Todoroki family modern AU fic idea
Okay so it would be centered around Touya. Him and Fuyumi are twins. Instead of hero work, the whole thing Enji is obsessed with would be baseball, and he is like a super famous retired pro baseball player. Touya was gonna be his protege, but then he got a serious rotary tear when he was 12 that basically prevented him from ever playing again. Now he's 17, and is about to find out that his parents are getting a divorce which will change everything. Basically this is an AU so that I can make Touya flourish as the teenage dirtbag he was always meant to be. There's so many more details I have in my head, but I need to just get into it so here's a brief excerpt from the first chapter so far:
"Hey Natsu" Touya called out as he threw his backpack on the floor while closing the door behind him.
"Hey Touya!" Natsu said, suddenly buzzing with energy and bounding down the stairs to greet his older brother. Natsu was only 11, and hadn't quite hit his growth spurt yet, so his short white hair only came up to Touya's shoulder. He quickly faltered as his gray eyes surveyed the room, looking confused. "Where's Yumi?"
"Ballet, dumbass. How do you keep forgetting?" Touya teased, ruffling the younger boyās hair. He looked at the clock, realizing he only had 10 minutes till his father came back from coaching the school baseball team. He tensed as the memories from earlier that day, just a few hours ago, flooded his mind. God why am I so stupid? Socking the star catcher of the school baseball team - his father's baseball team - might not have been the smartest choice. Not that Touya necessarily regretted his decision, but he was definitely dreading the consequences. Maybe if he had remembered it was peak baseball season and Ito was a pivotal player on the team he would've held off the violent antics. Not out of respect for the team, just to avoid the wrath of his father. Suffice to say Enji was going to be pissed. Touya needed to clear his head before getting into any of that. "Im gonna go for a walk" Touya said with a sigh.
"I wanna come!" Natsu cheered, jumping at any excuse to hang out with his older brother.
Touya considered the idea, because he wasn't opposed to spending time with the kid. Although he hated to admit it, he did have a soft spot for Natsu, but he was mostly considering how this would impact Enji's reaction to him coming home that evening. Having an 11 year old beside him could work in his favor, with the idea that Enji might not get as mad if he was standing next to a little kid, but he doubted that would stop him from speaking his mind. And Touya would feel bad for subjecting Natsu to that without him knowing what he was getting into. "Aren't you supposed to be watching Shoto while dad's out?" he asked in a hopeful attempt to steer him away from tagging along.
"I was, but now he's taking a nap. I promise Iāll be good, and when we get home I'll be very calm. I swear!" Natsu pleaded, looking up at Touya with the sweetest expression he could muster.
Touya folded. "Fine. But I'm holding you to that, you little twerp." Touya said, grabbing the house keys and making his way back towards the door. Natsu rejoiced and scrambled to find his shoes and jacket.Ā
Walking back towards the house, Touya felt a pit form in his stomach. He had no idea what he was in for and desperately wanted some idea of what he was getting into before stepping foot back in that house. He could see Natsu's mouth moving as he skipped beside him, carefree as he rambled about the new video game his friend introduced him to. Touya knew he should pay attention. He usually enjoyed listening to his brother yap about random shit because it calmed him down and made him smile. He could really use a distraction right now, but couldn't bring himself to focus on anything but the house he could see getting larger in the distance as they approached, wishing more than anything to just turn around and stay at a friend's place for the night.Ā
That thought sparked an idea, and Touya quickly had his phone in hand as he tapped in the number he knew by heart.Ā
After the first two rings he heard a voice on the other line "Hey Touya, what's up?"
"Keigo, thank god. How bad is it?" Touya asked, voice filled with worry. He knew with Keigo he didn't have to pretend to be chill about the situation the way he would with Shigaraki, or Himiko. Keigo and him had been friends since they were 8 when they met at a baseball camp his father sent him to. They have always been there for each other, when Touya got his injury, when his parents would have bad fights, when Keigo was getting used to new foster families that didn't accept him. So Touya knew that when he called asking how bad it was, Keigo would know exactly what he was talking about, and he wouldn't sugar coat the truth.
Touya chewed his lip as he heard a deep breath on the other line, "Pretty fucking bad. He was really mad during practice. Seeing Ito's face really set him off." Keigo paused for a minute to let the words sit heavy in the air, Touya's footsteps audibly slowing on his end of the call. "What he do this time? I mean like, I know Ito is an asshat but Christ Touya, the bruise on his face looked like he had a plum growing outta his forehead."
Touya laughed at that, remembering the look on Ito's face when he decked him in the face. "He said some dumb shit about Shiggy so I taught him a lesson," Touya said proudly, a small smile tugging at his lips. He doesn't tolerate anyone bullying his friends. It's actually how he and Shigaraki met in high school. During freshman year, Touya overheard a bunch of baseball idiots making fun of a kid with shoulder length blue hair. He told them all off, and gave one of them a black eye. The whole stunt landed him in detention for a week, but he and Shiggy have been friends ever since, so he thinks that's a pretty good trade off.
"Okay idiot." Keigo said, "Just consider saving those lessons for after baseball season in the future." Keigo teased. Touya can hear the sound of someone calling Keigo's name on his end of the call. "Wishing you the best of luck with this one man."
"Yeah thanks, I'll need it." Touya said, chewing his lip and feeling his proud smile dissipate as the dread consumed him again. "Thanks for the warning."Ā
"Tell Natsu I said hi," Keigo added just before Touya could hang up.
"Well, heās walking with you, isnāt he? Unless that's Fuyumi humming in the background, but I assumed she had ballet practice. So you two must be out for some brother bonding time!" Keigo said smugly.Ā
Touya grumbled, shifting his attention to Natsu for a brief second, seeing the innocent look in his little brother's eyes. "Shut up. Iām hanging up now." Touya snapped back at him. He cut Keigo off by pressing the end call button before he could say some other dumb shit.Ā
Touya may often complain about his friend and his relentless teasing, but he loved him.
No sound could possibly be heard as Touya ever so gently guided the door open. He saw Enji's car in the driveway, so he had to be home. His mom's car was still nowhere to be found, meaning Fuyumi's ballet practice was running a bit late tonight. This meant Touya was completely on his own with this one, so he had to play it quiet.
Touya snuck up towards the staircase hoping to make it to his room on the second floor. He was immediately brought to a stop when he felt a hand on his shoulder.
"Touya." He heard the deep voice that always sent shivers down his spine. Everything in his body tensed up. shit. He slowly turned around to see his own bright blue eyes looking back at him in an expression of suppressed rage.
"What do you want?ā Touya managed through gritted teeth, his fear turning quickly to anger upon seeing the man's face.
"Why do you insist on sabotaging me? I thought I told you to put this in the past. So why do you still do this to spite me?" Enji said in an attempt to keep his composure, though his shaking balled up fists were as good an indicator as any that he was seething.
"I didn't punch Ito to spite you, he was just being a dick okay? Not everything is about you, though I know that must be a difficult concept for your baseball brain to comprehend,ā Touya spat out. He almost regretted the words the second they came out. He didn't want to make his dad more angry, he really didn't, but just seeing that look on his face, he just couldn't help himself. The cruel words just spilled out of his mouth before he even got a chance to think about the consequences.
"Dont you realize that your actions affect me? When you go around punching my players it makes me look like I can't even handle one 17 year old." Enji crowded in Touya's face as the words on his lips turned to venom. "What kind of a coach am I if I can't even discipline one fuckup huh? Do you ever actually think about that or do you just go around punching people with no respect for your own family?"Ā
Touya felt himself shut down as the words continued to rise in volume. He knew this was coming, but it was still so exhausting each time. God, why did he have to punch that asshole? Maybe he does need to start thinking about his actions and how they will affect his father, because when he gets like this, Touya feels so conflicted. He wants to scream back, but he completely loses any and all energy once Enji opens his mouth. The best option now is to just sit and wait for the storm to pass.
Touya looked up from the bottom of the staircase when he heard the sound of a door opening. Enji continued yelling, not hearing the sound. Touya made eye contact with Fuyumi over his father's shoulder. He watched the default smile fade from her face as she realized what was happening. She knew this was coming too. She was there when the Ito incident took place, and since then she has been giving him the silent treatment. Fuyumi doesn't like it when her twin brother resorts to violence in any scenario, even if it's for a good cause. She especially dislikes these acts of violence if she thinks they will particularly complicate things within the Todoroki household. She has always been the peace maker of the two, always trying to restore a sense of normalcy in her life, starting with her family. So it goes without saying that she was very angry at him for this.Ā
Touya expected her to look at him with an angry, annoyed, or possibly empathetic expression. Depending on her mood these would all be feasible possibilities. However, now she was giving him a look of fear. This was not typical of her. Enji was mad at Touya, not Fuyumi, so why would she be scared? Then he saw her turn to their mom.
Rei's usually calm gray eyes were clearer than he had ever seen them, painted with an emotion that Touya couldn't place. Usually she looked at Enji with a sadness that hurt to see on a woman so kind and tender. Her eyes always clouded with fear or sadness. They showed no trace of that now. It was extremely jarring for Touya.
āEnji, I would like to speak to you.ā Rei announced. She spoke much louder than the near whisper she typically used in the presence of her husband.
Enji abruptly stopped his lecturing, turning over his shoulder to meet Rei's steady cool gaze. āWhat is it Rei?ā he spat out. Only slightly put off by Reiās newfound confidence, he still let the anger seep into his voice.
āI would like to speak with you,ā Rei repeated herself. Touya was stunned at the way she was speaking to Enji. Usually she was apologizing for breathing around him. So who was this woman, so demanding of his attention and respect in a way he had never seen before?
Fuyumiās eyes met Touya's once again. He could see the urgency in those gray eyes. She walked towards Touya, causing Enji to step back, still in a bit of a shocked state due to Reiās ominous request. She took Touya's hand and dragged them both upstairs and down the hallway that leads to her room.Ā
āYumi, what's going on?ā Touya asked once they were out of earshot. She didn't offer him any response, and continued walking at her fast pace, which only made him more anxious. āFuyumi seriously, what's up with mom?ā He pleaded a second time
Fuyumi finally pulled him into her room, and only spoke once the door was shut behind them.Ā
āMom is getting a divorceā
