the interrogation scene between karen and heather was a psychological game. they were both trying to trigger an emotional response from each other. karen used matt due to his past relationship with heather and heather used karen's dead brother in retaliation. of course she was bullshitting. everyone knows karen's backstory with kevin and there was no abuse involved whatsoever but even the implication of sth like that happening was disgusting/insulting enough to make karen react which is exactly what heather wanted. this wasn't her being stupid or the show trying to retcon anything. it's a mind game between two characters. it's also worth noting that heather was 100% projecting. asking if karen felt powerful after murdering wesley (paralleling her killing of muse) and telling her how she's been used by the men in her life (sth heather probably feels about herself after her romantic relationship with matt and her professional relationship with muse)
