I've been asked to make a book for a writer out of loose leaves of paper. I didn't want to stab bind them so looked into a type of coptic bind with single sheets. Here's a maquette I've made to show her... it's a start but I think it looks OK so far. The theme is Forest so I've gone for thin wooden covers. When I make the real thing I think we may source actual wood from the New Forest.

I’ve been working on this little print to go in the keepsake pack at the British Printing Society convention at the end of April. What started as a bit of fun turned into a pig of a job. A rogue $ instead of an S and an upside-down H were the least of my problems. Did you spot the double IS? That required a late night reprint The final line of printing at the bottom of the print took around 4 hrs and a cry for help to get right. Well it’s all done. Hopefully it will raise a smile. Right now I don’t care if I never see it again!

Various deadlines are looming. I just made this three colour screen print for the 2020 print exchange. It's from a drawing in my sketchbook with a halftone screen. The image is of Trethevy Quoit in Cornwall.

Just a practice piece, hastily cut. Two block woodcut. I visited Trethevy Quoit in Cornwall this summer. It blew my mind. I made a load of sketches and I need to work them up pretty soon.

I spent the weekend at Shepherds Bookbinders in London learning how to make a Solander Box, which also gets called a clamshell box. I learned loads of new skills and lots of tips and tricks to get a perfect finish. Hopefully I can remember it all!

I recently went to a huge type sale. In this case , sadly, the owner of the type had died and his family were disposing of an amazing life collection. It was really daunting actually. He was obviously an avid collector. Oddly much of the type was unwrapped and still with its postal labels. So I assumed he was more of a collector than a printer. These photos are of some of my purchases. Particular favourites are the two numbering boxes and the numbered arrows. And look at that Harold Berliner packaging!

D is for Dumpling

Linocut made for a Shanghai Alphabet which is part of an exhibition To Shanghai with Lovei. This is being exhibited along with the rest of the alphabet at the Shanghai Institute of Technology from 22 June - 10 July

This letterpress poster is one of the prints I am going to submit to the Southampton City Art Gallery exhibition 'This Sporting Life' Made using vintage wooden type of unknown typefaces.

Made this small card on my Adana 8x5. Printed with Gill Sans 30pt and an unknown Italic serif typeface 48pt. I think it needs a linocut on top before it reaches the rest of the world.
