Being an ally is an action, not an identity.

You can call yourself an ally all you want, but what are you doing when you hear your friend make a transphobic joke? When you see your gay coworker being harassed? When bigoted politicians come to take our rights away? When lgbtq+ people need your help?

No amount of cute pride selfies captioned with #ally #loveislove will put a stop to violence, hatred, or discrimination against lgbtq+ people.

You have to show up for us. Following lgbtq+ people online and maybe making a status post every once in a while is not enough. Attending pride is not enough. Calling yourself an ally is not enough.

You want call yourself an ally? Prove that you are one. Being an ally is an action, not an identity.
