gotta give it to devil's minion, they know how to have fun on their first date
The funniest thing about Armand and Daniel leaking the Gabistat sex tape is that they had to have had a whole ass conversation about setting up a funny little interview IN THE SUN just to add every insult possible to the injury.
Like when Armand dropped the Gabistat lore, Daniel was probably like, "fuck yeah, I'm gonna lob this bomb in my follow up interview" and Armand de Director Artistique said, "no beloved, I have a more elaborate idea."
I find it a bit funny when I stumble upon text posts trying to either argue for how a specific character is worse than others or why someone is less "evil" than the rest. Like guys, they're all horrible. It's the show about the toxic vampires doing horrible things to each other. Surprise: they're re toxic vampires doing horrible things to each other.
We don't like these characters or these stories because we align with everyone's personal values, choices, and actions. They're complex and interesting characters, that's what fascinates us! Why are they like this? What made them do this? How will this affect them in the future?
Daniel and Armand have the same addiction.
They live for the ability to dig into someone's life and pull out the worst things, manipulate someone into revealing themselves, breaking people down for their own benefit. But I think their love stems from how hard that is to do to each other. The one person they can't break is the other.
Armand is fascinated by Daniels depth and his resistance. We saw how easily he got Larry to jump in front of that train, but Daniel resisted him for DAYS in San Francisco. No wonder he was fascinating. He is driven to distraction and the destruction of his life and the complete collapse of his moral code by that fascinating boy.
Daniel spent days trying to get at Armand in Dubai (and San Francisco I think) trying to understand his motives and break him. The pure joy on his face when he finally catches Armand in a lie. THAT is Daniels drug of choice. (We see this same high when he thinks he gets Lestat to confess everything about Nicki on tape) But Armand always manages to surprise him and throw him off. Once he thinks he's got him figured out Armand changes the game (turns him, confesses his love, etc.) Armand is the fix that keeps on giving for Daniel.
I love these insane toxic old men! They will destroy themselves for the drug of each other.
I know there are complicated feelings on Armand’s portrayal this season but I personally really love what they’ve done so far.
They did discuss bringing some of the 18th century stuff into present day and I think they have really made Armand feel like that presence Lestat could sense in the book, except he’s that for us as the audience.
And I feel like he’s been brought up constantly. Every single episode he’s been there in some capacity. Lestat mentions him to Sam during the recording. Muse!Nicki says they slept together over 400 times in one episode and implies Lestat loved Armand more than him in another. Lestat made sure we know he mentioned him to Marius and that Marius insulted him. Lestat invited him to the pretend Akasha dinner party despite claiming to hate him. He put him in charge of music and then berated him when he (a loaf of bread) failed at the task. Lestat needed us to know about Armand’s past with Daniel. The diss track. The show. Salamander talking about him in the book. Armand is everywhere.
He’s been so present without being present and I think there’s so much power in Armand’s character in that way. He is, on every level, haunting. A vampire who should never have been made and knows how cursed he is, yet has outlived so many younger than him.
I’ve seen this sentiment echoed by other people, but Lesmand is going somewhere. Not that they’re getting back together, but Lestat loves him so much despite finding him so bothersome. He will not stop talking about him. And he’s angry right now, because this is someone he loves and pretends not to and he can never get past what was done to Claudia. He understands Armand on such an intimate level and that might even be worse than not being able to. The eternal love and the hate should contradict each other, and they do, but they also both persist. Lestat is Armand in so many ways but Claudia is still gone. Armand haunts him and he’s not even dead.
Daniel's like prove you love me and Armand's like: remember when you left your pregnant wife to do drugs? And then you fucked a student (aggressively!) and your daughter told you to fuck off for being a piece of shit? Yeah, I've been watching it all, and that's why I love you.
Now that is true fucked up gothic romance
I know some people are disappointed that the DM park scene was so short, but I keep watching it over and over and it is just so fucking loaded.
First, the fact that Daniel goes there, and that he wants Armand to prove that he loved him. The way Armand goes straight to 1990, conveniently skipping over all of the 70s and 80s. A love confession didn't work last time, it clearly scared Daniel off. But the following (chase)? The stalking? In the context of "past DM real", that worked last time. That got Daniel to fall in love with him in the first place. Maybe it will work again?
Then the face journeys they're both going on. They are dancing around each other like crazy. Both playing their cards way too close to their chests. Daniel's "yeah?" feels so much like he's waiting for that fanfic favourite "yeah" reply. A return to that verbal sparring of Dubai because he likes that and it's comfortable, but he doesn't get it. Instead he gets "love between vampires..." and he fights it with "I will never love—" and then Armand changes tack. Another self-preservation tactic.
No, it's not about them. Not at all. It's about Lestat and Sofia, because Armand knows Daniel loves a good journalistic takedown. Loves to lob a bomb. He'll want this and maybe it'll make him want Armand too. And Daniel looks disappointed that maybe Armand doesn't want him, doesn't want to love him anymore after all.
Meanwhile, Armand looks like he wants to say so much more but he's being so careful because last time it went badly, and every time he loves, every time he hopes to be companions with somebody they shoot him down. So it's safer to say that he wants to be Daniel's maker. That's safe. That's less vulnerable.
The entire scene Daniel is vibrating out of his skin, looking like he's fighting for his life against the instinct to go to Armand. Does he want to kill him or kiss him? He doesn't know. He's about two seconds from folding and if you held a lit match next to those two they would both fucking explode.
Sure, I wish they'd had more screen time together but there is SO MUCH MEAT on those DM bones in that scene.
armand: love between vampires can be one thing, or it can be countless things.
daniel: i will never love--
oh daniel you will.... YOU WILL
the fact that lestat still kept armand at his pretend dinner table. "Oh I despise him get me away from his desperation his kisses put me in a coma" mhm sure lestat sure but you seem mutually obsessed with him so good for you

Catch up chat with the boss
One point to me for the stalking I guess
Daniel using the parental language to distance himself from the conflicting feelings he has about Armand. Not knowing what this bond is, as well as projecting his own absent father issues. Because he doesn't know what this dynamic is supposed to look like!! And neither does Armand. He's been terrified to be a "maker"; all he's ever known is Marius. After the accidental love confession he realized he needs to step back to not scare him off (you don't woo danny boy by lovey dovey love confessions). Up your stalking game! Disturb your fledgling; that's how you got him the first time. Torture then dating/stalking.
He's trying to mold himself into a shape Daniel can know and accept!! The confession confuses Daniel but Armand Knows his boy so he offers him something he can't resist instead: knowledge, power. Anything to be a presence in Daniel's life once again!
I want to believe that there were more than interventions and stalking in the past. Call me delusional but I believe those twelve years happened!! And technically he didn't refer to those years, he only mentioned instances after the possible "breakup" (cough, mind scramble erasure) in the late 80s. But he has always Been There, Watching. The Gremlin protecting his fascinating boy.
I wonder what Oscar Wilde would've thought about Pinterest.
just watched the final episode of buffy... I had already accidentally spoiled spike's death for myself but had I hoped it wouldn't be true :'(
