I was just...so sad to hear about the turn of events for this sequel. Like 2020 was so shit for so many people (myself included) and when I heard that Inuyasha was getting a sequel?? I literally jumped up out of my bed and screamed. Inukag baby?! Sign me TF up!!! I had so many high hopes for this series, but in the back of my head I had a feeling that they would do something like this. Just looking at Setsuna and Towa, I feel like I already knew but didn’t want to acknowledge it. I wish I could take the L on this. And on top of that, from a storytelling perspective the plot is just makes no damn sense. And it really grinds my fucking gears that Moroha (the daughter of the two main protags in the original series!!!) is treated like some slapstick side character. Myoga has more dignity in this show than she does!! And the failure to properly explain things but then making a special just to explain it all that is separate from the series at large is just bullshit writing at its finest. I really feel like I’m watching a glorified fanfiction right now. But I can’t look away, I feel like I want to keep watching to see how bad this train wreck gets. And me personally I am happy to give this the Boruto treatment: pretending that it doesn’t exist and continue to find comfort in the OG series.

This Yashahime shit is so ugly like... we were all just sitting here minding our business and enjoying the very specific versions of IY that lived in our heads. Creating gay fanart for an extremely niche audience of like 3 people. Giving justice to characters like Kikyou and Kagura who died without getting the freedom they strived for. Literally minding our own business. And then Takahashi and Sunrise said "what if we made a blatant cash-grab of a sequel" and ruined all of it

personally i feel like none of us (those of us who are anti sessrin i mean) should feel like we fucked up because we were played by a company that ten years after the finale they decided to fuck up the reputation of the series, retroactively and irreparably. the fault is squarely on the creator, producers, everyone involved to take the series it in this direction, so i say cut yourself some slack because you deserve it! you didn’t contribute to this, you shouldn’t put any blame on yourself (tho trust me i’m still trying to pretend i didn’t waste my time with the series either)

the only reason i don’t want to delete anything just yet is because i really REALLY did enjoy my time with my friends here talking about a series i think we all can admit was not the greatest but we all projected something into it to keep it alive and make it more than what it was, like we gave these characters such depth where there was none, so i’d hate to erase all those memories right now

but i do know going forward i won’t make anymore inuyasha content. not even if i pretend the sequel doesn’t exist. i won’t try to salvage this mess because it’s unsalvageable to me. i want to throw it out and not look back to reread it or support it in any way with merch or whatever, they made it very clear where their standards lie and it conflicts with mine far too much to call myself a fan of the series anymore
