Something that annoys me to no end is that a huge part of the antis argument against radqueers, proship, profic, etc. is that we shouldn’t be displaying our struggles, our disorders, or our orientation, what makes us ourselves.
Some of them don’t want us talking about it alongside wanting us to not exist but even the ‘better’ antis, the ones who accept that we should be allowed to exist, they still push for us to not express ourselves or exist where they can see us, which is ironic considering it’s just a short stop away from ensuring we don’t exist at all.
The argument is the same: it can harm and trigger victims, create new victims, or confuse kids.
Why should any one victims wellbeing matter more than another? You’re silencing victims to.. help victims? They aren’t any more important than us, we’re both victims. Why should it matter? If I can curate what I see on my page, so can they. They don’t have to watch or read things that make them uncomfortable, just like I don’t have to either. They are infantilizing victims in a sense, acting like they aren’t strong enough or mature enough to handle themselves because of what they’ve been through when that is not the case.
As for it ‘creating new victims’, or harming others to the extent that they become a victim… if you cannot tell the difference between right and wrong in fiction, you should not be online. It is no fault of ours that you were not ready to be introduced to those topics when we are not catering it to you, when you just so happened to stumble upon our art. And for the radqueer side of things, being Radqueer is just being yourself, the only way that it would ‘create new victims’ is if they’re Transharmed perhaps, but that’s not the fault of the community, it’s something that person has always been, just lacked a label for. The only other way I can think of it is if they existed in our community and the hate from antis, the threats, the doxxing got to be too much, in which case it also isn’t the fault of any Radqueer but the fault of antis.
And finally, confusing kids? Really? Once again, acting as though the youth cannot think for themselves, as if the youth do not or cannot know themselves. This is also the exact reasoning used to keep queer people out of the public eye by those who want us dead. They are reheating the same tactics used to oppress minorities for decades. If a kid stumbles into something not meant for them like a mature fic, that is no fault of the person who made it. But, if a kid stumbles into the Radqueer community and enjoys it, it’s doing no harm. We are about acceptance, so all we’re doing is introducing the youth to terms that they can use to better describe themselves and giving them a community where they are safe and welcome.
They are not doing this ‘for victims’ or ‘for children’ or even for ‘safety’. They are pushing against us because we make them uncomfortable, simple as that. And they think that anything that makes them feel icky shouldn’t be allowed to exist. They use real victims and the youth as a human shield to make themselves seem righteous and morally superior. They do not care to understand, they do not care to accept, the only thing they care about are their own feelings. They cannot handle even seeing a single post on their page that they disagree with, so rather than curate their own experiences they would rather see us gone. They are selfish and ignorant, arrogant and vain. I have no empathy for them.
