Now you can understand how it sounds when i hear any siren
It's end of May, yall know what that means
So Patagonia, a company named after a place is going after environmental activist and drag queen "Pattie Gonia" over the name. And I don't think they even plan to win it since... Patagonia is a location name already. I think the plan is just to intimidate Wyn Wiley (aka Pattie Gonia) into changing her drag name. (Using she/her pronouns for the drag persona as is custom).
Patagonia--the company, not the region in South America--is claiming that Pattie Gonia is infringing on their trademark and will damage their reputation as activists.
Which really shows a lack of vision imo, because doing a deal with famous environmental activist Pattie Gonia would have enhanced their rep. Again, imo.
I don't know how they don't see this as hurting their reputation. I mean, I get that you have to defend your trademark or risk losing it or whatever. But I don't see infringement here. I'm not a lawyer, but I don't personally see it. No one buying Pattie merch was thinking it was Patagonia-brand merch. Please.
Patagonia I think assumes that they will look okay with this if they don't ask for damages, just legal fees. But corporate lawyer legal fees can equal millions, so this feels, to me, like them lowkey out to destroy the drag queen but still wanting to be considered "good people" by their customers.
Anyway, Wyn Wiley is asking people to tag Patagonia on social media and ask them to drop the lawsuit.
