Changed my tactic on this a bit and did 3 complete layers across the drawing. Will do all the black text next and then go back to develop shadows. I don’t work well finalizing as I go along. I like this pic because you can clearly see the differences in each layer, working from light to dark. Pencil outlines, followed by the lightest visible shade (being careful to avoid areas that need to remain white). 3rd and 4th layers are the next darkest shades with beginning shadows. 5th I am adding more and starting to refine, and 6th is refined with no visible paper showing through. Once the entire drawing looks like layer 6, I will go back in and adjust my lettering and deepen shadows/blacks if needed, and then I will be finished. Really really excited about this one - I am working on a new series - nostalgic props from iconic movies. I suppose it’s pretty obvious what the first one is going to be. This is a work in progress and by the time it’s done I estimate it will have taken me about 50 hours so it truly is a labor of love. This requires many many layers of pencil to achieve realism, and I work right to left simply because I am left handed and don’t want to drag my arm across finished work and ruin it!
