The basic problem is that LitterMaid works best with premium clay based clump litters which could kill your cat. However, we have experimented with organic litter that clumps, and the machine operates just fine. Owners of LitterMaid that we know use equal parts fine saw dust and raw wheat chaff . You might want to use Swheat Scoop and other Organic Cat Litter brands. Problem with wheat chaff is that it spreads a lot, and the area becomes a little dusty. LitterMaid comes with a paw cleaning ramp! So you don’t really have the cat litter spread all over your home.
Cat Genie is perhaps the most well known among the automatic litter boxes available in the market, and has the unique flush away method of waste removal. Unfortunately, in some areas, you may be breaking the law if you use this particular system of automatic cat litter waste disposal system. For a very specific reason, this cat litter box somewhat unwittingly becomes a hazard to the environment.
To summarize our take on Clay Clump Cat Litter and Silica Gel Crystal Cat Litter: the first one is very likely to seriously harm your cat, even causing death if not treated in time, and the second one shows evidence that it is best avoided if there are alternatives. From the point of view of being eco friendly, neither is biodegradable, and adds to landfills, and the process of strip mining adopted to extract the main component of most clay based cat litter virtually mutilates the surface of the earth. Once again, both are best avoided if there are alternatives. This article lists organic cat litter alternatives that you can use for manual scooping as well as in LitterMaid LM900 Mega Self-Cleaning Litter Box.
Even cat litter that is biodegradable finds it difficult to degrade in a landfill since the waste is packed too tightly for oxygen to circulate optimally. One can only imagine what happens to the non biodegradable variety of cat litter that must be packed in a similar way. No one stores used cat litter at home. Just visualize the amount of cat litter that gets to landfill every single day, not to mention the amount of cat litter that ends up there in a year.
Do You Really Want Your Cat to Use Your Toilet?
I have more than two dozen cats. That is mostly because I volunteer for an NGO and do my bit at home. I have set up a cat shelter, and a few stray cats come to have their regular meal. Some even let me pat them on the head.
I have actually taught my cats to use the human toilet.
Unfortunately, due to their large number, I have not been able to get rid of the litter boxes. Still, there is less stink, and I have less poop to scoop. If only the cats would learn to stand in line and use the toilet one by one! My cousin's cats have their own table fan which they turn on and off all by themselves. Didn't quite get that far with mine. But thanks to Andrew Heil's book, most of my cats are now human toilet trained. Previously I tried to take tips from all over the Internet. They helped, and investing a lot of time and effort, I was able to train two of my cats before I gave up for the lack of time. Andrew does have quite a few tricks in his book, some of them so obvious and simple that he actually had me saying "Now why didn't I think of that!".
Here are some of the things that caught my eye when reading about his book:
The three P’s of toilet training – follow these three simple steps and your cat will be using the toilet in no time!
The 8 most common cat toilet training methods – and how to determine which one is right for your cat (this is essential information, if you choose the wrong method and have to switch later your cat will be much harder to train)!
12 pro’s of toilet training your cat – you may be very surprised at what you read here!
17 cat breeds that are the easiest to toilet train – plus, 12 breeds that require slightly different training methods when toilet training them!
10 things you must consider before deciding to toilet train your cat – ignore this information and your training efforts will surely fail, no matter how hard you try!
The hardest part of toilet training a cat – and how to overcome this obstacle as fast as possible!
The golden rule of training cats to use the toilet – more than anything else, you must read this!
How old a cat should be before you start training them to use the toilet – find out why you should never, ever risk toilet training a cat that is too young!
13 tips that will make the training process easier than you probably ever imagined possible – these tips will help you put your cat on the fast track to success!
How to get started toilet training your cat in five easy steps – follow these steps and your cat will be using the toilet faster than you ever imagined possible!
What to do if your cat is resisting your training – if things aren’t going well, you can use this incredible tip to get your cat back on track to success!
How to teach your cat to balance on a toilet seat – after reading this fantastic tip, you are sure to slap your forehead and say “Now why didn’t I think of that?”
How to teach your cat to actually flush the toilet – follow this tip and you’ll be amazed at how easy this is to do!
The best treats to reward your cat with during training – using the right treats can make a big difference in your cat’s progress, find out the best ones to use here! I’ve also included a bonus of 100 cat recipes that make wonderful treats!
To be honest, I gave his book a try at least partly because of his very generous money back guarantee and the fact that he sells through clickbank. Clickbank, as we all know, never misses a payment or a refund. I knew my money was secure in their hands for eight weeks while I tried to find out if Andrew was up to the mark. That is correct, EIGHT WEEKS! If you are not satisfied after eight weeks, you get a full refund. I just hope nobody cheats him. It would be so easy to keep the book and ask for a refund. It is a digital download after all: you pay and you download. And if not satisfied, you ask for a refund. Clickbank refunds you - not that Andrew Heil is not trustworthy.
Plus there are the bonuses with the purchase... :p
Anyway, back to my original question: do you really want your cat to use your toilet? Absolutely NOT. That is, unless they learn to flush. Fortunately, this book shows you how to teach your cat that as well, not something I found described elsewhere in such easy to learn & train terms.
Do visit my site for information on cat and cat diseases and cures, and how to take care of your furry friends when there is no doctor available. Everything on my site is from my own experience. I do wish there had been less of such experience, but I don't suppose it works that way. If I have lost some of my dear ones because I had been ignorant, you can learn from my mistakes, should you face a similar situation, though I hope to God you do not.
And if you are interested in Andrew's book - it has been doing quite well since 2007 - then I have a complete section in my site HERE. Here is an image of his book:
Hope to see you around... :)
