so was anyone gonna tell me furudate, the author of haikyuu, has never shown their human skin in public and has declined to state their gender
which makes it highly likely (considering how sexist the shounen field is) that furudate is a woman
was no one going to tell me that during the time furudate had to have attended high school, the school only had a girls' volleyball club
English translations have wronged me so so much. Korean twitter already knew. It was only today that I found out, amidst endless scrolling.
I fucking knew a man couldn't have created Oikawa Tooru. In my heart I knew.
I totally get why this is such a popular headcanon, especially with how incredibly well-written and nuanced characters like Oikawa are!Just to share a different perspective, though, Furudate's gender is still 100% unconfirmed and strictly speculation at this point. That rumor about their high school only having a girls' volleyball team is actually a longstanding internet myth that gets passed around a lot. I’ve even seen comments on YouTube from people claiming they went to school with Furudate and that he's a guy—but honestly, that’s just as unverified as the rest of the rumors! Mangaka privacy is wild, but until Furudate says otherwise, we really just don't know for sure either way, but their writing is top-tier regardless! Whoever they are, they’re an absolute genius for giving us Oikawa!
