Idk the song "shout out to my ex" by little mix just bugs me. Like come on, 'hope she getting better sex' like 🙄🙄🙄 'hope she ain't faking it like I did" ..... Seriously? You once wanted this person a lot and even though they did you wrong, no need to be an immature girl about it. Great! You're over them and you're growing, but don't sink yourself down to that level to throw what everyone is calling "shade" when really, it sounds like a twelve year old throwing a tantrum 🙄 *shakes head*

“Smart idea but it sounds awfully impossible. Imagine trying to sneak up on some high-tech robot who probably has 360 vision. We’d have to be so quick to incapacitate them and then reprogram them before they reboot. Such a dangerous mission and weirdly enough, I’d be keen enough to volunteer to do it.” Dangerous missions were thrilling to Avalon and it was no joke that he loved the feeling of the adrenaline rush when it fueled his body when he needed it most. “Another mission together? Definitely not. Don’t get your hopes up, Athena. That won’t be happening anytime soon.” He folded his arms across his chest and shrugged with such a cheeky grin. “Beats me. But feel honored. Not everyone can say that they’ve received this type of special treatment.”

She snorted at the guilty smile he gave her and shook her head. “Little guy is going to be tough. At least there won’t be guns and explosives around every corner at an orphanage … or well, usually,” she shrugged. Kali watched as the young child waved his arms around in excitement, his little eyes taking in everything around him. “Hm. He is cute. How’d you end up with him? Killed his parents or what?”

“He definitely is,” Avalon agreed, beaming like an idiot at the baby. “No guns and explosives,” he repeated. “Only occasional bullies. But I’m sure this little fella will show them who’s boss. Isn’t that right?” he cooed, words aimed at the child. He shook his head with a small frown. “His parents are already deceased. He was on a black market sale-- I don’t even know how people don’t get caught by stealing and selling children, but there he was. And he was only $500. The seller wasn’t too keen on letting me buy him so things turned ugly-- I wonder what his name is. Did you want to name him before I dropped him off at the orphanage?”

He almost spat water out of his mouth. “Doesn’t everyone know that?” Avalon asked with a laugh, coughing a couple of seconds later. “Maybe next time you want to go to the weight-lifting room, use the baby weights.”

a smile crept onto daphne’s features as she listened to avalon laugh. genuine laughter had always been associated with trust, a commodity daphne loved to trade in. the more people trusted her — or at least her goofy, laid back exterior — the less likely they were ever going to dig into her sombre past. it was a win-win. pulling her ponytail tighter, she nodded at avalon’s closing question, “ i’ve got a couple, yeah. if i’m remembering correctly, i’ve got an observation slash research mission, and a more hands-on one. nothing too out of the ordinary. — what about you? ”

After he had managed to laugh the comment about Ryker out of his system, which was a very long time, he sluggishly let his laughter die out and watched Daphne fiddle with her hair. “Sounds like you’ve got a pretty full-on week,” Avalon breathed, rubbing the back of his neck. “Although I must say that the observation-research mission sounds boringly exhausting,” he admitted with a huff. “My week is looking free, unless there’s an on-call short notice mission for me but other than that, I just have an infiltration mission with a couple of my teammates in the weekend. And thanks to your earlier complaint, I’ll make sure none of them are playing snake.”

“Me? Steal a baby? Of course not, guppy. In fact, I found this little guy on the baby tree just outside the headquarters. And he’s a boy. How dare you limit his masculinity.”

“victim suffered from a blow to the head,” dakota murmured into her tape recorder, her fingers fidgeting nervously against her clipboard. a body lay lifeless against the metal table, the room silent except the sound of her wavering voice. “the injury seemed to have caused a subarachnoid hemorrhage, which led to what I suspect to be an aneurysm. right now, it’s hypothetical, but it will become clear upon completion.” the girl could feel her throat tightening up. at first she tried to ignore it, but the longer her eyes lingered on the deceased, the more her eyes began to water. her hand shot up to cover her mouth. a tiny sob escaping the brunette’s lips. she hit pause on her tape recorder, balancing herself against the counter to catch a breath. autopsies were her least favorite part of the job. even the idea of loss of life tugged at her heart strings. “o -oh, i’m sorry. i didn’t see you there,” she said, realizing someone was standing there.

He stood there silently, just watching intently as the other spoke discoveries into her tape recorder. Avalon was beyond feeling for the dead which led him to briefly wonder about the last time he had died inside while staring at a corpse. As soon as he was noticed, he mustered up a tiny sympathetic smile. “I was looking for Edith-- are you always like this with bodies?” He couldn’t help but cut himself off and ask the question that had been prodding at his curiousity since he caught sight of the female.

“I understand where you’re coming from, but come on! Africa by Toto is the greatest song ever written, and nothing gets a crowd going like that chorus. But, I will admit, I mostly I did it to see how annoyed everyone got. Can’t lie to you.”

“Oh, I won’t disagree with you there,” Avalon said with a hidden grin. “The song is a definite classic.” He almost had to pinch himself to refrain from singing or even humming the chorus. “How did no one throw a stool at you?”

“everyone fails at raising a tamagotchi, especially when the damn battery dies. on the brightside children don’t have a battery — kind of, unless you consider the heart one.”

“But you see, tamagotchi don’t cry and poop simultaneously-- well, at least mine didn’t.” The last part of what Xavier said completely caught Avalon off guard, resulting in a tiny pang in his chest. “Yeah. A battery. --Aha.” He tried to laugh it off but failed. "Too bad you can't recharge a dead heart."

“I guess we will just have to find a way to make the robots run away from us” she said to him, with a small shrug resisting the urge to let a smirk play on her lips that feeling soon faded as he turned on his well known attitude; she rolled her eyes at his comment. She let out a scoff, before flipping her hair over her shoulder. “I’m not always in a crap mood, only on the days I see you” she said in almost a teasing manner. “Ever since what? Our mission? Do you always treat ex-partners like this or is this special treatment just for me?”

“And how exactly are we going to do that? They’d just slice and dice us like a pair of onions.” He tried to repress his own scoff when he heard the redhead scoff but failed miserably. He scoffed even louder than she did, almost like he was trying to put extra emphasis on his own scoff. “Only on days you see me,” Avalon repeated. “Then I guess you better start walking about with your eyes closed because you’re going to be seeing more of me, Athena. And the last thing you want is for everyone to think that you’re actually always in a crap mood.” He gave her a smile, cheek laced with sarcasm. “It’s all just for you, you ray of sunshine.”

Edith crinkled her nose in reply, a small smile on her lips. “you live for office romance rumors, don’t you, my man? be sure to put on some goggles; some bodies are full of pressure and when you cut into them all their junk starts flyin’ out.”

“Well, you’ve got me all figured out now, haven’t you?” Avalon teased, sluggishly making his way towards the door where the sanitary gear sat, returning only minutes later covered from head to toe. “No such thing as being too cautious, right?” he questioned with a quiet chuckle, readjusting his goggles to make sure not even the slightest wisp of air from around the corpse could touch his skin. “Where do I start?” Eager beaver, much?
