So yesterday I learned that Ken and Osamu were almost twins and this morning I wrote up notes for an AU for that
I'm here on tumblr for another 2 and a half hours or so before my game tonight, so I'll gladly rp this AU in that time

So a world where Ken is a twin, he doesn't understand why he's not as smart as Osamu, they're literally twins why does Osamu get way more attention?
He gets increasingly pissed about it. When the digivice comes out of the computer, he doesn't get why _Osamu_ gets to keep it, he already has everything. Ryou joins their class around the same time, the teachers thought it would be easier if both twins were in one class, less chance of them switching places. And Ryou is drawn to Osamu and Ken is left fuming, trying not to be jealous at one more thing Osamu has instead of Ken.
But hey, at least Ken is known to be kinder? That's gotta count for something, right?
Osamu is away at some thing for famous people, honestly Ken doesn't care what, Ken only cares that his twin that will be gone long enough for him to jimmy the lock on the drawer. He takes the digivice, Ryou arrives unexpectedly for Osamu and finds the younger twin instead
The digiworld pulls them in and tag tamers happens and Ken finally feels seen even if even an evil digigod openly doesn't want him around. He gains a friend in Ryou, shares a small part of his thoughts, but then the Spore happens and the festering anger in him only grows.
He's sick in bed, helping Ryou through the computer, and Osamu is there, changing his headcloth whenever it gets too warm, trying to figure out how the tf to fix his brother
It's during a fever dream that Ken says "I wish you were gone" and Osamu tries not to take it personally, but it still hurts, when Ken is better and Ryou is officially missing, he takes Ken out for ice cream. It's an excuse to get away from the parents, he intended to talk things over with Ken. They never make it there
Inoue Mart is right across the street the twins only half cross (because before they lived in Tamachi, they lived in Odaiba) and when one of the Inoue kids saw the accident, they called for their parents. The Inoues are the first on the scene, the first to try and comfort Ken while hiding his brother's body from him.
Osamu was dead on impact, the last words he told his brother was that everything seem better after some ice cream, the last words he heard were that nothing was wrong Osamu why would you think that.
They move to Tamachi, getting away from the media as they cover osamu's death. Ken gets a million well-wishes, but also hears when classmates idiotly wonder why the _good_ twin died. He is not dealing well, then he gets the email about the digital world and he jumps, having forgotten the digital world during his feverdreams, fully believing that even his adventure with Ryou was a figment of fiction
He takes on the digital world, fashioning his "avatar" after his twin because even now he feels like Osamu is required to experience everything first but Osamu ain't here.
When the new digikids join the world, he recognized the youngest Inoue and prayed she didn't recognize him but that was a long lost dream already
It takes a while, especially with Ken refusing to be alone with her, but the moment she finds them alone, Miyako quietly says a name and he's confused. Ken? Doesn't she mean Osamu? Who tf does she think she is, actually recognizing him?
Normal 02 continues, with Miyako hiding that she already knew who he was as she tried to figure out what was going on any time they were alone
Eventually, when he returns to the human world after staying far away for months, he ends up in the hospital, it's not the first time at all but this time is more memorable, it's the first time he's seen a friend he forgot about, in 3 years. Kouichi is there, immediately recognizes him, and gives him a hug that's 3 years late but just as important as it would have been back then.
Unknown to Ken, the reason why he lost contact with Kouichi at such a critical time in his life, was because of Kouichiās accident with the stairs.
While Ken lost a twin, Kouichi gained one.
They talked about everything and now that they both have phones they promise not to lose contact again. It only takes one digimon in the human world for them to share that they're both digidestined of different digital worlds

Kouichi's grip slipped from Ken's wrist to retreat to his neckline, feeling for the lace of chain and the ring which hung on it.
A flush of red traveled up into his cheeks and the tips of his ears started burning.
"You -" Kouichi's face contorted. "You can't just - you can't just say things like that -- !" He lowered his eyes in embarrassment. For someone so down on themselves moments ago, Ken sure did have ego to outright propose. Which just made Kouichi furious and flustered with the way his emotions were being toyed with.
Kai pulled back, wildly gesturing while trying to find the right words.
"I didn't think I needed to in the first place, I thought you knew."
He thought Kouichi had simply not been ready to talk about such things yet. Happy to take his ring, but not to talk about it. Happy to lean on him, but equally happy to spend time with others.
Ken would always tell him the truth, tell him about every experiment and ever discovery. And he had just accepted that Kouichi would eventually become more comfortable just say "hey Ken im ready"
