AVALON !!

For a moment or two, Avalon got the absurd idea of actually bringing up the baby, but it disappeared from his mind as quick as it came. He was a spy, for goodness sake. He didn’t have time to bring up a child. Hell, he didn’t even have time to work on himself. Returning back to reality, he gave Kali a tiny smile that was laced with guilt. “Maybe he was a bit too cute so I purposely forgot. But don’t worry, I feel like he’s safer in the orphanage. Well, much safer than anywhere in these walls.”

She snorted at the guilty smile he gave her and shook her head. “Little guy is going to be tough. At least there won’t be guns and explosives around every corner at an orphanage ... or well, usually,” she shrugged. Kali watched as the young child waved his arms around in excitement, his little eyes taking in everything around him. “Hm. He is cute. How’d you end up with him? Killed his parents or what?”

“You sure about that?” he taunted, taking a step towards the team leader. “Who said anything about you being a cheap date? I’m not trying to buy you, Ixchel.”

“You saying you can handle me?” she raised an eyebrow at him, standing her ground. “Your early statements clearly indicate otherwise. But it’s cute that you’re trying to be all mysterious.”

DAKOTA !!

“Uh… yeah, I think they will.” Giving Kali a small smile, Dakota admired how the outfit flattered the woman’s features, hugging her in a way that seemed almost natural. The brunette knew that if it was her wearing those clothes, all she’d want to do is hide. Kali’s confidence was impressive. No wonder they always picked her for these missions. “I mean, no one else could pull it off as well as you can, in my opinion. Plus, we have tons of clothes cluttering our wardrobe section, so it’s not like HQ will miss it.”

Kali turned from side to side, gazing at her reflection and admiring how flattering the outfit indeed was. The older female felt like an Amazonian warrior -- her skintight dresses and red lipstick always served as her fiercest armor. She glanced over her shoulder and smirked at Dakota. “Thank you, sugar,” she drawled as she stepped closer. “I think you’d be able to give me a run for my money, though.” With one last glance over at her reflection, Kali fluffed her hair and nodded. “I’m gonna knock him dead ... figuratively and literally. And then as a little treat, I’m keeping this.”

GISELE !!

gisele sent her leader a calculating look - perhaps too harsh for her boss to be on the receiving end of, but that didn’t hinder her. “well, i can’t exactly picture the big man upstairs in that ensemble, but what do i know? my job here isn’t to look pretty - or to distinguish what is pretty - , i’m just supposed to hack my way into the database so you can go strolling in the red light district without anyone being able to get their hands of a visual of you. “ gisele shrugged, in vague disinterest as she turned back to the screen. 

kali felt a small dig jabbed in her direction but couldn’t find it within her to be bothered by it. gisele wasn’t a threat. ( or at least that’s what she told herself repeatedly. ) with a dramatic sigh, kali grabbed a scarf that was hanging off the mirror and wrapped it around gisele’s shoulders. she gave her a quick squeeze and pinched once of her cheeks. “and i so do appreciate your hard work.”

The corner of his mouth twitched, almost forming a smirk. “Do you want it to be a promise, Ixchel?”

“I don’t really think you could handle giving me gifts whenever I want,”  she commented, turning around to give him a once over.  “I’m not a cheap date.”

“I’m starting to think that now, actually. I should have just said no but as you can see, its a bit too late at the moment.” He shrugged. “I was actually supposed to leave this fella at the orphanage after my mission but I kinda forgot– and he looked too cute to leave behind– I’ll take him back soon. But honestly, look at him.” 

The very word ‘orphanage’ made something in her insides twinge. She wasn’t exactly a bleeding heart when it came to other people’s struggles, but there was a camaraderie she felt with other orphans -- even ones like the little baby boy in Avalon’s arms. It was a feeling that filled her with sympathy at all the trials the child would have to face. She stepped closer and placed a hand on the back of his head before glancing Avalon. “Which one is it? Was he too cute to leave behind or did you forget?” she asked, her eyes returning to the back of the baby’s head. “He is very cute, but if you can’t take care of him it’s best to take him to someone who can.”

RHEA !!

“Always looking on the bright side, I see.” Rhea joked before inspecting the females outfit, she had to admit it was lovely. “Probably not, but I’d at least try hiding it if I were you.”

“Oh, I’m way ahead of you on that one. This little number is gonna go mysteriously missing tonight,” she smirked through the mirror before turning around. “I’ll take this as my payment for being such a hardworking spy for them.”

ESME !!

          & spanish was her own first language.  it was the language spoken in her oh so   l o v i n g  home.  the language spoken by her brothers,  sisters,  ( father ).  she slipped into it easily,  but it was something she mostly liked to keep to herself.  save for when she was missing something that she never truly had,  save for when she was just tired enough to think she really missed the home that doesn’t miss her.  BUT IT FELT GOOD  to speak it on any day ;  it felt good to be esme from the block,  to shed the wraith.  and there was the added bonus that kali would spit it back to her,  a genuine give and take.  she sticks out her tongue,  despite her features being hidden from the other by shadows.  ‘  how do you stand being such a  b i t c h  all day ?  ’  yeah,  es,  you really got her there.  ooh,  burn.  take the insult and throw it back,  it’s not like you haven’t done that one yet.  ‘  and i’m  BORED.  ’

“ i’m pretty content with myself, actually. gotten pretty used to myself these past two decades,” kali shrugged, her attention switching down to her manicure. hn. she’d need to repaint heir nails very soon. “like i said, i’m not your babysitter. i would hope you could find something more productive to do with your time than make a mess of the hall. you’re not so important that no one is going to knock you down a peg for being a little shit.” kali knew that esme was talented but the problem was that esme knew she was talented. it made her a pain to deal with and kali honestly couldn’t be bothered to listen to her for more than five minutes at a time.

“ you have a hella nice body, though. i would love to go undercover, even as an escort, but like.. ” casey animatedly pushed up her seemingly non-existent breasts. “ i don’t have what it takes. and who cares if they let you keep it, take it anyways.”

“ thank you, sweetie,” kali said, turning her head with small smile. she allowed her eyes to follow casey’s gesturing and she chuckled slightly, shaking her head at the notion. “oh please, you are totally trippin’. you are so p r e t t y. you don’t need big boobs to know how to work someone. you’re part of my team so you should be more than aware of that. you’ll get your day. i could bring you with me if you like?” a smirk gracing her lips, she nodded in agreement. “i was thinking about it. can’t blame me if it just so happens to go missing while i’m on the mission. hazards of the job.”

Kali raised an eyebrow at him through her reflection in the mirror. “Hm, is that a promise, Shadow?”

ESME !!

          ‘  AREN’T YOU A LITTLE YOUNG  to dress like my abuela ?  ’  to be perfectly fair,  esme was only as mature as her age when it was absolutely necessary.  acting her age was only a priority when there was a mission on the line.  which,  there wasn’t.  ‘  NO  –––––  because i don’t have a mission to go on,  my  p e r r a  of a team leader is leaving me with nothing to do all day. ’  esme took off one of her ballet flats  (  with the special rubber grips for climbing !  )  and chucked it down at kali.  along with another sprinkling of popcorn.

“ mija, i really don’t want to think about your grandma in this halter ... y o u could barely pull it off as it is, ” kali scoffed at the weak attempt at a dig from the other girl. she crossed her arms over her chest, raising an eyebrow at esme’s words. kali hadn’t been raised in a spanish speaking home -- she was an orphan and all she knew was the staff at the orphanage. she knew english, and even a little korean from the workers who had taken care of her as a little girl but she’d never learned spanish in a context that she would regularly use it. when kali discovered that she was hispanic and what that meant, she had immediately wanted to cling to some form of identity and taught herself spanish. she would practice by sneaking off to spanish harlem and speaking with the locals. it wasn’t the same as knowing where she came from, but it had been enough. “ i’m not your babysitter esme, we don’t have a mission because the big bosses don’t have anything they need from us today,” she commented, merely side stepping the shoe and popcorn that ungracefully flopped to the floor. “ it’s like you’re a literal toddler, how do you stand being around yourself all day? ”
