season 2 of strangerthing is not perfect but it gave us or at the very least significantly expanded upon:

el and hopper

max like as an entire character she did not exist in season 1 how scary is that ...

max and lucas

steve and dustin

actually dustin and lucas in general. u rewatch s1 and ur like dang i forgot how little dustin and lucas are involved/given individual focus here. they were elevated from pseudo main character to actual main character status only once we reached s2

the byers (both the individuals & their dynamics as a family) still at the center of the story

nancy's grief and anger over barb's death and the ensuing coverup

nancy's journalistic endeavors and passion for justice, stemming from the above

"babysitter steve"/steve's continued character development

and fuck it i know in execution it was weirdly paced heavily flawed etc etc but i really enjoyed learning more about el's origins & mother & trauma and watching her begin to work through all that & figure herself out and i think it was definitely worthwhile despite the pacing and whatever. and they should have committed to punk(-adjacent) el in season 3. #FuckSeason3

also i should make a separate post abt this but joyce and lucas's attempts to connect with someone previously uninvolved in The Horrors without endangering them (bob and max respectively), how it unfolds for the both of them, and what that may signify about any of their chances in moving on from The Horrors is a really intriguing and moving theme and im mad that s3 essentially dropped it (and in doing so rendered bob's existence (or at least audience perceptions of it) nothing but a means to a shallow and unnecessary death. like omfg once again #FuckSeason3)

um sorry those last 2 points were really long but honestly building off of them both i feel like there's a lot of interesting character details + flaws, inner and interpersonal conflicts, etc that were introduced and/or explored in season 2 just to wind up clumsily wrapped up or entirely abandoned the moment season 3 kicks off BUT this is supposed to be a lovepost not a hatepost so let me end it here. i love you season 2. lets all hold hands and love season 2
