Okay motherfuckers, let me tell you a little something about flint. My dad is a regional emergency medical planner. He used to work for FEMA in the government, and has been helping in flint for a grand total of fifteen weeks. I'm just going to give it to you straight because there's no use sugar coating it: flint is not a good neighborhood. It's one of the top ten in crime. It's honestly not news if someone gets shot, or damaged, or hurt in flint. Now I understand that while this may or may not be true, everytime a rumor gets spread around flint, a little room full of people trying to educate the rest of flint to trust the people trying to help them gets harder. They have to stay longer for every single rumor spread. In fact, because of political season, flint is no longer an emergency. There are people down there helping, and most of the people down there could in fact be sent home since what they do is EMERGENCIES. But the government hasn't because it doesn't look good. Now my father is stuck there being overworked, he barely has weekends. And even now, when he comes home he talks to me about the new rumors keeping him there. Can we please just calm down? The people in flint working to help the community respond are good people who are just trying to get people to take filters and water, so they don't have to deal with the lead problem. But with every rumor spread, there's less and less trust towards those people, and more people refuse the water filters that would keep them healthy. They've been working for a long time. They're tired and frustrated from trying to transition to long term, and their work suffers for it. Please bring them home by trying to control rumors, and checking sources. -Karakat-rantas

The Thousand Hand Bodhisattva Dance

Performed by China Disabled People’s Performing Art Troupe, the Thousand Hand dance is a portrayal of Guan Yin (Chinese: 觀音菩薩), an East Asian spiritual figure of mercy, the Goddess of Mercy, and a bodhisattva associated with compassion.

The thousand hands represent Guan Yin’s many abilities to render assistance. There are a thousand eyes on these hands which give her great powers to observe the world.  Guan Yin also has many faces so she can become who people need her to be, not necessarily herself, because her help is given in a way that is literally selfless.

All members of the dance troupe are hearing impaired.
