If I'm turning in your stomach and I'm making you feel sick
Am I making you feel sick?
*sounding as if I'm pacing in circles in an isolation cell* The Vees's float is clearly designed to be placed to the right of the Hazbin Hotel crew's because that's where Husk (who's missing Angel) is looking at, but Husk is not the only one looking in that direction: Alastor is fully facing the right. And you'd think, then, that Vox would be looking back in the direction of the Hazbin Hotel float, and that would be like a subtle interaction between them in the same vein as Husk looking at Angel. But NO!! VOX IS LOOKING THE OTHER WAY, AWAY FROM ALASTOR!!! This is foreshadowing for Vox genuinely trying to ignore Alastor and move on in the future while Alastor still expects his attention I know it I'm not delusional DO NOT SEDATE ME I'M RIGHT STATICSILENCE CANON IN SEASON 3
manifesting this to be foreshadowing for season 3 so hard. please let this not be just fan service. i mean, staticsilence community is relatively small, would they really do this just for fanservice? while huskerdust are basically doing the same thing, but we all know they are canon?
I feel like most fans prefer the subVox trope because they subconsciously want to distance themselves from the "Vox SA'd Alastor" discussions. There's this ingrained belief that a dom Vox just wouldn't care about boundaries and would do whatever he wanted. This is so far from what's happening in canon and it takes away so much of the complexity of their dynamic. It's so easy to go: "Vox is submissive. That's why he didn't full on SA Alastor in the show. It's because he secretly wants to be dominated." Instead of exploring the nuance of: "Vox is a dom, and still, despite enjoying inflicting pain on others, he didn't full on SA Alastor. Because he respects him. Because he didn't want to."
Him making Alastor watch probably didn't even register in his brain as SA. As someone who gets empowered by keeping his eyes on everyone and everything, he wouldn't consider watching to be a traumatic experience. Besides, it wasn't even about the sex. It was about embarrassing Alastor and boosting Vox's own ego in a "look what you could have had" way. He literally SAYS that to him barely ten seconds after the act. Him and Alastor have done far worse to each other anyway that he wouldn't really consider that scene in the top ten worst. It's both a conscious effort to respect boundaries and not take it too far, as it is him not understanding some boundaries (for example, the shoulder touching. It never even occured to him that it was bothering Alastor). Also, Vox would NEVER openly admit to desiring Alastor; he puts all the effort into pretending Alastor means nothing to him which only furthers Alastor’s belief that Vox never saw him as a friend. It's the REASON why they still can't resolve their misunderstanding. There's so many misconceptions about Vox's characterisation that even years later, the fandom still can't understand him.
you are playing with an imaginary toy in an imaginary sandbox. fandom is all about having fun and letting your imagination run wild. canon is only a suggestion, not a rule. how much of canon you will follow, if any, is entirely up to you.
please stop trying to apply rules on hobbies and something that’s supposed to be your comfort place and a form of self-care.
“is it okay if I think this” “is it okay if I imagine that” it’s YOUR little world that you create for yourself and your own enjoyment. you literally do not need strangers’ opinions or permission when it comes to a hobby that doesn’t harm or affect anybody in real life. again, it’s YOUR imagination, YOUR world, YOUR creation. you have all the power and the freedom to:
headcanon whatever you want, however you want
ship whatever you want, however you want
write whatever you want, however you want
draw whatever you want, however you want
create whatever you want, however you want
reject whatever you want, however you want
as long as you’re not harming anybody in real life, how you have fun with fictional characters and your imagination is no one’s business but your own’s.
last but not least: fiction is not, and will never be, a reflection of your real-life moral compass. what you like in fiction does not reflect who you are in real life as a person. kill that cop in your head.
it only got worse...
Can't stop imagining Radiostatic dancing to "Tonight You Are Mine" by The Technicolors. Send help.
It’s the fact that Alastor hates modern technology but still knows exactly what he needs to film a commercial. The fast that there’s a very noticeable shot where he’s leaning up against a television. Where he tells Vaggi to never ask him to use that technology again but then the next episode he doesn’t hesitate to use the Voxtek watch to contact Vox the moment everyone else leaves the room as if that moment had to be private.
It’s the way that sir pentious had ripped a piece of fabric off of Alastor & he was ready to kill him yet he let Vox get that close to him back then. It’s the way Alastor’s eyes logically shouldn’t dilate when he looks at Vox but his eyes do.
It’s the way Alastor aims for Valentino first even though he’s supposed to be fighting Vox. It’s the way alastor doesn’t bother talking to Valentino but needs to make sure he hears how close Alastor used to be. The way he’s glaring at the fact that Vox was flirting w his partner but is immediately pleased when Vox looks at him when fighting with Valentino.
The way he insists that Vox is obsessed with HIM. Vox needs HIM. When it’s shown time & time again that Alastor projects his own feelings & insecurities onto Vox. It’s the way he sees the hotel gang gathering together to drink and says “it almost makes one sentimental” & then one of the only times we see him drinking is with that damn 50’s pill mic on his vanity. Alone. In his room.
Its the way Alastor insists that Vox was the one who ruined everything confirming there was in fact something between then that could be vulnerable enough to be ruined
OH HES INSANE HES INSANE HES CRAZY
"Why would I cry over Vox?? No HE'S the one who was crying, not me, Rosie... please... get it straight."
You're not slick Mr. Talai
I just realised that given that Angel Dust died in the 40s, he would have overlapped with both Alastor and Vox being successful entertainers. And we know that Angel Dust resolutely does not pay attention to Overlord politics, so I think it's very funny to imagine that he's aware of this New Orleans radio host he heard sometimes on special broadcasts as a kid, and yeah, he remembers some Vincent Whittman man who read the news and he has absolutely not put two and two together for either of them.
Another point about 1x08 and Alastor's song
So this amazing post already pointed out that Al thinks of Vox in the moment when Adam has injured him and has put him in danger.
But another thing I noticed in "Show Must Go On": When Al is alone and freaking out about losing, there's a part of the song where he seems to be talking to someone.
""Great Alastor, altruist, died for his friends"?/Sorry to disappoint... That is not where this ends!"
Sorry to disappoint who? It's easy to assume on a first watch he's just breaking the fourth wall, but given that he's freaking out in his radio room and he just noped out while looking for Vox...
I think it's safe to say he's talking to his rival. Sorry to disappoint you, Vox, but I'm not dying a hero.
(Oh also that "friends" thing again. Hmm, wonder if that word + Vox is a real trigger for Alastor.)
In Stayed Gone I think it’s super super interesting that Vox calls Alastor a coward and Alastor calls Vox insecure
Even if we the audience now know Alastor is a coward(cause he is btw) it’s interesting that Vox calls him one. It’s easy to dismiss in S1, thinking that Vox is just saying bullshit but I don’t think so. It’s almost like the “tantrum” Vox threw after Alastor said no definitely included something about Alastor being scared. Like Vox thinks he’s a coward for pushing him away.
And so it would make sense that Alastor is like on the defensive like no you’re just insecure and you threw a fit about it cause you couldn’t handle the rejection.
Idk man super interesting choice of insults
Cool foreshadowing
Drew some art inspired by @duckiewashere ‘s fic “all sharks go to heaven”
The idea of Vox being a marine biologist/steve Irwin type media figure was so interesting to me I had to do a little drawing for it! (Plus getting to draw some cute sharks was not something I could pass up!)
AL'S LOOKING AT VOX BUT VOX ISN'T PAYING ANY ATTENTION TRUST OKAY STATICSILENCE IN SEASON 3 STATICSILENCE IN SEASON 3 IM MANIFESTING THIS WE NEED THIS Also is his body being back hinting at him getting his body back in s3 or is it just for pride hmmmmmmmm
casual married husband talk
My favorite part about RadioStatic is how much they're paralleled throughout the show.
But I would EAT TS UP EVEN MORE if Alastor EVER paralleled THIS specific scene here:
Like imagine Alastor CRYING ( in general tbh ) because his internalized obsession with power and control and his need to be feared and respected starts to ooze through his "nonchalant" persona?
Yeah, bitch I'm fucking SAT.
The Follow-Up to Stayed Gone
Continuing a rewatch of S1 and another New Thing...
So at the end of 1x02 Al grabs Vox's screen and tells him "You'll have to try harder than that" after destroying him on camera, etc.
Generally it's assumed we get no comeback from Vox to all of this until the finale, but in the next episode:
First, Velvette goes to the meeting instead of Vox, presumably because Val can't be trusted there and Vox is avoiding Alastor/wants to send him a 'fuck you' message.
Velvette is on the phone with him when she walks in and makes that very clear. Then she says this:
All a joke. As in, Alastor. Since he's one of the "All", presumably. And to add to that, when Carmilla asks about whether her "colleagues" will be joining:
So yes, I think this is Vox's return message to Al's little rampage n Episode 2. "I have better shit to do than listen to you" and "You're a joke", delivered secondhand through Velvette. Presumably this is Vox trying to have the last word. Also maybe Velvette helping her bestie, which is kind of awww.
But yeah, Vox trying to be like "lalalala I don't care you're a joke I've got better shit to do". Which presumably, Al believes about as much as we do, so, you know. Sorry honey. You tried.
(BTW after close-reading Al's irritation in SG about Vox pretending he doesn't need him. Hmm....)
