“I said,” Blake continued on from before, shaking his head as he lit his cigarette. “Just pick at random. Close your eyes and then forget about it. Whatever you do, it’s going to be a bad outcome. There’s nothing we can change. We’re sitting ducks.” His pessimism came from a place of torment, tired of seeing the people he loved suffering. “It’s hard but… We can’t let ourselves feel guilty for what we can’t control.”
Kara sighed gently as she put her phone away, crossing her arms with a shrug of her shoulders. “God, our whole situation really feels hopeless when you say it like that,” she gave a weak chuckle. Frowning slightly, she shook her head. “I don’t. Feel guilty, I mean.” A lie. One she wasn’t confident Blake wouldn’t pick up on. “There’s no use in it when the one to actually blame is the fucked up person forcing us to make these decisions and then carrying them out.” That was what she’d been trying to convince herself of since the incident with Tatiana anyway. She’d be damned if it didn’t still make her feel like a shitty person. And she never thought she was a particularly good person to begin with.
