listen, i can go on and on about this. some of this is lost in translation and some of it is just translated straight to names but i gotta yap about pronouns. whichever one is used says a lot about how each character sees themselves. its more than gender. If you watch anime, you probably already know this stuff.

Ore Users - tough, gruff, and masculine guys that will handle business; might be in a gang or something.
🦇Rui - he calls himself 'Ore-chan'! 🤭 I don't think I ever see that, if at all! Like, he's so masculine enough to use 'Ore' but still cute and boyish enough to add on '-chan'. It's just too cute and automatically made me adore him tbh.
🦇Edward - he's an 'Ore' guy interestingly enough. You would think he would use 'Watashi' since he's a foreign vampire but I guess he fancies himself a tough guy too, lol.
🦇Lyca - as expected.
🎋Haku - love when pretty boys use 'ore'
❄️Kaito - trying to hype himself up, gotta be 😭
❄️Lucas - I def thought he would be a 'boku' boy!
❄️Jin - yep, as expected
🎰Taiga - if he said anything other than 'ore', it would be a problem tbh
🎰Romeo - a little unexpected since he's Italian and a bougie baddie
🧡Ren - such a tuff guy 🤭
🧡Towa - unexpected. like really unexpected. sort of scary.
🔧Alan - of course
🔧Sho - of course
🔧Leo - sort of funny to me but I guess it makes sense.
💉Jiro - pegged him a 'boku' user but nope.
🎪Mio - once again, pretty boy using 'ore' is 👌🏾
🎋Zenji - as expected of my boy
Boku Users - proper little good boys; might be Peter pan.
🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰
💉Yuri - despite how highly he thinks of himself, it's 'boku' 😂 it's sort of cute
🎋Subaru - I would have almost thought 'watashi' user but 'boku' def gives him some personality
🎪Jo - very cute.
🎪Shion - him using 'boku' leads me to believe he is mothefkin crazy, genuinely 😭😂
🎪Elias - i feel like he is too grown to be talkin' bout some 'boku' but okay elias!
🎰Ritsu - if he used 'ore', i would lose it, like, what kind of lawyer???
Watashi Users - refined and proper; may be someone's mom?
🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰🟰
❄️Tohma - as expected, very watashi
🧡Haru - technically he says 'washi'. totally works with his Kansai dialect, it's so jovial. But also, is he a wise old man? Peakaboo's older papi? Lol.
Oresama is only ever used in media lol if you ever meet someone using oresama irl they should probably be avoided. Leo also uses oresama sometimes! Taiga also uses 'oira'(which can be both singular and plural and is a casual, kind of rural sounding form of 'ore') but there's no real indication as to when he switches. You can hear it most on the home screen!
Elias switches between I think boku, watashi, and oira i think? I don't remember which ones but like Taiga he also uses three different ones.
Tohma also uses 'ore', although generally only when speaking to Alan. Presumably he spoke much more roughly in Vagastrom. He has a home screen line where he uses ore as well, in the context that he doesn't have to play the part of frostheim tohma for the moment.
'Orechan' is because of Rui's gyaruo speech pattern--he's proud and masculine but also totes cutes✨! (Deadpool also uses orechan in japanese, if that tells you anything at all lmao 'orechan' is basically 'oresama' but like. Rather than 'I'm proud and confident and far far above you' it's more "yeah I'm super confident but also I want you to think I'm super cute💖!")
'Boku' isn't just boyish though, nor is 'watashi' exclusively feminine or motherly. (And 'ore', while gruff and masculine, is also just kinda standard masculine 'I' and generally is meant to show confidence. It also feels rude sometimes, which is probably why it's used for Jiro who frequently fails to notice social norms! It helps make him sound more rude!)
'Boku' is also used by professionals--doctors and such, which is why Yuri, Hyde, and I believe Nicolas all use boku. It's a somewhat humbling, nonthreatening, and/or casual way of referring to yourself. It's especially humbling bevause a kanji meaning servant(if you recall jin uses geboku to refer to mc) is the same as the kanji for boku! That's probably why Subaru uses it--he strikes you as someone polite so you'd expect a solid watashi from him yes but he's making himself sound smaller as a way of showing humbleness. In his case it's as if to say "i'm just a kid/servant so don't think too hard about what i'm saying" haha
'Watashi' is gender neutral and polite and the default 'i' for most people if you're gonna use a first person pronoun at all. In casual conversation men don't ususlly use it though and it makes them sound like. Stiff. Like if your friend spoke to you really politely all the time, it'd feel weird right? That's how 'watashi' from a man in a casual conversion can feel--obviously depending on the person using it--so it's often associated with women's speech despite being used by everyone. Watakushi is the more polite one!
