Today is the anniversary of the first time we ever laid eyes on our son, Shelby. 21 years ago today we walked into Yekaterinburg Orphanage #2 and met a little blonde-haired, blue-eyed boy who changed our lives forever. We were told he was shy and would not come to us but he immediately leapt into my arms and this first photo was snapped within seconds of that leap when he grabbed hold of my shirt. About 2 minutes later, he peed on me, marking his territory forever. Cindy has him in the next photo in a different outfit because of that marking. We are forever grateful to the young woman who gave birth to him and knew she could not give him the life he deserved so she made the choice to gift him to another family. Buddy, we love you more than words can ever express and we are so proud of the young man you are becoming. Cannot believe you are a Senior in college. How did that happen? Gotcha Day is Sept. 5 because he was not officially ours until then. But this is a special day in our family - we call it "First Sight Day."
