We have karashi who has thrown away his future and thinks akane is his prey, and he's for once absolutely devoted to something not for the money of because it was expected of him, but because of true passion; then we have Hikaru with her love for competition and being the best...... and who's better for that type of self reassurance that than the girl who defeated her in competition, what's even more funny hikaru openly says she loves akane. 🥺💙🩷
so I can't help but agree... 🫡💕 YET!!! as the guy named 'i like kaisei x akane" and a person who is absolutely biased towards his ship, I disagree with you, and I need to say it. And even if the canon develops differently, I wouldn't care and I'll just accept it. I guess. (Need to be honest and upfront about that first, because integrity). Back on track, Kaisei & Akane's bond is special❗❗❗❗That's why we got a whole ass arc that spawned since the very first volume of this series. I mean, — I'm taking my shipping googles off— if you read the manga carefully, Akane is obsessed with that dude. And Kaisei is also obsessed with Akane. Akane has been Kaisei's champion since moment zero. And, Kaisei has been the wall she needs to take down and defeat. She's so obsessed with that she starts making mistakes. It's a mutual thing, and it's only now that we're seeing those characters interact in the way they're intended to be.... to become foils for Kisoba & Rokuen. Not even Issho and Shiguma, but Kisoba and Rokuen. And I'm sorry but those two loved each other (not romantically necessarily, but if you must ship them, then u can) it was a deep affection rooted in a filial love, and they loved their Master. Kiroku was their father and they loved him, and they want to protect his art. And we know that, it's there implicit but there.
.....And now that translates into Kaisei and Akane's rivalry, because they also wanna protect the masters they love. So... There's humanity, and kindness and friendship and there's also love. (Once again not romantically). But love. And you probably won't never ever see Kaisei and Akane say I love you to each other the same way you won't see Kisoba and Rokuen, or Issho and Shiguma do that.
Yet, it's so obvious those old man's still care for each other.
However they don't drop that in your face, it's all through acts, and those two are the same, here some examples: changing times destroyed Akane not because she lost to Hikaru but because she couldn't go and compete with Kaisei we even got the "haha so you were searching for yourself in the middle of competition haha" jab and inner joke that no other character but them understood, the resolution of the matsuri arc is Akane accepting she needs to go and kick him in the ass, and we're only piecing the pieces of that now. The dance dance competition, they did not talk just acted and performed perfectly together. And there's, Kaisei just realizing recently that he has never truly bloomed in the ways that are best and true for himself, because Akane defeated him.
This has spawned for Volumes and volumes. All of their interactions are nuanced, and mostly packed with subtlety, mostly actions and not words..... And that's something that mostly happens with Kaisei & Akane in ways that other "harem members" don't have! (Disclaimer: I'm not bashing any ships, because I love every Akane ship as long as she bottoms tho).
And I'm sorry, but just look at they way they're written. I know I must look like the pepe Silvia meme, but— *stops* you know what it's okay.
At the end of the day, each and all of us has a different perception of any kind of story, if yours is different than mine, I hope you have fun with it— there's no accounting for taste.
