i always reblog pro wasp propaganda to spite my phobia
I'm really obsessed with bees and wasps, and last year I met a new friend in uni who not only was scared of them to death, but also hated them. Like really hated, she was the "I wish wasps just went extinct" type of person.
And this recently I was talking to her and mentioned her fear of bees and wasps. And she said: "you know, I really hated them my whole life. But then I met you and you talk about bees and wasps so much, they bring you so much joy. And it changed my view of them completely"
Turns out she just couldn't look at these insects in the same hateful way since meeting me. Not only because they bring happiness to someone important to her (me), but also because I showed her how cool, smart and important wasps and bees are.
Sometimes it takes just one happy nerd to change someone's views from hatred to respect.
Posting wasp propaganda because my ass is seething yo!
Update! Edited background to be lighter for better legibility, usually use grey backgrounds for artwork and forgor that it probably wouldn’t be great to read!
More than anything else, gardening has taught me how sweet and beautiful and unique and important wasps are
they are unapologetically my favorite bugs and I will coexist with them as long as I live
ive been going out late at night alone to wander about until i find somewhere to spend money needlessly. which i think is a classic sign of a positive mental state

omg it’s the vitamin
"Date:August 23, 2025 Source:University of Oxford Summary:Scientists have developed a breakthrough food supplement that could help save honeybees from devastating declines. By engineering yeast to produce six essential sterols found in pollen, researchers provided bees with a nutritionally complete diet that boosted reproduction up to 15-fold. Unlike commercial substitutes that lack key nutrients, this supplement mimics natural pollen’s sterol profile, giving bees the equivalent of a balanced diet. Key findings: By the end of the study period, colonies fed with the sterol-enriched yeast had reared up to 15 times more larvae to the viable pupal stage, compared with colonies fed control diets. Colonies fed with the enriched diet were more likely to continue rearing brood up to the end of the three-month period, whereas colonies on sterol-deficient diets ceased brood production after 90 days. Notably, the sterol profile of larvae in colonies fed the engineered yeast matched that found in naturally foraged colonies, suggesting that bees selectively transfer only the most biologically important sterols to their young."
Is it just me or is "up to the end of 3 months" the same thing as "ceased after 90 days"?
I've seen this a couple times in the notes, so I'll clarify. The study period was 3 months long. The implication of that sentence is that the control has stopped production by 90 days, but that the experimental group was still going and likely would have continued to produce afterwards, but the study didn't keep studying (and possibly by their protocol had to euthanize the colony), so they can't SAY that, because they're scientists and they're reporting results. They can say "they were still going when we stopped studying" though. This also leaves the door open for further studies with parameters to study how long they continue to produce, but that would depend on further grant money, amongst other things.
friends asked me to draw a bee with a binky here you guys can have it too
