I have uncovered a book conspiracy I’m dying of laughter this is so funny 😂
Bad book, y’all, bad book. I’m so happy to have this, it is the WORST.
Okay so on the Witchtok table, this book was written by author (A).
In the bargain bin, it's written by author (B).
I'm thinking "Well maybe the person who wrote it changed their pen name between editions, and that's why this one is in the bargain bin."
So I'm looking for the About The Author page. There isn't one. There is also no Acknowledgements, and no dedication. The author is invisible.
There IS, however, an Introduction.
In the book with (A) on the cover, the intro is signed by (A).
In the book with (B) on the cover, the intro is signed by... (A).
THE PLOT THICKENS.
In the Sources of the book (all of which are public domain), there is a listing for Original Material by... not (A)... not (B)... but (A.5). A slight variation on the name (A). Enough that it's clearly supposed to be the same person, but... it's not.
Googling author (B) gives me nothing.
Googling author (A) gives me several links to the book on various bookselling platforms, but nothing about an actual person. No twitter, instagram, facebook, personal blog, personal website... nothing. Same result for (A.5). It just redirects me to (A) and gives me the same nothing.
The one from the bargain bin has the SAME, EXACT, IDENTICAL GUTS, and the COVER is a SIMILAR DESIGN yet all the fonts have been changed. The PUBLISHER logo is still the same, but under the barcode is a little note that says "Printed in China" that is not present (at least that I saw) on the witchtok table copy.
This is a plagarized copy of a book made from public domain copy-pasta, THIS. IS. HILARIOUS!
It's a Lisa isn't it? It's a Lisa Cunningham/Crowley/Crowly/Buckland book?
Nope, but very very close!! (Images yoinked from Google)
(I'm writing up a blog post on why I keep picking up these Dumbass Books, so sit tight for that)
But yeah, that first one is the (maybe infamous?) Anastasia Greywolf. With intro by Anastasia Greywolf. Original content provided by... Anastasia Greyleaf? And then the bargain ripoff by Tamsin Chamberlin. And NONE of these people appear to actually exist.
Oh no ... Okay, so I did a series looking into this stuff awhile ago (what is time) and now feel compelled to link it here (especially as I saw someone else post it here a few days ago). Its a 4-part series, so enjoy!
There seems to be a TON of FAKE AUTHORS selling self published books about wicca and witchcraft on Amazon. Let's talk about it.
AAH SWEET!! I gotta check that out when I get off work!
Enjoy!!!
