“Fuck off, I don’t need you to buy me an air conditioner, I’m fine. Go home.” Hannah insisted, walking the older man out to his car once everything had been unpacked in her new apartment. It wasn’t the nicest of places but, it was what she’d been able to afford with what little money she’d saved up. Her brother was already covering the cost of tuition. She wasn’t about to ask him to pay for an apartment as well. Hannah waved him off as he drove away, only then turning to see the other gawking at the sight. “Yes, I’m his sister. And no, I don’t want to be your friend.”

Katherine leaned against the brick building as she waited for one of her classmates to come out. She had been carelessly listening to her surroundings, including two people bickering back and forth. She paid no mind to this, though, that sounds being simply just that - sounds. Hearing the others comment, Kat’s head immediately snapped up. “That’s funny, because I don’t recall asking.”

Hearing the others response, Caleb released a heavy sigh, shaking his head before proceeding. “I thought we were past that.”

“No, you’re past that. I’m a bitter bitch who won’t ever get over it.” Kat stated in a rather sarcastic tone. “You never answered my question from before. Why are you here? Really, the truth now.”

“Yeah, that was when you were only getting into stupid little high schooler shit. But then you started getting into serious shit...and you cheated on me, multiple times, if I may add. So, there’s that.”

“Where are we going for our next vacation, then?” Noah asked, trying to remain future-focused for both himself and Katherine. “I didn’t even say a proper goodbye to my sister before getting on the cruise and now I’m worried that I might never see her again”, he admitted. Seconds later, Katherine was getting to her feet and pulling him into a hug; he held Katherine tightly and pressed a gentle kiss against the top of her head, deriving a lot of comfort from the close proximity. “I’m just glad that we were on the same lifeboat. I was so scared for everyone that I love that wasn’t on the boat… I’m just glad that I didn’t need to worry about you too”, he told her.

“I’m thinking Fiji. Haven’t been there yet.” Katherine said with a small smile, making a mental note to plan once they made it back to Monarch, because they are going to make it back. “You’ll see her again. I didn’t know Maddie too well, but I’m sure she’d be the one to gather an army to come find you.” she assured. Katherine had realized that she wasn’t too great at the whole comforting thing, but she was trying. She found herself smiling warmly as she felt him kiss her on top of her head, not realizing that she needed the comfort until that very moment. She hesitated slightly before pulling away. “I know this probably isn’t the time or place to talk about this...but can we talk about this?” she asked, using her hand to gesture between the two of them.

Closed Starter | Day 10

The perks of having a new phone, especially a new iPhone, was that the battery was phenomenal; but even then, Ollie was still surprised to see the his phone was still alive and functioning just fine. He attempted to stay off it in case if a miracle were to happen where he got signal, but as he felt his phone buzz, his face practically lit up with hope that maybe he had some bars in order to call someone. This light of hope was quickly diminished as he noticed that it was only a message from the one and only G, and that he in fact still did not have any signal. Reality hit him as he read the message; the group was running low on food, water, amongst other resources, and there were no signs of them getting recused any time soon. For once, G had been right…he really might just end up dying on this island. His fear and lack of hope had been more apparent now than it had since they found shore, especially as he now had to begin to say goodbye to the people he cared most about. “Hey…I-um, wanna go for a walk? We could probably use the exercise.”

“Don’t you think we need to save the calories that we’ve eaten, not burn them?” Katherine asked, laughing subtly as she looked up at her close friend. Her smile quickly disappeared when realizing that he wasn’t in much of a state, or mood, to joked around; and nodding, and quickly grabbed her sunglasses and shoes and got up. “You know? We probably can use the exercise. I still haven’t really explored much of the island yet either. Do you think there’s some sort of secret treasure somewhere?” she asked with a smile, beginning to lead the two away from the others. It wasn’t like Ollie to be quiet, yet alone hesitant while speaking, so she found herself being immediately concerned. “Okay now that we’re away from the group, is there something you want to talk about, or do you genuinely want to exercise?”

“Think we can sue the cruise ship liner?” Arden questioned as she sat down beside Katherine. “There’s no official word but I have to believe that people are looking for us, otherwise I don’t think that I’m going to be able to hold it together”, she admitted.

“Honestly? Yes. I’m definitely going to have my father get on this when we get back.” she stated, shaking her head in disappointment. “There are. Even if it’s not the school, I’m sure our families will be looking for us.”

“She does know what she’s doing. But she hasn’t exactly got all the supplies needed to treat something like this,” Ryan pointed out. Their resources were limited. “Thank you,” she accepted the water. “What are the odds we ever get off of this island?”

“Good point. Just try to keep it as clean as you can, and keep it wrapped.” she suggested, shrugging her shoulders after. “They may not seem that high right now, but I’m sure someone will be looking for us soon, if they aren’t already.”

“I don’t think I’ll ever forgive you for putting me through the agony and torture.” Caleb joked as he attempted to divert the conversation away from the fact they were all stuck on an island. “Hey, you asked. I’m only answering your question.” he teased. “If you’re bored, go do something.”

“You survived, didn't you?” Kat asked in a rather sarcastic tone. “No need for a smart ass comments though.” she stated simply. “You know what? You’re right. Let me just go shopping at the wonderful mall that’s on this island, would you like to come with? We can get you a shirt that’s made out of leaves.”

“He can be terrible with his phone”, Lola conceded with a small chuckle. “I think he had just started to come to terms with the thought of us flying somewhere for his first vacation, only for MU to throw a spanner in the works and announce that we were going on a cruise”, she explained. “Sounds good to me. What an honor for us, we love having you as our third wheel”, she said, laughing at Katherine’s joking comment. “That’s fair enough, you’ve got plenty of time to unpack. Let’s go”.

“I’m going to have to talk to him about that.” she laughed. “Where were you guys planning to go? I know he’s made it clear that California had been the furthest of his traveling.” she pointed out. “Amazing, I’m glad the feelings are reciprocated.” Kat continued to laugh, her smile both bright and genuine. Nodding, she got up and began to make her way towards the door. “How’ve you been, Lola? It’s been a while since we last spoke.”

“What can I say? Life has made me pessimistic. It always seems to throw the worst possible option at me”, Amber told the other woman. She was anxious about being in this situation, especially as she had no idea when or if they would even be rescued; and the threat of having her past aired publicly was just further aggravating that anxiety. “How are you staying so positive?”

"Well then, shouldn’t we be speaking it into the universe that we will somehow manage to find a way off this damn island?” she pointed out with a shrug. “Because the situation itself is already exhausting and depressing. Why use more energy than necessary to scream at one another and be in this funk?”

“I’ve literally never heard of that movie”, Amber admitted. “I haven’t heard anything but that doesn’t mean that there’s not a rescue mission underway. We just won’t know about it until people show up to save us”. After Katherine had called her out on her negativity when they had last spoken, she had mentally reminded herself to try and tamp down on those thoughts when around the other woman.

“You should look it up, although I would recommend to not watch the 2012 remake.” Kat advised, giving the other a small nod. “I’m sure there is. I don’t think anyone would deliberately ignore the distress calls that were made.” she added. “How are you holding up?”
