That is the most jaw droppingly poetic thing to say ever, but when it cuts to her sleeping in the lap of his statue, pillowed on the carved palm and clutching the fox doll - basically surrounded by the two sides of him - the fox Ji Ling and the dragon deity and yet everything is underpinned by the fact that to defeat JY they have to kill her and aaaa

And the way he then looks around in panic before finally breaking down.

The heavy breathing and gasping during this scene was 👌🏻 and added so much to the emotion of it all.

And then they throw off their armor and bang like mad. And by that I mean they are fucking as she’s applying medicine to his wounds in the pool. Your OTP could never.

I don't even know how many times I replayed this.

I'm the least romantic and most boring person I know irl and that's how I prefer it but when it comes to fiction? If it doesn't include an unhinged madman who falls in intense, obsessive, toxic love I don't want it.

What's making me lose my mind (other than above) is that she knows he is the young master of the demon sect, the sworn enemy sect of her people and yet she is so ready to do it with him! Like even after they break away before they kiss, she looks shy and smiles a little. There's no backtracking from her. She said what she said and she was about to do exactly what she was about to do. Girlie wasn't reading "Mu's Love Affairs" for science and I love that so much. I love her beyond words.

The aftermath of Xiujia losing the baby is making me think of The Rebel Princess (and tellingly, Di Lin is very much like the book version of TRP ML.)

The way he's sitting there looking at the baby things...oooof.

And she sees him...

And how lovely and telling that the moment he sees she's up (and out of danger), he just drops the baby stuff he was holding, because he'd not trade her for any babies.

The way he draws her into a hug!

I think the implication is she might not be able to have any more children (once again, very TRP coded.) But also the fact that they are having this convo as he's brushing her hair...

His response. I don't care if he's sacked more cities than Genghis Khan, Di Lin is husband goals.

It goes straight to the heart of all her worries and just AAAAA!

In a society this patriarchal and this obsessed with offspring, this is - no words. But it honestly makes sense because Di Lin is cold or murderous to most people, but those few he loves, he loves utterly and he can bend all his insane will towards them. (And also, you get the sense, he treasures whatever measure of peace and warmth he has because the rest of his world is nuclear winter, and so he would never want to risk it for more since it's too crucial to him.)

am i a little bit scared of her? yes. are all her boys a little bit scared of her? yes. is that kind of the appeal? yes. gorgeous, graceful, and as comfortable playing princess as she is garroting you. ren ruyi knows what she wants (ning yuanzhou) and she's going to get it. if she wanted to step on me i'd lay down and thank her for the opportunity.

what's a demonic saintess to do when her one true love's current incarnation appears in her demon abode but engage in a lil bondage play? then steal a kiss and few ass grabs because a girl is thirsty. she dgaf what anyone thinks, she’s here for her man and just try to stop her. and yeah maybe there are a few bloody fights in the meantime. i’d say she can step on me anytime but i'm a little concerned demon lord will come for me.

When I think of this drama and of this sequence, the phrase "achingly lovely" comes to mind because it really is - so lovely and yet so with an underpinning of the ache of longing and past hurts.

The way he comes home late to see her asleep in his bed AGAIN. The tenderness.

And his little plea. My heart! Because he's a quiet person with a great poker face and demeanor but yes - how can he ever truly put himself out there to go after her with no brakes, when he remembers what happened before. He cannot. He needs her to show she wants him, and the thing is - to everyone around them it is obvious how they are gone on each other - but these two are so riddled with uncertainty because it's too important to them and because of trauma.

Also this phrasing - when he's the one giving himself not vice versa aaaaa. Actually the characters and dynamics are very different but it makes me think of this exchange in Kunning:

But even more so because there isn't even a first attempt to possess, all he wants is to feel safe enough to be possessed.
