alright alright alright i wanna talk about the after credit scene with the economos forehead kiss.

a long time ago I made this post about adrian’s connection to physical touch. basically, adrian doesn’t entirely understand physical touch for the purpose of comfort and primarily sees touch as something utilitarian. and i wanna talk about how this shows up in season 2, because this moment with economos is the first time we’ve seen adrian make physical contact with anybody this season.

the most notable moment from s1 when it came to the discussion of adrian’s discomfort with physical touch was the “tender, nice touching” moment with chris. and we see him having that hesitant moment again with economos at the end of episode 3. after he yanks his pants off, he does give him a gentle pat on the side of his knee. but it’s not comfortable, he hesitates and they’re quick little taps. it’s like he knows it’s what he should do but isn’t entirely sure why. he’s modeling behavior, just like he did with chris.

but the forehead kiss? his only hesitation there is making sure john doesn’t wake up, his tiny whispered “sleep well” and the barest of forehead kisses show care and consideration for the delicacy of the moment. i personally love the theory that his mom kissed him on the forehead when he was feeling sick as a kid so he thinks it’s like a cure all.

because historically, adrian does not touch people if there is not an express purpose for it. earlier in the same episode, he had no problem shoving his fingers down economos’ throat with no hesitation because the point was clear: he needed to make sure he was alive and not aspirating on vomit.

adrian has never confidently made physical contact with any character unless there was a clear express purpose. touch as a method of comfort is entirely alien to him, and it’s why he’s so stilted both times he attempts it.

so the forehead kiss, that had some sort of purpose to adrian. he wasn’t kissing economos for funsies, that really and truly was a necessary punctuation to his act of care in that moment. and i just love to think about that.

would like to bring to everyone’s attention something i just noticed on my fourth peacemaker rewatch. the context of this gif of adrian that gets added to posts ALLLLL the time, it’s when chris is giving john a list of people he could have framed instead of his father. chris says “ozzy osbourne, SHARON osbourne!” and then the camera cuts to adrian giggling to himself. i never caught this before but he’s giggling because that’s the name of his fake pregnant girlfriend from episode one!!!! when he’s talking to dave!!! so he’s having a little giggle remembering the shitty lie he told!!!!
