Final Fantasmic Farewell!

On Mon 12th Aug, me, Amy and Ema decided we would all meet in Hollywood Studios once we'd finished work to go and see Fantasmic for the final time as a group :( Once we all arrived, including Ty (a friend of Ema's), we went for a pizza planet, before heading off to see the show.  Originally we had planned to go see the 10:30pm showing to give us more time, but Ty and Ema were mysteriously insistent on us going to see the 9pm one, so off we went. All me and Amy were told was that something special may be happening in the first show - confused and intrigued, me and Amy were desperately looking at every minor detail of the show to find anything different.  By the time it ended, we were none the wiser! But still Ema and Ty were being rather secretive.  They were in no hurry to leave the amphitheatre, and after it had nearly cleared of people, Ty went off to speak to a cast member, before calling us over to follow him.

He took us to the bottom left hand corner of the amphitheatre, where we let through a little gate by another cast member and who was stood behind this very gate.....Pocahontas and Mulan from Fantasmic!!! Me and Amy were in utter shock and just stood there opened mouthed, not knowing what to say. Pocahontas came over, gave us all a big hug and had a lovely chat, before we had some photos and left.  It was such a lovely surprise organised by Ty and completely made our evening......well...for the moment - as more surprises were to come!

After this, we decided that we'd go to see the 2nd showing of fantasmic, as for the 1st one we were right at the back and didn't have a very good view.  Whilst stood in line, Ty once again went off to speak to a cast member.  We were then called over and told that we had VIP seats to watch the 2nd show. Asking Ty what he'd said, he told us that he mentioned it was our last time watching Fantasmic before our program ended and wondered if they could make it extra special for us. We then chatted and to the cast member who'd organised the VIP seats and thanked him massively for what he was doing who replied....'well you've entertained us, so now let us entertain you.' Well that was just the icing on the cake!!!

So we watched fantasmic for the final time in our VIP seats, holding hands and sobbing throughout. We knew this was the beginning of what would be a very emotional few days, and in that moment were all feeling the same - that this had been a truly amazing experience and we weren't ready to say goodbye. I wouldn't have wanted to share that night with anyone else - it was amazing and a true magical moment that I will never forget!

Character Hunting Day.....Number 2!!

So Wed 7th August was going to be my last day off before my program finished. I therefore wanted to use this day to do all the things that I hadn't had the chance to do so far - this mainly included meeting certain characters!!! I got up fairly early to go to Magic Kingdom where I met Dopey, the White Rabbit and Alice, Tinkerbell & Vidia and my two best buds....chip n dale :)  I then left around lunchtime to head over to Hollywood Studios so I could get my pictures with Jake the Pirate, Sorcerer Mickey and Handy Manny, before being back home for around 4pm! Not too bad really....just shows how much you can do when you put your mind to it!!!! I then had a slightly more relaxing evening, getting some rest before the next 7 days of work ahead of  me! :D

Roommate breakfast!!!!

On Tues 6th August, Molly had booked for us all to go to the Fort Wilderness Lodge for breakfast at the Trail's End restaurant! It was a - 'happy the Americans aren't moving' meal, although unfortunately Courtney could not make it as she was working, but was with us in spirit of course!!! 

As we got there a little early, we had a wander round the area...it was so lovely and peaceful, and definitely a nice change to all the hustle and bustle of the disney parks. The breakfast itself was really nice - would certainly recommend! It had similar food to that of the other breakfast buffets around disney, but had a much more relaxed feel to it as it wasn't character dining. Our server was also hilaaaarious so made our visit even more enjoyable :)

Once we finished with breakfast and I was full to bursting with mickey waffles, sausages and bacon, me ema and amy got the bus to Animal Kingdom. There we headed to see Finding Nemo and went to meet Pocahontas. We had planned on staying longer but it was a very hot day, and we were all feeling tired, so decided to go back home for a little rest before venturing back out in the evening. I'm not gonna lie....this little break at home was basically spent watching the series 3 finale of Glee where the 3 of us sat there and cried our eyes out.......it all got a little emotional :P So to cheer ourselves up we went to downtown disney for an evening of ice cream, dancing and singing at the top of our voices to one direction, and trying on more..yes more!...princess dresses :) Not a bad day all round really..... :) :)

SURPRISES!!!!

So today (Fri 9th August) was the day my mum, dad and brother were flying out to Florida to come see me!! Woop Woop!!! They landed about 6pm, so once they'd got to the hotel later that evening, off I went to meet them.

In I walk, and after lots of hugs and squeezes from those three I'm told there is one more little surprise. And who suddenly walks out.....but Auntie Fi and Uncle Rob (my godparents and basically honorary family to us)!!!! Honestly didn't quite know what to do with myself - utterly speechless....and that doesn't happen often! Apparently this had all been planned since Christmas and NO-ONE back home knows....even my brother only found out when they were actually on the plane! I must say...they've all done very well to keep that quiet! I had no clue!!!

So after that, we went for food (well - they went for food; I sat and watched....and chatted of course) and then they dropped me back off at Chatham so they could get some well earned sleep.  Tomorrow they'll be moving into the villa, but as I don't start work till the afternoon, fingers crossed I'll be able to see them some time in the morning!

Bye bye old apartment....hello new one!!!!!

Well what a 24 hours it has been. Yesterday morning (Wed 7th Aug) Molly rang housing reporting some kind of leak in her and Courtney's bedroom, after finding her bed was wet after one very heavy storm the day before. Many different member of the housing team were sent round during the day and after much deliberating and confusion, it has ended up that all of us have to move......by Friday! And as most of us are working now up until we leave, packing up all our stuff and moving to a new apartment isn't as easy as you'd hope!

Wed night I spent packing my clothes and everything in my room - that way there was one less thing I had to do Thurs evening. Today (Thurs 8th Aug)  I was working 9am-5:30pm, so when I got home at 6pm it was straight on with the house move! Me, Amy and Meritte packed up all the food and transported it across to the new house. We then moved mine, Meritte's, Courtney's and Molly's things across before stopping to have some food around 9pm. It was then back to the packing, where we got together as much of Christina's things as we could as we knew she wouldn't be getting home until very late.

As of now, it is 11:30pm and I am finally completely unpacked in the new apartment once more.  It's weird though because in a week's time I'm going to be leaving again, so I don't really feel like I can settle in here properly....BUT! Looking on the bright side, the new apartment is closer to the bus stop, next door to the laundry building, opposite the garbage bins and is on the ground floor, so we don't have to make the treck up the stairs every day! Plus, we are very lucky in that not only did they have a spare 8 bed apartment, but one that is pretty close to our old apartment, so we have all been able to stay together for our last week and not move too far! 

Absolutely shattered now, so it's off to bed to try and get some rest before another full day at work tomorrow.......exciting news is though that my family fly out tomorrow......yep......that's right! The Merry Mathers are on their way to Floridaaaa!! So excited, so as long as they are able to get through customs quickly, fingers crossed I'll get to see them tomorrow night! Can't Wait!! :)

Disney Graduation!!!!

So Wed 31st July was the day of our disney graduation! Although I still have 2 weeks left of my programme at the time, they set two dates for graduation (30th and 31st), and anyone leaving within a certain period had to go to one of these two days. Luckily, everyone in our apartment managed to get Wed off so that we could all go together. Even the Americans came with us to celebrate even though they're not leaving for several months.....lucky things!!!

The day was to last from 10am-3pm, on the chatham square field. We got there just after 10, and already was it super busy.  First of all we cued up to get our graduation certificates and a disney international programme photo frame, and then went to get our graduation mickey ears :) We then made our way to the flag area, where our americans became honorary british and had a picture with the british flag!!!

Throughout the day free food and drinks were being served, including burgers, hot dogs, pulled pork, chicken, corn on the cob and more!!!  As well as this there was a DJ playing music and setting up little competitions which was fun! We got some food and then spent some time taking pictures of the 8 of us on one of the very rare times when we were all able to get together.

After that everyone sort of split up a little. Me, Amy and Ema cued up for the photo booth, which had a variety of silly disney hats and got some of the cutest photos ever!!! It was then that the real cueing started...and to be honest it was a bit of a nightmare. At the graduation you were able to meet Mickey & Minnie, Pluto & Goofy, and Daisy & Donald. We got in line for Mickey & Minnie and that was the rest of our day gone......2 hours we waited to see them for the quickest photo ever :/ but I know that I'll never get another photo like that so I'm not complaining too much. This took us basically up to 3pm, so unfortunately there was no time then to meet any other characters.

When we got back to the apartment, it was time to get changed and then head to Magic Kingdom to carry on the celebrations there! We managed to get our graduation ears embroided (I got 'chipmunk' on mine.......:P ), met 'THE BOSS!' and then spent the rest of the evening wandering around mainly taking lots of pictures.  Our aim was to then watch the Electrical Parade and Wishes but unfortunately due to one heck of a lightning storm the parade was cancelled, so we decided to leave a little early, as I was up at 4:30am the next morning so appreciated the early night anyway! We decided that parades and fireworks would always be there another night, so we can just carry on our graduation celebrations then!

Hard to believe that there is only 2 weeks left. As much as I don't want it to...I fear they're going to fly by :( Better start making the most of it!!

GOOD NEWS!! - We are keeping our Americans!! :D

So a couple of weeks ago our lovely 3 american roommates received an email saying that they would be moving out on the 6th August. Obviously we were all very disappointed by this, as we aren't leaving till the 16th, and so wanted to all be together right up until this point.   However!!! Yesterday (2nd Aug) another email was sent saying that they would be staying where they are, and that new people would be moving in after we leave - WAAAHOOOO!!!! So thankfully, the 8 of us are getting to stay together for a little longer :) To celebrate, Molly had made us all a 'happy the americans aren't moving' cake.........because you just can't celebrate without cake :P

In other news, I successfully managed to set the fire alarm off while cooking a pork chop the other night - truly one of the most horrific noises I have ever heard an alarm make! Nearly gave myself a heart attack in the process too, but with some clever wafting of a tea towel by me I managed to make it stop before someone came to cart me away..... :D  In addition to this, I have had my first experience of Cici's!!!!! When I got home from work on the 2nd Aug, Ema suggested we go, and after my trauma of waiting over an hour for a bus home from hollywood studios, I couldn't refuse. So off me, Ema, Amy and Molly went for all you can eat pizza, pasta and salad - and then of course not forgetting the substantial amount of brownies that we may have brought away with us in some discretely wrapped napkins ;) With our disney discount, it meant we paid about $6 so can't complain really! Was definitely a good end to my day :D

Disney Voluntears

Running along side the disney college program is something called 'Disney voluntears'. Several times a week, people on the college program can volunteer to go and help out at 'Give Kids the World'.  So on Thurs 25th July, me and Ema went along. Everyone is given a disney voluntears t-shirt and then we are driven to the give kids the world village.

It is a place where children with terminal illnesses and their families can go to stay for a week or two, as a sort of rest-bite care.  The village is amazing - so child friendly and nothing like I have ever seen.  When staying in the village, families are free to do what they want - there are activities for them within the village but they can also go out by themselves should they want to.  When we arrived, we had some time to spare, so were told to go to a place where we could get free pizza and drinks! After some tea, we then went back to base to find out what we would be doing.

Every Thursday evening they have a christmas night! The streets are decorated with christmas things, children can go visit santa, and there is a christmas parade. So guess what we got to do.......we were IN the parade! Everyone was given costumes (I was a candy can girl), and we walked through the village before finishing at the centre where music was playing and we had a little christmas dance partaaaaay! Throughout this we were just able to go around, dancing and interacting with the children.  I ended up finding a family from Doncaster no less (I'm from Sheffield, so it's about 30mins away from me!) and pretty much spent the whole time talking with them. They were so lovely, and I think found it quite comforting to be able to speak to someone from near home.  After half an hour, we were told to go back in, changed, helped bring down the decorations and were brought back home.

Going to Give Kids the World was such an amazing and humbling experience.  I felt so privileged to have had the chance to go and do that, and is certainly something I will never forget.  The work they do there and they support they provide for those families is so valuable and I am just so glad that I was able to be a part of that for a little while! Definitely a night to remember forever :)

Grand Floridian Character Breakfast!

On thurs 25th July, me, Ema and Courtney had booked into the Grand Floridian Character Breakfast. I had never done any kind of character dining so needless to say was a liiiiiiitle bit excited :D  (Although was a little annoyed at being woken up at 7am by one of the worst thunderstorms I have ever witnessed - on my day off!) But anyway...we arrived fairly early, so went for a little wander around the resort which is beeeeautiful! Would be my dream to stay in there for just one night! - may have to win the lottery first though! :P Before entering the restaurant we had our picture taken by a photopass photographer and were then seated!

The food - YUM!! Mickey waffles, sausages, bacon, eggs (any kind you like to order), pancakes, fruit, pastries......may have eaten a slightly unexceptable amount - but hey! I'm in America :D

And then of course there were the characters. We met Pooh, Tigger, Alice, Mad Hatter and Mary Poppins who were all so lovely :) The restaurant had such a nice relaxed atmosphere and the cast members so helpful - as always :)

Was so glad I had the chance to go - and since then I have found out that I have my first ever shift at The Grand Floridian on Thurs 1st Aug, hanging out with my best friend pooh bear, so looking forward to that even more now :D

Four Parks in One Day Challengeeee!!!

This week (21st - 27th July), I have been at Hollywood Studios all week, spending lots of time with my good friend Jake the Pirate. He is so much fun, and the kids love him, so I've really enjoyed working with him!

On one of my days off however (Wed 24th) me, Ema, Meritte and Natalie all had a day off, so decided to attempt the 4 parks in 1 day challenge!!! Christina and charlotte also joined us for a bit, but we gradually lost those as they had to go to work in the afternoon.  We took it fairly relaxed, so only set off at 10am - I suppose if we'd gone earlier we would have got more done but we had a great day anyway, and it meant it wasn't too tiring!

We began the day at Animal Kingdom, and of course just as we got off the bus, it started to pour it down. So we took shelter and waited for it to stop! We then headed to see Finding Nemo the Musical - and of course, it was amazing as always (not gonna lie - did sing my through it....pretty sure everyone else appreciated that :P). By the time this finished it was alround 12:30pm, so we left the park and got on a bus to Magic Kingdom where we decided we would have lunch. Of course as we arrived...it poured it down again (...can you see a theme here...). So once again we took shelter, and then made our way to the Tomorrowland Terrace for some lunch!

This was all we had time for in Magic Kingdom, so it was back to the monorail to go to Epcot. This was where we lost Charlotte, as she was working in Hollywood Studios.  When we got to Epcot we went to meet Mickey, Minnie and Pluto in the character spot, and then worked our way round the world showcase.  That day Prince George had been named so there were some fab drawings in England in celebration of this, so we were quite excited about that!  While at Epcot Christina had to leave us to go to work in Magic Kingdom, and we left around 5:30pm so we could get to Hollywood Studios for 6pm.  

Our reason behind this was that the fantasmic characters come out at 6pm in the Streets of America - it's not advertised so not many people know about it, but it's a chance to meet characters you wouldn't normally get to. So we got to meet Genie, Aladdin & Jasmine, and Pinnocchio and Gippetto :) After all this excitement, we went to the drawing class in the Animation building.  This was something I've never got to do before but was soooo much fun! Every class they draw something different, and we got to do Russell from UP. Definitely going to go back again in the hope of getting a differerent character :)

It was then time for food, and Fantasmic ;) Unfortunately the 9pm showing was cancelled. We weren't sure whether the 10:30pm one was going ahead, so we went on Star Tours, before heading back to check. Luckily for us,  the 10:30 one was back on so we got to finish off our fab day with our favourite show!!!! All in all....a pretty good day :D

Character Hunting Day!

So this last week (14th - 21st July), was Long Lost Friends Week in Magic Kingdom. This was a limited time magic event, where characters were brought out that you would not normally be able to meet.  On wednesday (17th July), both me and Ema had a day off, so we got up nice and early to make our way to Magic Kingdom for opening. Unfortunately we just missed the welcome train, but we did manage to get straight into the lines to meet the long lost friends characters.  They were all located at the top of main street, so it was easy to move from one group to the next. We started with robin hood, friar tuck, sheriff of nottingham and prince john, then headed to Dr. Facilier and Louis (from Princess and the Frog) - who might I add is one of THE cutest things I've ever seeeeeeeen!!! After this, we saw chicken little and abby mallard, all finished off brer rabbit, brer fox and brer bear!

Once we'd got through all the long lost friends, we decided to carry on with our character hunting, so got fastpasses for the storybook princesses to meet Rapunzel, Princess Aurora and Cinderella.  On our way out, we caught Mary Poppins who was all on her own in a little corner, so we thought we'd keep her company for a little bit :)  

Then it was off to Pete's Silly Sideshow to meet Daisy, Minnie, Donald and Goofy :) 

After this, we went to meet Amy and her parents and headed to Pecos Bill for some lunch, before we found a spot for the afternoon parade. Unfortunatley due to the weather, the normal parade didn't happen so they had to do their 'rainy day parade', which although is not as good as Celebrate A Dream Come true, it was still nice to see it and get some nice piccies!

Because of our busy morning, we therefore headed back home after the parade for a bit more of a relaxing evening mainly incorporating films and oreos!!!!!! All in all...a pretty good day :D

Day off at the Florida Mall!!!

So last Thursday (11th July), I had a day off along with 4 of my other roommates (Ema, Courtney, Molly and Meritte), and so we decided that we were going to spend some of our well earned wages and hit the Florida Mall! The morning was pretty chilled - I went to the gym (that's right....I went to the gym :P ), and then hit the pool for a couple of hours to start working on that tan (I am determined to get some tan during the 3 months I am here!!!!).  After this, we set off in the afternoon, kindly driven by Molly. On our way, we English had our first experience of a thrift shop (like a charity shop only on a MUCH bigger scale). Meritte was an absolute whizz at finding little gems, and darted around the store pulling out clothes for each of us to try on. I ended up getting a nice little skirt for about $3.00 so can't complain really!!

After this, we went to Michael's. This is a craft shop (a bit like Hobby Craft) only once again, soooo much bigger and better. I honestly found it very hard not to buy everything in the store..not that I had any use for any of it..but it was all so pretty and sparkly that I was very tempted!

Finally, we then made it to the Florida Mall, and spent a good 4 hours there, going in lots of lovely shops, taking as many samples as possible from around the food court, and generally burning a nice hole in all of our wages :D By the time we left, it was 10pm and we were absolutely starving, so went to TGI Fridays for some fooood! Perfect way to end a really lovely daaaay! :D

In other news.....we have now been visited by 2 snakes outside our apartment. Not gonna lie, as much as I'm getting used to the lizards and bugs that are everywhere, don't think I shall EVER get used snakes. So now I am constantly terrified of leaving or entering the apartment on my own.....oh the joys of living in Florida!!!!

Fun at work

So I've realised that all I've really talked about on here is all the fun I've been having on my days off. I can promise you however that I have been working.....I promise!!!!! ;)

Last week (7th - 13th July) was possibly one of the best weeks of work that I've had so far, as I got to hang out with my 2 best buds Chip n Dale at the Tommorowland Dance Party not once, but twice! This was sooooo much fun!!!!! Chip in particular had the best time ever dancing the night away to all his favourite tunes with the guests! Never has a chipmunk got so down and funky to high school musical before.......... :D

 As well as this, I was able to spend some time with a new friend of mine - The White Rabbit (from Alice in Wonderland). He is so lovely and cuddly, and has some great fun with the children. One day, he was also visited by the Queen of Hearts!!! Although the white rabbit was a little scared at first, he ended up having a great time with the queen and all the guests!

Independence day celebrations!! (3rd & 4th July)

So I was very lucky and had both the 3rd and 4th July off work, so I could go and join in with all the independence day celebrations around the park.  On the 3rd, me, Natalie and Meritte decided to go to Magic Kingdom, as we knew it would be ridiculously busy on the 4th. As it was, it was still super busy on the 3rd, but we still managed to get through quite a lot.....we met Ariel, Gaston and the boss! (Mickey Mouse), went on Haunted Mansion, Big Thunder Mountain, Buzz Lightyear and the new Ariel ride, watched the afternoon parade, dance partied for a bit with Chip, Dale and the gang, and then finished off the evening by watching the special 360 degree, 4th july fireworks, which were amaaaaaazing! Truly didn't know which way to look!

On the 4th, a group of us from out apartment headed to Epcot to join in with the celebrations there. There were some truly spectacular outfits being paraded around the park, all in celebration of independence day.  As it was very very busy, we didn't get to go on many things, but instead, walked around the park, enjoying the atmosphere of it all. We did however manage to go on Soarin, and meet Aladdin and Jasmine, and Mary Poppins which was exciting :) In the evening we squeezed into a little spot around the lagoon to watch the fireworks. Epcot were doing their normal illuminations firework display, and then added on an extra 4th july celebration display. These fireworks were absolutely breathtaking, and the cheers and claps that followed were quite breathtaking. I felt very lucky to have had the chance to experience that. The only downside to the day was when leaving the park, as the roads were so busy, it took ages to not only find and get on a bus, but then actually get out of disney, due to the vast amount of people. Nevertheless, we finally got home in one piece which is all that matters, very tired, but very happy :D

Birthday Celebrations!!

On Tuesday 2nd July it was my 20th birthdaaaaay! And what better way to celebrate your birthday than in Walt Disney World! I was working in the day at Hollywood Studios with my new pal, Handy Manny, which was loads of fun! I'd then arranged to meet with some of my housemates (ema, amy and courtney) who were all going to come join me in hollywood studios after I finished work!

When I met with them I was greeted by 2 lovely surprises - first a disney birthday button (which I've aaaaalways wanted) and 4 VIP seats to watch fantasmic - EEEEKKKKK!!!

We headed to Pizza Planet (my first time there - it's amazing!) and then had fun wandering around the park, meeting green army men, colouring in pictures of pooh bear and eating ice cream, all before making our way to watch fantasmic with my new mickey ears (my birthday prezzie to myself)!!! It was amazing - AS ALWAYS! Always has been, and always will be my favourtie show at Disney, and was just the perfect way to celebrate my birthday was some lovely lovely people. Definitely a birthday I will never forget :D

Monsters University!!

So on Monday I had a nice early finish at work, and so was back home by 3pm, only to be whisked away by three of my lovely housemates to go to downtown disney to see Monsters University! Of course like with everything here, things don't always go to plan. So once we'd got to downtown we went to get some tea, at the Irish Pub, finding a nice little table to sit at outside. Of course the minute we ordered, we got caught in some kind of tropical, so were stuck sheltering (unsuccessfully) underneath this little umbrella while the waiters ran out with our food!  Needless to say we emerged from this little stom rather soggy, but nice and full from our food. We then headed off to see Monsters University which was hilarious! Definitely recommend :D

After the cinema, we went into the world of disney, where me and amy (being the tiny people that we are), decided to fulfill our lifelong dream of trying on princess dresses. So in we went, I picked up a rapunzel and tiana, amy got a jasmine and belle, and tried them on! It was the best thing ever.....especially when I very nearly got stuck in my tiana dress (aaaaawkard....), but hilarious all the same!

By the time we got home it was nearly midnight, but there was another surprise in store! At the stroke of midnight, celebrations for my birthday began, where my housmates brought out a bag of prezzies for me! It was so unexpected and a perfect end to the day!

The Kitchen Sink!!!!!!!

So last Thursday evening (26th June), me and 2 friends went and spent the afternoon in Epcot, and decided that because we were feeling a little adventerous, we would go and try the famous 'kitchen sink' and disney's Beaches & Cream.  To get to it, you go to the walk way in between the UK and France in the world showcase and keep walking. Im sure it's a lovely walk, but it was chucking it down when we went, so honestly...didn't really get to enjoy it. But there seemed to be a nice bit of beach and stuff, so I'd definitely recommend a stroll down there.

But back to the kitchen sink.....It includes: 8 scoops of ice cream, brownie, cupcake, a whole can of whipped cream, cookies, sprinkles, oreos, cherries, banana, almonds, chocolate sauce and much, much MORE!

In the menu, it says 'serves 4', but we decided to go for it anyway! We didn't eat anything before, so just went straight in for the kitchen sink. As you've probably guessed.....we didn't finish......but certainly gave it a good try! The main problem, was that all the ice cream melted into 1 think so we didn't know what we were eating. There were also some things we weren't too keen on...particularly the coffee ice cream - NOT GOOD! :( We have since found out you can request things you don't like to be replaced with something else so I'd definitely advise that for future kitchen sink challengers!

When we actually finished, I didn't actually feel that full - it was more a case of I just didn't know / like what was left! I think the best way to do it is to go as quite a large group. You can get some 'proper' food before (which also looked really nice), and then all of you get stuck into the kitchen sink for pudding, and I'm sure you'd have no problem. I know we're hoping to try that again at some point over the next few weeks!
