mitsuki had been... off, for a while. when konohamaru approached him after the other two had already gone off on their way home, the serpent boy knew it was because he'd noticed too. there's a quiet for a few moments after the accursed ‘what's up?’ was asked, && mitsuki speaks nervously when he responds, "why are you so nice to me? i know lord seventh told you everything. you don't have to pretend."
If you asked Konohamaru if he'd ever grow accustomed to the kids and notice when something was wrong, he would have denied it fast. Granted Boruto and Sarada were both very easy to read, with Mitsuki being the hardest, buf something was grabbing his attention. In some way, the boy seemed more quiet than usual, unresponsive to Boruto's antics. As the two went off home, that was when he decided would be the best time to ask.
And the response...well. Put him off guard. "Pretend..?" He asks, it dies in his lips that soon change from a frown, to a soft smile. "Is that what's troubling you Mitsuki?" Carefully Konohamaru kneels down to his level, a hand on his student's shoulder so they can look eye to eye. "It's true, your parent Orochimaru did some terrible things, but I don't hate you for it."
"We aren't our parents, and even if they do things to make others angry or sad, it shouldn't affect the children. What I see in you, Mitsuki, is a talented boy who I am very proud to call ny student. You see? That's not pretend. It's how I really feel in my heart. Lord Seventh entrusted not only Boruto and Sarada to me, but also you, and I'll do anything for you three." And with that said, he pulls him in for a quick hug.
"I'm proud to be your Sensei Mitsuki. That is my honest truth."
