on top of Coryo. âIâm sorry. Are you okay?â
You both maneuvered yourselves so that the blades of the skates were not in any position to cause damage to each other.
âYeah,â Coryo said, his arms wrapped around you as he cushioned your fall. It hadnât hurt at all, and it was more surprising than anything else. âAre you?â
You nodded. âIâm okay!â
Coryo nodded, silent for a moment before he couldnât help but crack a smile as he peered up at you. The smile then turned into soft chuckle as he watched you bite your lip, trying to hold back laughter. It wasnât long until you were both full on laughing at the position you had found yourselves in. Coryo knew that you probably looked ridiculous lying on the ground laughing your asses off for no apparent reason, but for once he didnât care in the slightest.Â
A few moments later once the laughter had died down, you untangled yourselves and carefully made your way into a standing position. With soft giggles, you brushed yourselves off and readjusted your scarves. Once you were settled, Coriolanus was about to suggest that you try skating around the rink together, when he heard someone clearing their throat.
âExcuse me?â
You both turned to see a girl with auburn hair partially hidden by a light pink knit hat. She appeared to be a couple years older.
âI just wanted to say,â the girl started with a smile, âI think that you two are the cutest couple. I could see it from a mile away.â
âOhââ Coriolanusâ eyes widened at the statement. The suggestion that you were his girlfriend made him blush ever so slightly.
âWeâre just friends,â you beat him to a response.
The blonde shut his mouth, staring at you with a frown tugging at his lips. You were right. Of course you were right. But why did you saying that feel so weird? Like it shouldnât have been the truth.
But it didnât matter, Coryo determined, because you were his best friend and that was an unshakeable truth.
The girlâs smile turned into a bewildered frown at your response. âOh⊠I couldâve sworn,â she said. âWell, anyway, you guys are cute regardless.â
She looked at Coryo, giving him a strange, knowing smile, before saying a quick goodbye and skating off.
Weird.
âThat was funny,â you giggled next to Coryo, drawing his attention back to you. âAnyway, letâs go around the rink for a bit before it gets too late.â
And with that, you took Coryoâs hand and the girlâs statement was shoved down to the depths of his mind as you both skated around together.
In the late afternoon, you found yourselves sipping on hot cocoa inside the ice rink lodge, glad to be warming up next to the fireplace.
âHey, Coryo?â
âHm?â the boy hummed, blowing gently on his cocoa to cool it down some.
âThank you for doing this with me today. I had a lot of fun,â you smiled softly at him, tracing the rim of your cocoa mug with your finger absently.
âOf course,â Coryo returned your smile. âI had fun too. I think I might even be a better skater than you.â
You laughed, rolling your eyes playfully. âWhatever you say, Snow.â
Coriolanus chuckled before turning his attention back to his hot cocoa. He liked the way the heat from the mug warmed up his fingers. He took a sip once it had cooled down sufficiently, humming in satisfaction at the taste.
âI love you, Coryo,â you suddenly said. You said it softly, but there was definite sincerity in your voice.
Coryo swallowed quickly, pulling the mug from his face and looking back at you, eyes wide.
Love.
It was an unspoken word, a feeling that the two of you shared but had never voiced.
Coriolanus had complicated feelings towards the notion of love. He loved his cousin and Grandmaâam, that much was true. But he had also loved his mother, and she had passed ten years ago.
In his eyes, love was a fickle thing that could be used against him. What was the point in loving someone if they were just going to leave and hurt him?
But looking at you, your hair and eyes lit up by the fire, Coriolanus knew. He loved you. He loved you with his entire being and he wasnât afraid to tell you. In this moment, the fact that his love could hurt him didnât matter. All that mattered was that you loved him and he loved you right back.
âI love you too,â Coriolanus said with conviction.
And he always would.

[Age 13]
You had always known that your best friend wasnât as well off financially as yourself. He tried to hide it through his carefully combed hair and always spotlessâalthough wornâclothes, but you could see how desperately Coriolanus tried to fit in with everyone else at school. How desperately he wanted to be acknowledged as someone other than the son of a man who had gambled away his familyâs fortune.Â
None of this mattered to you though. You always chose your friends based on forming a genuine connection with them, and this was no different with Coryo. With Coryo, you felt free to be yourself and say anything that was on your mind. You challenged each other, and knew each other better than anyone else.Â
So no, you didnât care that your friend was considered to be poor, though he frequently tried to hide this fact around you. He was your closest friend, and you couldnât care less about what anyone else thought about his familial background.
Unfortunately for Coriolanus, a lot of other kids didnât share your thoughts on him. In fact, many of them made their views known through frequent teasing when no one was watching at school.Â
Coryo hid it well from you, brushing off your questions whenever you noticed something seemed wrong with him and carefully covering any bruises he received from physical altercations.
It wasnât until you saw it with your own eyes that you found out about the bullying that had previously escaped your notice.Â
The school day had ended and you were on your way to the exit after speaking with one of your teachers for a while, when you heard a crash resounding from one of the locker bays.
Ever the investigator, you couldnât resist going to the source of the noise, but what you found when you reached it made you gasp in horror.
Some of your fellow classmates were all huddled around the lockers, cruel smirks on their faces and jeers coming from their mouths.
In front of them, pushed up against a locker was Coryo. His hair was a mess and his bag was thrown carelessly on the ground next to him as he struggled against the hold of one of your male classmates.
âWhereâd you get that sweater, Snow?â one of the girls, Livia, teased. âDid your girl cousin give it to you?â
âOh no, your pants ripped,â another one said. âToo bad you canât afford another pair.â
Once you recovered from your initial shock at the sight, you stormed towards the group.
âWhat are you doing?â you seethed, fists clenched at your sides.
Looking at Coryo, you watched as the color seemed to drain from your face upon seeing you. It was as if heâd seen a ghost.
âY/N,â he croaked out, making a futile attempt at pushing off the boy who was holding him in place.
âOh, hey,â Livia quipped as if there was nothing wrong with the situation. âJust showing Snow his place here.â
âWhatâs wrong with you?â you snapped. You walked over to where Coryo was, fury evident in your voice as you addressed the boy holding him. âLet go, Urban. Now.â
Urban looked between you and the other girls before reluctantly loosening his grip and stepping back to give Coriolanus room. âWe were just having fun,â he grumbled, looking at Coriolanus in disgust.
You pushed by Urban, not caring that you knocked his arm forcefully in the process.
âCoryo? Are you okay?â You pulled your friend into a hug, feeling the tension throughout him as he hugged you back weakly.
âIâm fine,â Coriolanus said quietly when you let go. He refused to look you in the eyes.
Your eyes roved over him then, checking for any signs of injury. When you looked down to his legs, your anger continued to boil when you saw the evident tear in his pants and his cut, bloodied knee below it.
âYouâre hurt,â you exclaimed. You spun around, eyes full of rage as you looked at the others who were leaning nonchalantly against the wall.
âYou hurt him.â
Livia, the apparent ringleader of the posse, stepped forward, arms crossed.Â
âWhatâs the big deal?â she laughed. âYou know Snow isnât like us, like you. You should be spending your time with people who arenât broke, parentless nobodies.â
Her words made you furious and it took all you had in you to not tackle her and give her a taste of her own medicine.Â
It was then that Coriolanus called your name, pulling you out of your thoughts. âLeave it,â he said. âItâs not a big deal.â
Not a big deal? How could he possibly think that being ridiculed by his classmates wasnât a big deal?
âYou heard him,â Livia taunted. âItâs not a big deal, so why donât you go home andââ
âYou know what, Livia?â you cut her off, stepping towards her dangerously. âYouâre wrong. I am nothing like you. I donât bully other people to hide my own insecurities, and I donât base someoneâs worth on how much money they have. And Coryo is more important than you could ever imagine.
âBut maybe youâre just doing this because youâre struggling with the fact that your father is having an affair with his coworker and you donât know how to deal with the pain.â
It was as if everything was frozen in place as the words left your mouth. Even you were surprised that you had said all of that.Â
You didnât fully understand what the thing you said about Liviaâs dad meant, having overheard your own parents talking about it, but it clearly had a huge effect on Livia.
Her eyes were wide and her mouth fell open in shock. Her face turned the brightest shade of red you had ever seen on a person.Â
Everyone else was also shocked into silence. Liviaâs cronies stared at her in surprise, waiting in anticipation for what she would say next.
Coriolanus was also quiet, but he was looking at you in a mixture of awe and admiration. There was a glint in his eye that hadnât been there moments before, and the corners of his lips were turned upwards ever so slightly.Â
After flashing Coryo a soft, secret smile that the two of you often shared, you decided to take advantage of the silence and speak again.
âListen here, Livia,â you started. âYou and your friends here are going to leave Coryo alone for good. And if you donât, Iâm going to tell the principal about what happened, and you will be punished.â
You so badly wanted to report their actions as soon as possible, but part of you had some sympathy for Livia and her situation. Your empathy would not be tested a second time if they hurt your friend again though.
âFine, whatever,â Livia choked out, tears forming in the corners of her eyes.
With that, she and her friends turned away without sparing a glance back at you and left, allowing you to give your full attention to Coryo.
Now that you were alone, embarrassment seemed to creep up on him. He avoided your gaze as his face began to flush a shade of pink. âI⊠should get going. Iâll see you tomorrow,â he started to walk away, only slightly wincing at the pain of his knee.
You frowned and reached out to grab his arm. âHey, wait. Coryo, youâre hurt. How did they do this to you?â
Coriolanus sighed, knowing that he wasnât going to get out of the questioning easily. You always had the rare ability to get him to open up on topics he wished to avoid.
He shrugged halfheartedly, bringing a hand up to run through his hair. âUrban just⊠kicked me around a little.â
Your frown deepened at the image. âOkay well, let me walk you home. You havenât even stopped bleeding yet.âÂ
Coryoâs eyes widened, shaking his head quickly. âNo,â he immediately shut down the suggestion. âItâs not that far away, and it doesnât even hurt that much.â
You tilted your head to the side, fixing your friend with a serious expression. You could already tell he was lying about the pain level.
âCoriolanus Snow, half of the color has drained from your face,â you stated. âBesides, Iâve still never been to your house.â
You had met his cousin, Tigris, early on in your friendship and she had come along with Coryo several times to your house. In return, Tigris had invited you to the Snow residence on multiple occasions, but Coryo had always given you a reason why it was never a good time.
He had told you a plethora of excuses from his Grandmaâam being sick to the house undergoing renovations, but you were always curious as to what your best friendâs place looked like.
âI really donât thinkââ Coryo started, but then a sharp wave of pain appeared to wash over him and his injured knee buckled instinctively.Â
You clicked your tongue, moving over to support him and starting to walk with him outside. âIâm taking you home. No arguments.â
Coriolanus let out a soft groan, but otherwise remained silent as he accepted his fate and allowed you to lead the way towards his house.
The walk was short and you knew the way as it was very close to your own house. Although you wanted to ask more questions about what had happened to him, you held your tongue and decided on leaving it alone until Coryoâs injury was bandaged up.
Upon reaching his house, you released your hold on him so that he could unlock the door. Once the two of you were inside, you took a moment to glance around. The place was very small compared to yours, and noticeably older. There were marks on the wall where the paint chipped off, and a lot of the furniture was faded and worn down.Â
Despite this, it felt homey to you. It was very different from your place, but to you it was lovely.
âOkay,â Coriolanus said after a second. âI can handle myself from here. You should get home.â
You opened your mouth to protestâyou had just arrived here after allâbut a voice interrupted you.
âY/N, hi!â
You and Coriolanus turned to see Tigris standing at the entrance. She smiled at you both until she looked down and saw the blood trickling down her cousinâs leg.
âCoryo, what happened?â
She rushed over to inspect the injury, kneeling down and peering at it worriedly.
âHeââ you started.
âI tripped and fell on the stairs,â Coryo said quickly. He gave you a pointed look, urging you to go along with it.
Rolling your eyes, you nodded. That boy could be so stubborn sometimes.
âThat seems so unlike you,â Tigris frowned, knowing her cousin was hardly ever clumsy. âNo matter, weâll get you all patched up.â
She went off to get a first aid kit and returned a moment later. She instructed you to stay while she took care of Coryo, and you couldnât help but smirk in triumph at him. He glared back at you, but you both knew it held no malice.
Tigris sat you and Coryo down on a couch in the living room and set to work on his knee. You placed your hand on the boyâs shoulder sympathetically as an ointment was applied to the cut. It most likely stung, but Coryo remained stoic through the pain.Â
Once a bandage had been applied, Tigris brought Coryo a different pair of pants to change into while she worked on repairing the torn ones.
Coryo returned to the living room after changing to see you looking through the photo album that lay on the coffee table.
âThat was taken at the petting zoo,â he said fondly as he sat down next to you again. The photo you were looking at displayed a younger Coryo, Tigris, and their Grandmaâam next to a donkey. âTigris was really scared of the donkey for some reason. You can see tears in her eyes.â
You giggled as you heard Tigris call from another room, âWas not!â
âI donât blame her. It was so much taller than her here,â you said.
âFor the record, I was not scared of it,â Coryo added, causing you to laugh again.Â
âSure you werenât, Coryo.â
Setting the photo album aside, you turned to your friend.
âCoryo, how come you never wanted me to come over here?â
The blonde sighed, nodding slightly like he had expected the question.
âIâŠ,â he swallowed, looking around to make sure Tigris was no longer in hearing range. âI donât know. I think I just feel embarrassed because itâs nowhere near as nice as yours.â
You shook your head. âI disagree. I think your house is great. Itâs really cozy. My house might be bigger, but that doesnât make it any nicer than yours.â
Coriolanus was quiet, contemplating his next words.Â
âYou know I donâtâ My family canât affordââ
âI know.â You nodded and took Coryoâs hands with your own. âIs this why youâve never told me youâve been getting bullied?â
Coriolanus nodded sheepishly. âI was afraid you would see that theyâre right about me.â
âTheyâre not though,â you said earnestly. âTheyâre just narrow-minded and you shouldnât listen to them. Youâre strong, intelligent, and most of all youâre my friend and nothing is ever going to change that.âÂ
A smile crept onto Coryoâs face. He visibly relaxed upon hearing your reassurances.Â
âThatâsâ I appreciate it, really. Thank you,â he said, eyes fond as he watched you.
âWeâre a team, okay? Weâll always be there for each other,â you squeezed Coriolanusâ hands with your own.
âYes,â Coriolanus promised. âAlways.â

Frantic questions were fired rapidly as Patroclus was frozen in place. The flashes of the camera were blinding. There was an uncomfortable ringing in his ears.
What the hell is happening? he thought, finally managing to come out of his trance and look up at the man holding him close.
Achillesâs grip around his waist was unfaltering and to his own shock, Patroclus began to wrap his own arms around the singer, hiding his face in the manâs chest.Â
Achillesâs embrace felt safe. Warm. Soothing.
Rubbing gentle circles around the brunetteâs back, Achilles looked around frantically before his eyes landed on a tall muscular man pushing his way through the crowd.Â
âMove!â the man instructed the group of paparazzi that surrounded Patrolcus and Achilles. Seeing the size and stature of the large man, the crowd parted to make room for him.Â
âAjax,â Achilles said, relief clear on his face.Â
âPelides,â the manâAjaxâsaid, clearly disgruntled by the mob. His eyes shifted downwards to the other man in Achillesâs arms, but he didnât comment on it as he stepped in front of the pair and began to fend off the crowd of eager onlookers. âGet out of here. Iâm right behind you.â
Overwhelmed with the mass of people surrounding him, Patroclus didnât move his head from Achillesâs chest until he felt the blonde lean down to whisper in his ear.
âCâmon, Patroclus. Weâll keep you safe.â
Patroclus reluctantly let go of Achilles, allowing himself to be led through the horde. The blondeâs hand gripped his own tightly as they moved swiftly.
Normally he would be mortified to have grabbed onto someone he had just met so fervently, but at the moment he couldnât even find it in himself to care due to the confusion of the situation.
Eventually, they reached an area clear of paparazzi. It seemed as if Ajax was able to repel them as they escaped. Spotting a sleek black limousine parked close by, Achilles brought Patroclus over to it, opening the back door and guiding him to sit down.
Once they were both safely in the car, Achilles turned to Patroclus, eyes moving over him and checking to make sure he was unharmed.
âAre you okay?â the blonde asked, eyebrows furrowed with worry. âIâm sorry, I didnât think they would be out there. I thought it would be secure in the back exits.â
Patroclus took a few shaky breaths. He had never experienced anything like that before. After a moment of catching his breath, Patroclus nodded. âItâs okay⊠Iâm okay.â
Achilles smiled weakly. âGood. Iâmâ Thatâs⊠good.âÂ
A silence fell between them as they stared at each other, unsure of what to say next.
âAchilles?â Patroclus asked. The singer hummed in response. âWhy⊠Why did you call me your boyfriend?â
In the darkness of the night, Achillesâs cheeks flushed up, his face partially illuminated by a lamppost outside the car.Â
âIââ
His explanation was interrupted as the driverâs seat door opened and Ajax stepped inside the car, sitting down. âAchilles,â the man said.
âAjax!â Achilles jumped slightly at the manâs sudden entrance. âThanks for your help back there.â
Ajax grunted in response, looking at him in the rearview mirror. âItâs what Iâm paid for,â he said dryly. âI thought you would be leaving from the secure exit instead of that one.â
âI was headed over here, but I ran into Patroclus and I was going to walk him out,â Achilles explained, motioning to the brunette beside him.
Ajax nodded, apparently deciding not to question it. âIs he⊠coming with us?â
Patroclus immediately shook his head, eyes wide. âThatâs okay!â he said. âIâll be fine on my own. I should really get home now.â He really didnât want to cause any more trouble for them.Â
Achilles frowned. âAbsolutely not,â he declared. âYou wonât be safe alone now that the paparazzi knows what you look like. Please, Patroclus. Come back to my hotel tonight. Youâll be safe with me, I promise.â
Patroclus hesitated, thinking the words over. Going to the hotel room of a man he just met?
 âI donâtââ he started.
âYouâll have your own bed. Nothing will happen to you,â Achilles chimed in, already sensing Patroclusâs thoughts.
The brunette sighed. He is exhausted from tonightâs activities. And itâll only be one night, right?
âAlright,â Patroclus conceded, âLetâs go.â
Achilles smiled then, and all of Patroclusâs worries seemed to wash away with ease.Â
Ajax started the car and started driving away from the concert venue. The time passed quickly in the silent car ride, and before long they pulled up to a large hotel.
By the looks of it, the hotel was definitely expensive and vastly different from the usual motels that Patroclus had been able to afford.
Achilles and Patroclus stepped out of the car, bidding goodnight to Ajax and walking inside. They stepped into the elevator in the lobby in silence, both men seeming too lost in their own thoughts to speak.
The elevator ride was quick, and once they arrived at their floor, Achilles led Patroclus to the only room on the floor at the end of the hallway. After Achilles unlocked the door with his room key, they stepped in and Patroclus was amazed at the splendor of the room.
The room came with its own fireplace, as well as a full bar and kitchen area. There was also a large patio that looks over the city, and an expansive seating area across from the king size four poster bed.Â
âPatroclus,â Achillesâs voice interrupted the brunetteâs inspection of the room. âIâm sorry.â
Patroclus turned to look at the blonde and he looked⊠nervous, vulnerable.Â
âFor what?â he frowned.
âFor⊠calling you my boyfriend. It just slipped out. Iâm sorry, I didnât mean to put you in the spotlight like that. I panicked.â
Patroclus smiled at him, âItâs okay! Iâm sure theyâll forget about it.â
Achilles stared at him dumbfounded. He really didnât understand?Â
âPatroclus, itâs not that easyââ
âIâm kinda tired,â the other man said, stifling a yawn. Blissfully unaware of the situation theyâve found themselves in.Â
Achilles continued to look at him with a frown. âOkay,â he said finally. He moved over to one of his suitcases and dug around for a moment before pulling out a t-shirt and pajama bottoms. âThese are clean, and thereâs an unused toothbrush on the counter.â
Patroclus thanked him with a soft smile, taking the items and heading to the bathroom. After washing his face and brushing his teeth, he changed into the clothes Achilles gave him. They were clearly big on him, but unbelievably soft.Â
When he came back out to the main room Achilles was laying on the sofa with his computer on his lap, staring intently at something on the screen.
Patroclus cleared his throat, grabbing the manâs attention. âI can sleep on the sofa since thereâs only one bed.âÂ
Achilles immediately shook his head, sitting up to look at him. âAbsolutely not. Take the bed, Iâm fine here on the sofa.â
âIâ Okay, fine,â Patroclus agreed, too tired to argue. By the look on the blondeâs face, it seemed like it wouldnât have worked anyway.
âGood,â Achilles smiled. âGoodnight, Patroclus.â
âGoodnight, Achilles.â
As Patroclus crawled into bed and the lights flicked out, his exhaustion took over and he fell asleep quickly.
In the morning, Patroclus awoke slowly. His eyes adjusted to the morning light and he looked around, gradually remembering the events of last night. He looked over to the nightstand next to him and located his phone, which had apparently been plugged in to charge by Achilles when he slept.
When he scrolled through his notifications, his eyes widened in realization.
11 missed calls. 8 texts.
He had forgotten to tell Briseis and Nikolaos what had happened last night.
Unlocking his phone and opening the group chat he had with his two friends, he began to read through the texts they had sent him.Â
Briseis:
>> Patroclus, where are you?
Nikolaos:
>> Weâre at the car dude. Did you get lost?
Briseis:
>> Are you okay?
Nikolaos:
>> DUDEÂ
Nikolaos:
>> We just read the news. You MET Achilles???
Briseis:
>> And he referred to you as his boyfriend??
Nikolaos:
>> From the looks of it, you two left together. Holy shit, Patroclus. Have fun, use protection! ;)
Briseis:
>> Just please be safe, Patroclus. Call or text us back in the morning so we know youâre okay.Â
Patroclus quickly sent a text back. He would have plenty of time to tell them what happened last night once he was back home and he and Achilles have parted ways.
Patroclus:
<< Iâm okay, guys. Nothing happened with Achilles. Iâll explain more when Iâm home later.
Once the message was sent, Patroclus shut off his phone and made his way out of bed. Looking around, Achilles was nowhere to be found. Upon further inspection, he noticed a note written in neat, swooping letters placed on the coffee table across from the sofa the blonde had slept on.
Gone out to get something. Be back soon!
xx Achilles
P.S. Your clothes are freshly laundered!
Smiling at the kind gesture, Patroclus found the clothes folded neatly upon the table and took them into the bathroom to get ready for the day.
Just as soon as he stepped out of the bathroom after getting ready and changing clothes, the door to the hotel room clicked open and Achilles came in with his arms full of paper bags.
The blondeâs eyes widened when he spotted Patroclus and an easy grin fell across his face.
âGood morning!â he said happily. âI brought breakfast!â
Achilles set the bags on the kitchen counter and waved Patroclus over to sit down. Once Patroclus was comfortably seated, the blonde began to pull out various containers of pastries and fruits.
âThereâs a cute cafĂ© nearby so I got scones, muffins, croissants, and some fruit,â he said, beaming at Patroclus. âOhâ Youâre not allergic to anything, are you?â
Patroclus shook his head with amusement. âNo, Iâm not. You really didnât have to get all of this.â
âI wanted to. Besides, I was feeling pretty hungry after last night anyway.â Achilles pulled two coffee cups from one of the paper bags. âDo you like coffee?â
âLove it,â Patroclus smiled.
âGood!â Achilles set out a handful of sugar packets and creamers. âI wasnât sure how you take it, so I got a bunch of these.â
âThank you, Achilles,â Patroclus said, beginning to dish up some of the food. âI appreciate it.â
Achilles smiled proudly at him, and Patroclus couldnât help but think that the singer and his actions were adorable.
They both helped themselves to the food and ate in comfortable silence for a while, until Achillesâs phone chimed in his pocket.
Pulling it out, Achilles looked at who was calling him and groaned when he read the name.Â
âIs everything alright?â Patroclus asked, pausing in his eating to look at the blondeâs frown and furrowed eyebrows.
âYeah,â Achilles sighed. âKeep eating, Iâll be back in a minute.â
Patroclus watched Achilles walk out onto the patio and close the door. He knew he shouldnât be nosy, but he couldnât help but pay attention to the muffled tone of frustration the singer had whilst talking to the person on the phone. Achilles paced around the patio for a few minutes before hanging up the phone call and heading back inside.
Patroclus quickly focused back on his food in hopes that the singer didn't notice that he was being observed during his phone conversation. When Achilles returned to his seat next to Patroclus, his facial expression was neutral. A calm façade.
âWhen youâre done here, we need to go to the record company for a meeting with my colleagues,â he said.
âOh?â Patroclus tilted his head to the side quizzically. âI thought I would be going home after breakfast.â
âI know. Iâm really sorry about all of this. Excuse me, I need to work on something before we leave.â Achilles stood, returning to his spot on the sofa and beginning to type away on his laptop while Patroclus was left to wonder what had made the man so sullen.
Around thirty minutes later, the pair were back in the limousine with Ajax driving. Achilles had barely spoken a word since they left, and the air was full of tension as they pulled up to a large skyscraper in a busy part of Athens. Patroclus had been to Athens a few times, and it was astounding compared to his hometown of Artemida, where the concert had taken place.
Ajax escorted them inside and Patroclus and Achilles got into the elevator in the lobby, the latter pressing the button for the top floor.Â
Once they stepped out, they were met with several office rooms with people bustling around completing their assigned tasks. Walking up to one of the rooms near the back, Achilles steeled himself before knocking on the door.
âCome in,â a voice from inside called out.
Patroclus and Achilles stepped inside, and a man with dark curly hair and a thick beard to match looked up from his desk to greet them.Â
âOdysseus,â Achilles said stiffly.
âAchilles,â the man greeted, choosing to ignore the blondeâs cold acknowledgement. His eyes landed on the brunette beside him. âAnd you must be our new star. Youâve caused quite a stir since last night.â
Patroclus shifted nervously where he stood. âPatroclus, sir. Itâs nice to meet you.â
âCall me Odysseus,â the man responded, reaching out with both hands to grip Patroclusâs hand. âIâm this troublemakerâs chief manager.â Odysseus nodded to Achilles, who hummed low in his throat.
âLetâs just get this over with, yeah?â Achilles said, already walking out the door.
Odysseus gestured kindly for Patroclus to exit, unphased by the singerâs abruptness. âAfter you, Patroclus.â
Patroclus smiled in thanks and left, watching Achilles walk towards a large office at the very back of the floor.
Surely the meeting canât be that bad, he thought, curious as to what made the golden haired man so tense.
Achilles didnât even bother to knock before he entered the office, Patroclus and Odysseus following him inside.
Patroclusâs eyes immediately landed on the two people sitting behind a large desk full of paperwork. They both looked displeased, to say the least. Both their mouths were set in a thin, straight line as they regarded the blonde.
âAchilles, how nice of you to join us,â the man sitting in the center said.
âNot like I had a choice,â Achilles huffed.
The attention of the people seated at the desk shifted slowly to Patroclus, who cleared his throat and swayed slightly where he was standing. He suddenly felt very self conscious about his appearance compared to those in front of him. The woman was wearing a sharp blouse and jacket, while the man wore a neatly pressed suit. He didnât exactly have any options when getting dressed this morning, but he felt out of place in his ripped jeans and large t-shirt.Â
âUm, hi!â he said after what felt like an eternity of silence. âMy name isââ
âPatroclus,â the woman spoke. Her voice was sharp and without any warmth. âPlease, sit down, all of you.â
The three men followed her instructions and took a seat in the leather armchairs placed across from the desk.Â
âPatroclus,â the man at the desk said. âMy name is Agamemnon, and I am the owner of Mycenae Records. This,â he gestured to the woman beside him, âis Thetis. Mr. Pelidesâs other manager.âÂ
âMy mother,â Achilles murmured to Patroclus.
This was his mother? They seemed like a complete contrast to each other. Golden hair, tanned skin, and a radiant smile compared to deep black tresses, a pale complexion, and a stern expression.Â
The woman regarded Patroclus with a soul searching gaze. As if she was trying to figure out the appeal of him. The brunette averted his eyes and fiddled with the hem of his shirt under her harsh stare. Luckily for him, Agamemnon spoke again and the attention was momentarily shifted away.
âWell, letâs just get right into it, shall we?â
Achilles crossed his arms and nodded as if to say, if we must.
âPelides,â Agamemnon started, âIt seems you couldnât wait to cause more trouble for us.â He nodded towards Patroclus, who flushed guilty in turn. âBecause of the little stunt you pulled last night, the media has been blowing up about your new âboyfriendâ.â
Achillesâs cheeks gained the softest shade of pink, but he remained silent as the bearded man continued.
âNow, if my memory serves me correctlyâwhich I know it doesâI believe that Thetis and I had told you that we would be setting you up with a suitable match. Deidameia, to be precise.â
Patroclus frowned, looking at Achilles in confusion, who didn't return his glance. What was this man talking about? Who was Deidameia?
âThis plan has unfortunately been put on the back burners now because of your revelation about this boy,â Thetis added.
Boy? Patroclus thought. Iâm twenty-three years old.
Thetis regarded Patroclus with an expression of pure disgust and disappointment, which made Patroclus want to crawl deep in a hole and never come out. He sank down slightly in his chair and stared down at his lap in shame.Â
Why does she hate me already?
âHey,â Achilles sat up straighter and clenched his jaw as he addressed his mother. âThis is not Patroclusâs fault. I dragged him into this, so blame me.â
Sensing the fight that threatened to break out, Odysseus spoke up for the first time since entering the room. âLetâs all calm down,â he said, gripping the singerâs arm lightly as if to pull him back at a momentâs notice. âRegardless of whose fault the situation is, I believe you were going to discuss an alternative plan, Agamemnon?â
Thetisâs affronted look shifted back into that of neutrality, and Agamemnon nodded curtly when Achilles seemed to calm down, moving his arm out of Odysseusâs hold.
âYes,â Agamemnon cleared his throat. âSince Mr. Pelidesâs proclamation about Patroclus cannot be undone, we have decided that it is best that we put his pairing with Deidameia on hold. Instead, we will have Patroclus accompany Mr. Pelides on his tour, which will start the day after tomorrow. During this time, we will continue the illusion that the two are dating through planned dates and public appearances. We canât have people thinking that Mr. Pelides is an unreliable partner if we have him break up with Patroclus right away. When the time is right, we will break off the relationship between the two, and Mr. Pelides will then enter a more beneficial relationship with Deidameia.â
âWhat?â Patroclus exclaimed once Agamemnon had finished speaking. He couldnât have a fake relationship with a man he just met last night. A famous man, at that. âIâ I canât go on tour with him. I have a life, I have a job.â
âAh, yes,â Agamemnon nodded. âYour work at the hospital, correct?â
Patroclus nodded his confirmation. âHow did youâŠâ
âI have connections,â the bearded man said with a dismissive wave of his hand. âWith regards to your job, I have already spoken with your superiors and they have agreed to give you enough time off for you to attend the tour with Achilles. Paid time off.â
The brunette nodded hesitantly. If he agreed to this, at least he wouldnât have to worry about being able to pay rent, and Briseis having to fend for herself. But stillâ
âCan I talk to you?â Patroclus turned to Achilles, who looked uncertain at Agamemnonâs plan, but as if he had somewhat expected it.Â
Achilles eyed Patroclus carefully before nodding. The two men exited the room and found a secluded corner, where Patroclus started talking.
âDid you know they were going to suggest this? Is that why you seemed so upset when you were on the phone?â
Achilles sighed, running a hand through his hair. âNo,â he said. âI mean, not for sure. I knew they had some plan involving you when Odysseus called me earlier, but I didnât know exactly what it would be. Iâm not really surprised though. They love coming up with things like this and controlling my life.â
âOh,â Patroclus responded, feeling a vague pang of disappointment in his stomach. Was Achilles upset that it was him who had been chosen for this fake relationship? Did he regret calling him his boyfriend last night?
Catching onto the other manâs feelings, Achillesâs eyes widened a fraction and he shook his head. âI didnât want you to have to deal with this. I⊠I wouldâve wanted it to be different with you in any other situation. You donât have to do this, but⊠I would enjoy your company, Patroclus.â
Patroclus tilted his head to the side, observing the blonde carefully. His expression was so open and honest. So far, heâd seemed nothing like the things Briseis had heard about him. Nothing like his mother, who was cool and uncaring in the office.
The man before him was radiant and gorgeous. He seemed to capture the sun in all its glory and Patroclus thought that maybe this man could give him all the fun and adventure he seemed to have been missing all his life.Â
âOkay,â Patroclus took a deep breath. âLetâs do this.â

âSinging Sensation Achilles Caught in Bar Fight With Troy Band Member, Hectorâ
âSpoiled or Successful? Achillesâs Reckless Actions Have Fans Questioningâ
The article titles were projected onto the large screen in the dimly lit conference room. A click resounded in the otherwise quiet atmosphere and the slide changed to a selection of comments.
flowerfields23: Honestly not surprised. He always seemed to have too much of an ego.
troy4ever: that guy is so overrated. definitely needs to be knocked down a peg or two. i just hope hector isnât hurt :(Â
willowtree: he has an amazing voice and is super talented, but heâs been acting way too wildly lately
kaoriii: ^^ agreed! i miss the way he was at the start of his careerâŠÂ
The screen shut off after a moment and the lights flicked back on, breaking the silence within the room. Achilles blinked as his eyes adjusted to the sudden brightness.
Before him sat two people, both of which had deep frowns set upon their faces. Achilles went to speak, but was cut off just as soon as he opened his mouth.
âDonât,â one of them, a woman with long dark hair, hissed, causing Achilles to snap his mouth shut.
The other one in the room, an older bearded man, began to speak. âAchilles,â he started slowly, âI have had many musical talents come through Mycenae Records, all of which have gone on to have successful careers. As the founder and owner of this company, I have an esteemed reputation to uphold. One that your actions will not tarnish.â
âAgamemnonââ A sharp look caused Achilles to backtrack, resisting the urge to roll his eyes. âSir, it wasnât my fault. You know how Hector is.â He knew he sounded like a petulant child, but he was too frustrated to care.
âIt doesnât matter whose fault it was. You still should have handled yourself with more dignity,â the dark haired woman chimed in.
âThetis is right,â Agamemnon said before Achilles had a chance to respond. âThis isnât the first instance of your rebellious outbursts either. You havenât been showing up to practice and recording sessions, you havenât written a new song in ages. You seem to favor going to nightclubs and raucous parties instead. You ought to be ashamed of yourself!âÂ
Achilles bristled at the words. âI come to enough practices, and itâs not like Iâve run out of talent. The fans still love me.â
âDo they? Because according to these comments, theyâve been having doubts. Sales of your music have been decreasing since youâve been acting so recklessly. You have an upcoming tour, and it wonât do to have lost so many followers because of your mistakes.
âBecause of this, your mother and I have worked out a plan to ensure your continued success,â Agamemnon continued speaking. âWe believe that setting you up with a partner will ease peoplesâ worries surrounding your career. If they see you as a caring and devoted boyfriend, then they will surely realize that you have turned a new leaf, and left your rebellious phase behind.â
âWhat?â the golden haired man turned to Thetis in shock. âMother, is he serious? This is unnecessary.â
âYes, Achilles. We believe that this will be the best course of action to undo the damage that you are causing.â The woman looked calm in the face of her sonâs irritation. âWeâve discussed potential partners who would benefit us. The girl from the Scyros label, Deidameia, is a fantastic option. Both of our companies would benefit from the pairing.â
Achilles scoffed. His father would never have approved of this if he were still alive. Ever since his mother took over as one of Mycenae Recordsâ managers, both she and Agamemnon had been working him harder than ever before. Nevermind his own personal goals and happiness.Â
âThis is unbelievable,â Achilles muttered. âA fake relationship just to make the press happy? How clichĂ©.â
âThis topic is not under discussion. Our decision is final. We will arrange plans to launch the relationship before you begin your tour,â the bearded man said, gathering his papers together and beginning to stand.
With a huff, Achilles stood. Fists clenched, brows furrowed, he marched towards the exit. Without sparing the others in the room any last glance he left, the door slamming shut behind him.
He would not be making this easy for them.
âGuess what?â
The front door to Patroclusâs apartment flew open and footsteps hurriedly approached Patroclus as he sprawled along the sofa, book in hand.
The man took a moment to finish the sentence he had been reading, eyes roaming the page for a moment before he marked his spot and looked up at the visitor.Â
âNikolaos,â Patroclus greeted his dark blonde haired friend. âWhatâs up?â
It was then that Patroclusâs roommate, Briseis, walked out, using a towel to dry her damp hair. âWhatâs going on?â she questioned as her eyes landed on the tall blonde. âOh, hey Nikolaos.â
âGood! Youâre both here,â their friend grinned, walking over to guide Briseis to the sofa. Nikolaos gently pushed Patroclusâs legs down so that he was in a sitting position to make room for Briseis to sit.Â
A phone was thrust into the roommatesâ faces. They exchanged a questioning look and then turned their attention to the screen in front of them. The page that Nikolaos had opened appeared to be a purchase confirmation for three concert tickets. Upon further inspection, the musician for the concert appeared to beâ
âAchilles?â Briseis read aloud.
âYep! It took ages waiting in the queue to get these, but I got one for me, you, and Patroclus!âÂ
Patroclus looked at his friend standing in front of him. He had heard a few of the musicianâs songs and he had to admit the man had talent, but he didnât consider himself a huge fan. He knew that Achilles is a very famous singer though, and Nikolaos was clearly ecstatic at having secured the tickets.
âI donât knowâŠ,â Patroclus trailed off in thought. The concert scene was never really his forte.
âIâm really happy for you for getting these, Nik, but Iâm not sure. I mean, Iâve heard Achilles has quite the ego, and that heâs been pretty unruly as of late,â Briseis said.
Nikolaos pouted, looking between the two seated in front of him. âCâmon guys, his music is great! And you shouldnât believe everything you hear online.â He then turned to speak directly to Patroclus. âItâd be a nice break from the hospital too! Youâve been working way more shifts than I have, Pat. You deserve a break.â
Patroclus sighed, considering.
Briseis looked at her friend, biting her lip. Nikolaos was right, Patroclus had been working himself to death at his nursing job. Since he was newly out of university, it seemed like his superiors had been pawning off all of their dirty work onto him. She didnât like seeing her best friend so exhausted nearly every day of the week.
âHeâs right, Pat. Maybe it would be nice to get out and do something fun for once. Achilles does have pretty good music, and it's not like weâll actually run into the guy.â
Patroclus was silent for a moment before nodding with a soft smile. âAlright⊠Letâs go.â They were right, he desperately needed a break and to have fun with his friends.
âYes!â Nikolaos exclaimed, pumping his fist in the air in success. He pulled both of his friends into a hug, evoking an âOomph!â from Patroclus and a chuckle from Briseis. âIâll pick you guys up around eight tonight!âÂ
Without waiting for a response, the blonde skipped out the apartment door, leaving his friends in anticipation for the night to come.
By the time eight oâclock rolled around, Patroclus was dressed in black distressed skinny jeans and an oversized white tee shirt that showed off his collarbones. Normally this wasnât his outfit of choice, but Briseis had convinced him to step out of his comfort zone. She even managed to put on a touch of eyeliner, making his eyes stand out beautifully.
It wasnât long before Nikolaos drove up to their apartment and the three arrived at the concert venue. The entire stadium was packed, and the excitement was palpable as they made their way through the crowds and towards their seats.Â
âBy the way, Pat,â Briseis shouted over the noise once they reached their seats, âYou look hot. Maybe Achilles will notice you.â She gave her friend a nudge and a teasing eyebrow wiggle, to which Patroclus looked away sheepishly. He was thankful that the dark lighting of the stadium concealed the heat that rose in his cheeks.
âOh, shush,â he playfully swatted at Nikolaos who had started cackling at Briseisâs jest. âHey, I think the concert is starting!â
He seemed to be right, as the lights darkened almost fully, and the buzz of excitement grew quieter throughout the venue as everyone turned to watch the stage in anticipation.
Right on cue, the opening beats of one of Achillesâs most popular songsâChrysafĂ©niosâstarted to play softly, before increasing in volume. Cheers from the audience rang throughout the venue as the lights on stage flashed along with the beat. Before long, Achilles appeared from a platform that had been raised in the middle of the stage, causing the crowd to become even louder.
As the singer started singing the first few lines, the large screens to the sides of the stage zoomed in on his face.
Patroclus looked at the man on the screen and his eyes widened ever so slightly. He looked⊠angelic. Golden locks that fell delicately around his face, chiseled features, and eyes the color of sea glass. He looked as if he were sculpted by the gods themselves.
Patroclus had never paid much attention to the singerâs appearance before, only seeing the occasional picture or two in a news article. Admittedly, the man was gorgeous and Patroclus could understand how he has obtained such a devoted fanbase.Â
Eventually, he managed to pull his gaze away from the closeup of Achilles and instead focus on the music.
Even the manâs voice is ethereal, seamlessly hitting every note. It almost sounded exactly the same as the studio recording of the song. Although, Patroclus couldnât help but notice a certain⊠edge to his voice. Almost as if he was⊠angry?
Looking Achilles over on the screen again, Patroclus didnât miss the subtle furrow of his eyebrows and the fire in his eyes. Maybe he was wrong and the man wasnât actually irritated, but something still seemed off to him. After a minute of thought, Patroclus shrugged off the idea, chalking it up to theatrics for performance sake.
The time flew by quickly, and nearly two hours later, the concert ended with Achilles bowing and thanking the crowd for their continued support with a charming grin. He also mentioned his upcoming tour, which would start in a few days and be held over a few months. Patroclus recalled Nikolaos excitedly rambling about the tour when it was first announced, determined to snag seats to one of the shows.Â
âWell,â Nikolaos said with a wide smile, âWhatâd you guys think? Heâs great, huh?â
âHeâs actually pretty good!â Briseis agreed.
âHeâs very talented,â Patroclus added as they made their way out of their seats and towards the front of the stadium to leave. âI didnât know that Achilles had such a variety of styles in his music.â
The setlist had contained songs from several genres ranging from pop, to fast paced rock, to soft indie ballads. The man sure had range.Â
âRight? Heâs amazing,â Nikolaos gushed. âOh, crap!â As they rounded the corner his eyes landed on the merchandise booth that had been set up. âI forgot to stop by the merch table earlier, I was so excited! We have to get something.â
âYou guys go ahead,â Patroclus said, eyeing the amount of people who were rushing to get their hands on Achilles memorabilia. âIâll head outside and wait for you.â He wasnât particularly excited to stand in a long queue with so many people for who knows how long.
âOk!â the blonde responded, already pulling Briseis towards the merch line. âYou want anything?â
Patroclus shook his head. As beautiful as the golden haired singer was, he would feel too embarrassed to wear a shirt with the manâs face on it in public. Nikolaos gave him a thumbs up and Briseis playfully rolled her eyes at his enthusiasm as she was led away.
Chuckling to himself, Patroclus began to look for an exit. Given that the exits at the front of the building were already packed, he elected to find a way out in the back.
After a few minutes of walking through somewhat empty hallways, Patroclus breathed a sigh of relief as he spotted a clear exit. Itâd be nice to be able to leave without having to fight his way through throngs of passionate fans.
Just as he was about a foot away from the door, he gasped as someone crashed into him, dropping their phone in the process.
âOh, Iâm sorry!â the person exclaimed. âI wasnât looking, got distracted.â
Patroclus immediately reached down to grab the strangerâs phone. âItâs okay! I wasnât looking either, Iââ He stopped in his profuse apology, mouth falling open at the sight in front of him.
Achilles.
If it was even possible, the man seemed even more radiant and gorgeous than before as he stood in front of him. The singerâs eyes were wide with concern, and his soft pink lips were parted ever so slightly. Once the golden haired man was sure that Patroclus wasnât hurt at all by their clashing, his eyes softened and a pleasant smile graced his lips.
Wordlessly, Patroclus handed Achilles his phone. He blinked a few times, looking up at the golden haired man before him. He considered himself a relatively tall person, but the singer still managed to give him pause as he observed his stature.
A blush fell across Patroclusâs cheeks as he realized that he was staring. âSorry,â he managed to say. âIâm going to go now.â His hand reached to the doorknob, beginning to turn it, when the blonde reached out and placed his own hand on top.
âWait.â
Patroclus halted. Curious eyes roved over the blonde singer once more.
âWhat was your name again?â Patroclus hadnât even given it in the first place.
âPatroclus,â the brunette choked out.
âPatroclus,â Achilles tested it out. Pa-tro-clus. The name rolled off his tongue easily, as if it were meant to be said by him, and him alone. âIâm Achilles.â His eyes wandered swiftly over the man before him.Â
Patroclus nodded, looking to where the manâs hand sat atop his own. âI know who you are.â
Achilles removed his hand slowly. âA fan?â he asked, lips quirking up once more in a charming smile.
âNo,â Patroclus said quickly, eyes widening when he realized how that sounded. âI mean, yes! Well, Iâve heard a few of your songs. I just came here with a couple of my friends. Not that I didnât want to come to begin with!â His mouth snapped shut before he could continue babbling on.Â
He wasnât usually this talkative.
A laugh bubbled up from Achillesâs throat, and Patroclus absently thought it sounded almost as beautiful as the music he heard tonight.
âPatroclus.â Pa-tro-clus. âI understand. I appreciate your support.â His smile showed his teeth now, pearly white and without flaw.
âOf course,â Patroclus said, managing a gentle upturn of his lips in return. âI should go now. My friends will be waiting for me.â He knew that they were definitely still going through the merch line, but he couldnât bear the awkwardness of the situation heâd found himself in. âItâs been great meeting you. I enjoyed your concert.â
âYou have to leave so soon?â Achilles frowned, and Patroclusâs heart fluttered traitorously in his chest when he saw the puppy dog eyes the blonde was giving him. âWell, at least let me walk you out.â
Patroclus agreed, and allowed the singer to open the door he had tried to exit through earlier.
Immediately upon their exit, they were met with the flash of what felt like a thousand camera lights, and shouts that rang through Patroclusâs ears. Instantly, Achilles wrapped his arm around the otherâs waist protectively.Â
âAchilles!â one voice shouted. âHow was the concert?â
âAchilles!â another one. âWhat do you have to say about your fight with Hector?â
Cameras clicked, lights flashed. As if in sync, the mob caught onto the other unfamiliar man alongside the singer.Â
âWho is this with you, Achilles?â
Achillesâs grip tightened around Patroclus. A practiced grin met the camerasâ flashes.Â
âThis is my boyfriend,â the words fell out of the singerâs lips.Â
Wait, Patroclus froze, What?!
