You can’t advocate for ‘reading banned books’ and oppose political censorship with the same breath that you demonize ‘problematic’ fiction with. The duality of being an ‘anti’ or shaming creators that depict things that make you/other people uncomfortable while portraying yourself as a morally superior person is hypocrisy. You need to be able to distinguish that fiction, imagination and ideas are not a reflection of a person’s actual values and behavior. When you fall into that pipeline of thinking, you are effectively saying that any thought or idea someone may have or represent through art/fiction that isn’t ‘pure’ is proof that their ethics and beliefs must be one in the same with that idea. You have become the ‘thought police’.
