actually nobody prepares you for how Embarrassing sniffing someone else's clothes is. like it's so deliberate and you have to make sure you're alone And you have to pick it up AND bring it to your face to sniff like . thats a lot of steps !!! theres so many steps for u to stop and reconsider. and yet. and yet ...
Me: Exercise does not cause weight loss. This is a fact that has been demonstrated so robustly in research that even doctors, who hate and fear evidence, are grudgingly starting to admit this.
Someone reading that post: Cool, but have you considered that exercise leads to weight loss?
Me: I am going to eat you
lololol "does too"
does it? not for women after childbirth
does it? not if you want to see an effect size of greater than 1 kilo (2.2lbs)
does it? not if you'd like to see a maintained loss greater than 3.3% of your body weight
does it? not for people with type 2 diabetes
does it? not for people exercising for their non-alcoholic fatty liver disease
Interactive computer-based reminders to diet and exercise are useless.
I mean, I literally went to Cochrane Reviews, one of the best-respected sources for massive meta-analyses, and I just input the keywords "weight loss" and "exercise," and I'm tooling through the results. Every one of the damn things shows that we do not have high-quality research indicating that exercise leads to weight loss. So no. I'm right, and you need to adjust your worldview--ask yourself, if not for weight loss, then why? Re-read those sources: exercise improved muscle density, insulin sensitivity, and cholesterol. It's good for your blood vessels, it's good for your strength, it's good for your brain.
But it won't make you thin. Maybe two pounds, maybe five, but that's about it. If you're looking at short-term, like a year, sure, you can lose weight--but the effort will almost always result in your body going "oh shit, we're living in a famine" and you will regain it, and now, with your body at a new set-point, losing it will be harder. Regaining will be easier. Welcome to the life-destroying yo-yo.
#then what the fuck are we supposed to do?
Exercise and eat lots of fruits and vegetables and whole grains because those things will keep you healthier longer, regardless of how much you weigh, and pick up your pick-axe in the ongoing horribly slow and frustrating fight of chipping away at the idea that being fat is a bad thing that means you’re a bad person. I recommend the book Fat Talk for a good place to start.
hey remember when you were feeling anxious, frustrated, panicked, whatever that emotion was, and then
you set a timer for 30 minutes and stretched and worked out aerobically? and while the core struggle isn't gone, it didn't feel so scary anymore?
this is your reminder that it helped. you should probably do it again, and give yourself a sticker about it

reading about serial killers in the 1800s and they had female incels I guess
hey everyone saying I just don't understand marriage was important for women's survival in the 1800s. I still don't think she had to be a serial killer as a result if i'm being honest. I think you may have skipped the serial killer part
wait real. if I didn't have this damn phone i'd start killing too probably

when people go home for the fourth of july that’s when my brain goes, “oh, you actually like your family. interesting” & I have to walk it back because although it’s a surprisingly reliable metric it’s not perfect. and honestly, not a very fun way to look at the world. anyway fuck this place
ok i've tested it again and it's official. for me, the lasting after-effect of doing shrooms is heightened anxiety. not increased mental clarity or insight or calm or putting shit in perspective or any of that bullshit that other people get and benefit from.
the lesson the mushrooms taught me during this trip was the exact same lesson that it taught me last time -- that i'm already operating on a level of hyper self-awareness and obsessive reflection about the motives and perspectives of others as my baseline, and so i do not benefit from mushrooms being able to lift me up and give me a full 360 degree view of myself and everyone around me. i'm already processing reality that way all of the time, and it is debilitating. and of course, what i am experiencing as a detailed 360 map of social reality is really just a projection created by my own insecurities and biases, not objective fact, and so thinking so obsessively about the interiority of other people and myself is doing nothing but harming me.
basically the mushrooms just made me even more analytical and detached than I already am, which weed tends to do too, and no substance is gonna fix me because all they can do is alter the experience of having the brain i already have, and the brain cannot think itself out of problems that it already created. you cant think your way out of a problem that manifests in your behavior, you have to change your behavior instead.
im so jealous of people who take psychedelics and have a sudden epiphany and then no longer have a spider phobia or heal their body image or whatever. lucky bitches
