So what ARE your opinions on field vs water retting? I’m gonna farm some fiber this year

Water retting makes flax a beautiful golden color, but field retting is easier to keep an eye on.

ALSO, I've come to the conclusion that Tolkein's Teleri elves did field retting for the sails of the swan ships, because field retting leaves the flax a beautiful silvery gray, and while all flax will eventually bleach to white with washing in lye and sun the sails are supposed to be pale and the silver would suit the aesthetic better than the golden color you get from water retting. ‘Twas the night before Crablor Day, and all through the house Only one creature was stirring, and it wasn’t a mouse The treats had been left far away from the chimney with care In hopes that a little crab would not scuttle up there

The elves were nestled all snug in their beds While visions of crabs danced in their heads And the Fëanorian household in their nightclothes and caps Had just settled down for long, restful naps

When out from the hallway there rose such a clatter Maedhros sprang from his bed to see what was the matter Away to the kitchen he flew like a flash Tore open the window and threw up the sash

The moon on the surface of the pond did glow Giving a shimmering light to the objects below When what to his wondering eyes did appear But a thousand red crabs, including one he held dear

With a star on the leader’s shell, a crab so lively and quick Maedhros knew immediately this was no dream trick More rapid than eagles the other crabs came And the leader waved his claw as Maedhros called out his name

“Maglor, you better not be throwing a crab rave out there!”

Maglor, Horse Lord of the Gap

Thank you ever so much to @wings-of-indigo for giving me free rein (😌) on this commission with an equestrian suggestion, and I went with Maglor’s ridiculously romantic official portrait with his big ass horse and his equally ridiculous bridle that I posted the concept sketch video of some days back. I like to think he hired someone to be a manual wind machine for the multiple hours he must have posed for this, and, idk, made Galadriel stand on a stool just out of frame so he could get tree-lighting in a Post Darkening Arda.

I’ve never drawn a horse in my realistic style before or anywhere near as detailed but I tried my best! And thank you for suggesting I do something I’ve been wanting to try, and I realised, huh, horses actually are something I’ve never done and really want to try doing.
