Question! 'cause I don't believe this to be the fic advertising blog! I just posted the first chapter of this fic for a REALLY incredibly niche cartoon movie -- literally, there were 7 fics posted in this fandom -- 8 now that I posted mine.

Given the obscurity of this movie, I'm... Kinda not expecting much, though I'm also incredibly hopeful that it catches on -- by readers familiar or otherwise.

Anyhoo, TLDR: What's the best way to like... Advertise a fic? Because I REALLY would love for this thing to be noticed.

I'll give you a few ideas, but I'm sure folks can add on some more in the notes!

I find it helpful to post it on tumblr. Folks who follow me generally have an overlap of interests with me and even if they haven't seen the thing I'm writing about, they might get curious enough to dip in.

If I post, I often include an image/banner of some sort. I make mine in photoshop, but you could use Canva or any other tool you're comfortable with. I'll take some imagery that applies to my fic - either from a site like pixabay with royalty free images or a screenshot from the show - and add the title of the fic and my AO3 username. Then I'll share the summary underneath and link to the fic itself.

If your fandom has a tag, you can add that to your post's tags. I tend to just post one or two fandom-related tags instead of a whole slew because at a certain point it starts to look like spam.

And I recommend starting or joining a tumblr community related to the fandom. That can be a great way of sharing your work with others. So can a discord server, if you're so inclined (or a fluxer server, if you're moving away from discord)

I write for an older fandom that's pretty dead today (and never was very active to begin with). Tumblr is a good place to advertise! I would suggest not just posting a summary but rather regularly posting excerpts, perhaps one from each chapter as you publish them (so long as it's not too often). Summaries can be very hit or miss and what works for one person, someone else might turn up their nose at. Excerpts however will give readers a good idea of your writing style and hopefully pique their interest in the story that surrounds them!

Don't be afraid to send your fic to friends you think might enjoy it, especially if you think it's possible to enjoy the fic even for people who aren't familiar with the source material. This is (probably) especially true for smut. In my experience people who enjoy particular kinds of relationship dynamics can be very open to reading stories from fandoms they lack familiar with.

Finally - interact with those few who are already in the fandom! Doesn't matter if their works are old, they might be super happy to hear from you. Be the change you want to see in the world etc etc ;)

Hello Beckoryers!!

it's that time of year again! with August coming up I (@puhpandas) felt the beckory week energy again. so here we are!

the week will run from August 17th to August 23rd. I'm announcing it this early so everyone has plenty of time over the summer to make things at their own pace, especially with artfight rolling around =) and with pax west soon after the end of this fanweek, I'm hoping it can also be a sort of fun leadup to hopefully some steel wool news!

Here is an explanation of how the prompts work. don't overthink it!

Rules:

No NSFW or suggestiveness, even for timeskip prompts. the character are preteens. be normal if depicting them kissing, etc. I won't reblog if I feel something is too much

HASHTAG and MENTION #beckory week 2026 and this blog in every submission so I can actually see it and reblog to this blog!

Tag any potentially triggering content! like blood etc. for anyone worried I'll be tagging reblogs of submissions with warnings no matter what

making submissions for every single day is not needed! you could do just 1 day or all 7, even multiple per day and it'd all be perfectly fine!

post each submission on its respective prompt day only

all submissions must involve beckory and Gregory and Tony. it's a week centered around their relationship. anything is allowed, even if it's just a headcanon list or analysis post, as long as it's centered around them. other characters are obviously allowed, just the central point should be beckory

This blog will be used as a sort of archive and host for the event, so I'll be tagging every work with if it's art/fic, which day and which prompt it used, etc, for the sake of going back and looking through =)

finally, have fun!! be creative and let loose! this event is purely for fun and just making stuff for beckory. don't forget that!

I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with relating to characters, “they’re literally me” etc but if that’s the only way you engage with stories you’re kinda missing the whole point of Characters being vehicles through which we can see perspectives outside of our own. and also you’re going to get upset when the Character acts in a way that is not Personally Relatable to You
