☽ Biting the inside of the cheek
☽ That barely perceptible nod of acknowledgment Interlacing fingers and inverting palms for the aggressive stretch
☽ The point-with-chin instead of using hands

☽ That thing where someone checks their watch/phone but doesn't register the time
What gets me is not only do these two cats look damn near identical, one of them decided got picked up by a total stranger and immediately decided ‘this is my human and I’m gonna keep ‘em’.
Writing is wild. One day you’re unstoppable and the next day you’re staring at your keyboard like it personally betrayed you.
Villain Motivations
Corrupted by greed and pushed to the brink
Desire to gain the affection of the one they are infatuated with
Desperation to be acknowledged as great
Evil for evil’s sake
Fear of what would happen if they gave up control
Genuinely believing they are doing the right thing
Grief turned revenge
Having felt powerless once and swearing to never be weak again
Having literally no other choice for their own survival
Loyalty to a mentor or superior who is purposely leading them astray
Needing to prove that they are capable of succeeding
Protecting the one thing / person they have left
Protecting/increasing their wealth / power
Trying to get justice for a perceived wrong that was done to them
“Someone who is worthy of your love will never put you in a situation where you feel you must sacrifice your dignity, your integrity, or your self worth to be with them.”

Writing tips: Let bodies do the talking
Body language is one of the most powerful tools you can use in your writing, especially when it comes to dialogue.
It reveals emotion without needing long explanations, and it gives your characters presence long before they speak.
Here are some physical cues you can use to bring your scenes to life:
Crossed arms / defensive stance → guarded, annoyed, uncertain
Fidgeting with sleeves / tapping fingers → nervous, impatient
Lingering touches / brushing hands → affection, tension, desire
Tightened jaw / clenched fists → anger, restraint, frustration
Averted eyes / looking at the floor → guilt, fear, embarrassment
Stepping back / leaning away → distrust or discomfort
Tilting head / raised eyebrows → curiosity, challenge
Shoulders relaxing / exhaling slowly → relief, vulnerability
When should you rely on body language?
When you want to show an emotion instead of naming it
When dialogue alone feels flat
When you need subtext (what they won’t say out loud)
When two characters feel differently than the words they’re speaking
When you want to make a scene more sensory and grounded
Are they really calm, or is their foot tapping like a warning signal? Are they truly angry, or is it just the way their jaw tightens when they’re hurt? Are they saying “I’m fine,” but refusing to meet anyone’s eyes?
Body language adds layers. It tells the truth when your characters won’t. It can add to the rage bubbling on their lips, letting the reader know when they're just about to blow up.
Use it intentionally, and your scenes will read less like conversations on a stage and more like real people breathing on the page.
Don't use adverbs. Said is dead. Always show, never tell. Avoid cliches. Never use the word 'very.' Don't use alliteration. Don't use boring descriptors. Use unique words.
For fuck's sake, what can I use? Seriously y'all, I don't know about you, but all the advice on how to write does Jack shit for me other than make it really fucking impossible to tell a story.
Write what you want to. Fuck the rules.
This is fiction you are writing, the universe is ours to bend.
writing dialogue? easy.
describing where everyone’s standing during that dialogue and adding action tags? impossible.
It’s the Little Things That Make Them Real: Character Quirks
Physical Quirks ❖ Cracks their knuckles when thinking. ❖ Tilts their head too far when listening, like a curious bird. ❖ Always rolls up their sleeves; even when it’s freezing. ❖ Bites the inside of their cheek instead of nails. ❖ Writes with their non-dominant hand for notes/doodles. ❖ Compulsively counts stairs, tiles, or ceiling beams. ❖ Uses hand gestures way too big for the conversation. ❖ Stares just past someone’s shoulder instead of at their face. ❖ Always needs to fiddle with coins, rings, or a pen cap.
Speech/Language Quirks ❖ Uses outdated slang like it never went out of style. ❖ Slips into another language for swears or exclamations. ❖ Repeats the last word of someone else’s sentence under their breath. ❖ Adds a little whistle or hum between phrases. ❖ Ends most sentences as questions, even when they’re not. ❖ Misquotes famous sayings but insists they’re right. ❖ Can’t resist giving everything and everyone a nickname. ❖ Stutters only on words starting with the same letter as their name.
Behavioral Quirks ❖ Always chooses the same seat in any room. ❖ Eats one food at a time, in strict order, never mixing. ❖ Picks up random objects (salt shakers, paperclips) and rearranges them neatly. ❖ Never steps on cracks, lines, or patterned tiles. ❖ Hoards receipts, tickets, or fortunes from cookies. ❖ Stares at light bulbs until their eyes water. ❖ Reads the last page of a book first. ❖ Never finishes a drink—always leaves the last sip.
Psychological/Emotional Quirks ❖ Laughs during tense or uncomfortable silences. ❖ Refuses to say “goodbye”—always changes it to “see you.” ❖ Finds comfort in exact routines (same breakfast, same route). ❖ Talks to inanimate objects as though they’ll answer. ❖ Gets unreasonably angry at minor inconveniences (a pen running out, a sock slipping). ❖ Collects bizarre little “lucky” items like bottle caps or broken charms. ❖ Panics if they don’t have something in their hands. ❖ Over-apologizes, even when clearly not at fault.
EDIT: Before you share this saying 'oh this is just a list of things neurodivergent/autistic people do' let me stop you right here.
Context exists.
Check out this other post 👉 ☕️ Character Quirks (Now with Context, Since Apparently We Needed That)
I have ADHD. My brother’s autistic. I fucking get it. But as a writer—and as a human—I also know that half the things y’all are labeling “neurodivergent traits” are just people being people. One behavior can wear a hundred different reasons. That’s called context, not coding.
And yeah, some of you will get pissed about this. Go ahead. Be pissed. Better to be informed and grumpy over your morning coffee than out here diagnosing what was supposed to be applied to fictional characters for having habits you don’t understand.

high-tension romantic scenarios to get lost in
fixing each other's collar/zipper/tie/etc - getting unexpectedly close, breath catching when they realize (or their light touches burning into the other's skin)
^ also moving someone's hair out of their face/behind their ear
^ or touching someone's necklace/bracelet/watch
eye contact in a crowded room, but not exchanging any words/expressions - just looking at each other, the rest of the world going still.
^a(n unironic) wink in this situation. or an eyebrow raise, lick or bite of lips, or head tilt. there's something in the subtlety of it - like "this is between us"
pulling someone in by their belt loops??? this is so random idk
feeling the other's breath/lips ghosting their neck
any sort of whisper. anywhere. goddamn.
a long pause when someone is speaking, as though they lost their train of thought while looking at the other person
their bodies accidentally pressed together - being stuck in a small space, falling onto one another, or having to sit really close together. the pause when it's realized.
^this but they're hiding
"make me"
"i dare you"
"and if i do?"/"what will i get (if i do)?" "show/tell me what you want"
the pinky reach before holding hands for the first time
slow dancing (the hand placement, eye contact, proximity, MUSIC)
teaching the other something that involves physical contact (like holding their hands while trying to balance on a skateboard, or guiding their hands somewhere)
eye contact, waiting for one to fold
"don't do that to me" (tempting the other)
sharing earbuds - forced proximity, the vulnerability in sharing things that matter to them
i'm back!! i'm in a huge slump rn, so submit to my "ask" box if there is anything you want to see :) alsoo if you have anything to add to this list, reply to the post!! i love hearing what you guys have to say
