A vague account of Katjaloren history, as told by the locals and Chenzira. Keep an eye out for illustrated accounts of significant historical events!
The Crystal Lake forms from an aquifer of positive energy and water deep underground. The positive energy is so strong that it begins to condense into crystals of energy. This energy intensely affects the flora and fauna and even the weather to a degree, trapping the creatures and plants in an ancient state that can still be seen today.
Fluff pixies are able to form from these crystals
A river flowed from the north to meet up with the Yaakova in the south, carved out the Trench Canyons.
Protocaltaris species establishes a society along a now-extinct river
The Great City is built, protocaltaris species goes through a sort of “Fertile Crescent” time period
Continental shift northwards slowly turns the Yantha area into a desert, the big river dries up and drives the protocaltaris species southwards. Sect of protocaltaris that will become the desert subspecies remains in the desert, becoming more nomadic than their ancestors
The drying of the river exposes the canyon floor, letting loose a store of negative energy that previously was suppressed by the neutral water flowing over it.
The burst of negative energy allows the saber shieprak species to change and adapt very quickly, bringing about an intellectual revolution for the shiepraks.
Protocaltaris shamans move here and begin experimenting, end up opening up a large rift that allows the kitsune species to come through from “Earth”. Nobody but the current Depths King knows if this rift still exists or not. Small rifts had existed for millenia via Fluff Pixie travels, but none were ever on the scale of this one.
An ambitious canyon caltaris experiments with various creatures until finally creating the first individuals of the lycaskel species. Most of them died until the caltaris set them loose in the lycaskel forest, where they have lived ever since.
Chenzira opens up a rift on his side of “Earth” but then manages to find the rift opened up by the shamans. He brings the jagon species to Katjalore. They find the mostly abandoned ruins of the ancient Great City, assume that it was a massive temple complex, and settle there, using their magic to protect those who would invade.
A young kitsune nibi begins interacting with the locals and determines that he will work to eradicate any other intelligent species in order to allow his kind to flourish. This kitsune later calls himself the Depths King and is still around to date.
Over the next few centuries the caltaris spread out across the mountains and the foothills, establishing smaller villages that are more spread out due to limited resources. Caltaris with longer fur end up settling the high mountains, caltaris with shorter fur end up settling the forests. Peach fuzz caltaris remain in the desert.
Chenzira meets the Depths King but doesn’t think anything of it until a few centuries later when the Depths King begins his genocide against the caltaris species.
Chenzira interferes with the genocide, ends up driving the Depths King back to the canyons. They come to the mutual understanding that as long as the kitsune stays in the Depths, Chenzira will not interfere with his business.
Chenzira properly establishes the Sand Guardians, Fog Guardians, and the Illusion Guardians to guard the Temple Ruins.
Centuries pass and Elizabeth manages to slip through to Katjalore, establishing the surrounding country as Katjalore. Employing mostly locals (especially Chenzira and his people, as well as most all of the current staff), she builds the agency of Katjalore. This agency allowed her to figure out the world she had landed in even better, but she was just one person in a massive world. Realizing she needed more people to help out, she opened a stable portal that people can use to travel to and fro between Katjalore and any other world or dimension. Thus, the agency of Katjalore Creatures was built.
There is still much we don’t know about this world, but who knows what you might help discover!
A lineart edit custom by our resident World of Warcraft fan, @atramentouswings! Breezestriders are a lot harder to replicate than they look, even without all the fancy tack!
A lineart edit custom for @cognitive-banana! I’m pretty happy with how everything turned out on this character, and I’m happy to say Madi is happy too!
evilitachi: Rumpelstiltskin by Katjalore-Creatures
Introducing everyone to the newly developed Katjalore Horned Longhair! A bit of a mouthful, but the scientists in charge of developing this fine strain of domesticated reptile cat were just so proud of their work that they may have become a bit distracted from giving it a better name.
No matter! They assure that the important bit, personality, is locked down. They insist that the destructive tendencies of the species are rare.
Meet Bhesht, one of the jagons that has been guarding the desert home of her species for centuries with strange fog that is rumored to bring trespassers to another realm entirely. She has retired from her duty, and is now at the agency, furious at Chenzira for forgetting about her.
There might be something dwelling beneath the ocean. Something in the deep, spawned from the magic down there that created apperaks in its own image Or it could just be an old veopy legend, passed down from the ancient ones that claim to have seen the beast. They worship it as a god
The creature’s form is disputed, with the only thing confirmed is that it’s supposedly older than time.
