We made a graduation pact. Since 2011, our writing group committed to weekly meetings, Kendra, Michelle, Aleia and I edited and gave feedback on each other's work, life, mental health and department politics. We vowed to keep the group going until each of us defended our dissertations and graduated. On the far left is Kendra, who was the first to finish. After she got her PhD, she kept her word and stayed in the writing group one more year. Five years later, now we're each set for commencement. Here we all are: Dr. Barber, Dr. Beadle-Holder, Dr. Buford and Dr. Clark-Fobia. I trust these scholars with my life. #graduation #sisterhood #scholarship
