the  growling  in  her  stomach  was  more  than  enough  of  a  sign  to  signify  it  was  time  for  lunch.  however,  because  she  was  so  caught  up  in  her  homework,  she  kept  ignoring  the  signs.  “i’ll  go,”  she  began,  groaning  slowly  as  she  placed  her  forehead  on  the  table  and  let  her  book  hit  the  back  of  her  head.  “what  are  we  eating?”

“oh hey,” he said monotony, glancing to the first person he saw in the lounge. he decided to refrain from telling a corny pun of his and instead ask something to try and make conversation otherwise. “if animals could talk, which would be the nicest?”

it  was  a  dream  to  read  nietzsche  in  its  original  language  so  she  spent  nearly  all  morning  practicing  her  german  vocabulary.  she  had  been  so  caught  up  with  her  studies  that  she  failed  to  notice  the  time.  when  kath  finally  heard  someone  address  her,  her  big  brown  eyes  blinked  in  confusion.  “hi.”  she  mumbled  out,  her  brain  taking  in  the  changing  of  the  lighting  and  the  people  missing  that  were  there  hours  ago.  “oh!  um..  i  think  cheetahs  would  be  the  nicest.  what  about  you?”

         HE HAD SPENT THE whole afternoon carving pumpkins, after all he didn’t know what the ship would do with all these orange spheres and a part of him felt bad that they would go to waste. so pushing through his dorm room door, a huge smile spread across his lips as he balanced them all surprisingly well…especially given the fact he’d sipped on halloween themed drinks for the whole night. “kat….kat!! are you here?!” he called out happily, plopping down the pumpkins onto his bed before kicking his shoes off haphazardly, “hellooooo?”

in  the  spirit  of  halloween,  katherine  decided  to  celebrate  by  watching  the  entire  halloween  franchise  in  one  sitting.  even  though  she  had  seen  the  series  over  and  over  again  throughout  the  years,  there  were  still  bits  and  pieces  that  never  failed  to  scare  her.  just  as  the  final  girl  was  facing  off  michael,  the  door  to  her  dorm  swung  open,  making  the  blonde  gasp  loudly.  “dax!”  she  cried  out,  her  palm  pressed  against  her  chest  once  she  saw  her  roommate  coming  into  the  room.  it  hadn’t  taken  her  long  to  connect  the  dots  that  he  wasn’t  exactly  the  most  sober.  the  blonde  hadn’t  forgotten  he  went  out  on  a  date,  and  while  a  part  of  her  looked  slightly  discouraged  from  the  fact  itself,  she  was  happy  he  had  enjoyed  himself  nonetheless.  “you  scared  the  heck  outta  me!”  she  admitted  while  crawling  out  of  bed  with  a  bowl  of  popcorn  in  hand.  “um.  hi.”  katherine  greeted,  standing  before  him  as  a  giggle  slipped  out,  her  cheeks  tickled  pink  at  how  delighted  he  seemed.  “i’m  here,  i’m  here.  what’s  up?”

after  the  dare  that  she  was  more  or  less  inclined  to  choose  over  reliving  trauma,  kat  grabbed  a  pastel  pink  piece  of  paper  and  writes  a  quick  note  on  it.  she  then  decides  to  spray  it  with  a  little  bit  of  perfume  as  it  is  her  first  love  letter  and  she  wants  to  commit  to  the  concept.  once  it  is  complete,  she  shoves  it  in  an  envelope  and  seals  it  with  a  red  lipstick  kiss  mark.  after  all  the  preparation,  she  walks  to  his  dorm  and  slides  it  under  his  door.

the  letter  reads  as  such:

i  have  a  crush  on  you.  i  hope  this  confession  reaches  you  safely.

p.s  meet  me  at  the  pool  tomorrow  at  5am  for  a  race,  its  been  too  long!

“hi  —  uhh..  can  i  walk  with  you,  please?”  katherine  asked  as  soon  as  she  spotted  a  familiar  face  in  the  crowd,  her  new  york  accent  sounding  a  lot  more  prominent  the  more  she  tried  rejecting  the  fuzzy  feeling  of  being  drunk.  “the  luao  was  so  much  fun..  i’ve  never  been  to  one  until  now  —  oh  my  gosh,  and  their  blue  hawaiians??  they  tasted  just  like  juice!  i,  ummm..  think  i  had  three?  wanna  see??”  the  blonde  looked  like  an  excitable  little  kid  as  she  pulled  her  phone  out  to  show  them  pictures,  her  head  and  neck  still  covered  with  multiple  fragrant  leis  and  a  traditional  haku  lei.  “pretty,  right?  i  like  blue  now.”

Gertie wasn’t particularly happy to be in Hawaii. It was a beautiful place, there was no denying that, but beaches weren’t her thing. Still, it was better than being lost at sea for days on end, right? She was trying her best to find the silver lining. Which was getting increasingly harder to do sober. Turning to Kath, she wiggled her eyebrows. “How do you feel about getting drunk on a rooftop?”

given  katherine’s  lack  of  financial  stability,  hawaii  was  a  place  she  never  imagined  she  would  get  to  see  in  her  lifetime.  there  was  a  childlike  wonder  in  her  eyes  whenever  something  new  presented  itself  to  her,  like  the  crystal  clear  waters  and  black  sand  beaches.  she  was  about  to  speak  up  when  gertie  beat  her  to  it,  a  smile  flashing  across  her  features.  “oh...  i  don’t  know...  its  been  a  while  since  i’ve  last  gotten  drunk.”  the  blonde  almost  looks  shy  as  she  suddenly  stands  from  her  seat,  fists  pressed  against  her  hips.  it  didn’t  take  long  for  her  to  decide  the  moment  she  faced  her  friend,  her  brows  raising.  one  drink  couldn’t  hurt..  “but..  when  in  hawaii,  right?  lead  the  way.”
