URGENT APPEAL! HELP ME SAVE MY FAMILY FROM THE HORRORS OF WAR
Hello everyone,
My name is Aya, and I’m reaching out from Gaza. I am addressing you after a complete year of a devastating war that left disastrous impacts on our lives. I led a good life along with my family that was once happy, but things took an ugly turn since war eruption. Despite difficulties, we managed to cope somehow. Yet, it has been a complete year of fear, anxiety and lack of certainty, and this isn't ending anytime soon. For this reason, we have decided to evacuate Gaza and start over in a new place. I love my hometown. I certainly do, but the survival of my family is at stake! I am appealing to you to help me save my family by raising the necessary funds to safely evacuate Gaza. You are kindly invited to read my story as I try to explain in simple words unexplainable feelings of misery, desperation and bitterness.
Sweet home, no more
At first, we were forced to leave the comfort of our house in order to seek refuge in a safer place. Well, it turned out that there's no thing such as a safe place in Gaza and, sadly, our sweet home was damaged. To a small family, like us, home means everything. It means safety, comfort and love, but no more!
A complete turnaround
A complete turnaround
Before war, we enjoyed a comfortable life. Our house was fully equipped with the latest gadgets. Everything we needed was just a click away. Yet, we have gone through a complete turnaround. Since the beginning of the war a year ago, we had no power supply, no water, and no cooking gas! We are literary a century back in time. We use wood for cooking and heating, stand in lines for water supply and manually move water from very far places.
Aya
It's me. I loved cooking, graphic design and reading. Yet, all of this sounds now like a distant memory. The war has effectively killed my passions, as all I am thinking about in the meantime is the safety and survival of my family. I worked as a content creator, studied to be a professional graphic designer and had big dreams, but sadly they are all gone!
Dad
My father, Ayman, worked as a respected computer engineer at a big tech company. He loved his work, but sadly, he doesn't work anymore as the company stopped operating in Gaza. My father suffers from high blood pressure, and I am seriously worried about his safety and health, considering the shortage in medications and healthcare services in the war-torn Gaza. My father is also occupied by our safety and survival which increases his illness. Being responsible for a family of five members isn't a small feet in normal conditions, not to mention in wartime.
Mom
My mom, Eman, is my sweetheart. Despite the challenges, she took care of us every single day for over a year of displacement. Regardless of the challenges, she kept on supporting us without complaining. However, I am increasingly worried that she might collapse under this unbearable pressure.
Granny
My 85-year old granny is the most vulnerable person in our family. she is chronically sick, and the lack of medications and healthcare only makes her condition even worse! My granny, who barely walks, is displaced over and over again and is forced to move dozens of kilometers every time we get displaced.
Ahmad
My brother, Ahmad, worked at a big tech company and was preparing to get married. He had a promising future and a great career ahead, but all of his dreams have vanished in the dust of war. He lost his job. I am really worried about his safety as he is growingly depressant!
The line between safety and peril
To safely evacuate Gaza, we need to travel through Rafah border crossing, which increasingly represents the line between safety and peril. However, we are asked to pay a huge sum (7,000 USD per person) which we cannot afford, as the war has drained our savings. That's why I decided to turn to you for help. Please, save our lives. Your donation, no matter how small, can decide our safety.

US citizens, did you vote?
i voted for kamala harris
i voted for donald trump
i voted third party or wrote someone in
i am eligible to vote in US elections, but I chose not to
i am not eligible to vote in US elections
no matter whether you think voting is very important for protecting the right to protest, or a tacit approval of the US government actions and inactions, or anything in between, we can all agree that what is most important right now is to directly help the people of Gaza.
no matter the result of the election today, my friend Hala @hala-15 will be displaced in Egypt with her young son Abdul Aziz. Abdul Aziz was born with a condition called hirschsprung's disease, in which the nerves in the colon do not form properly. Children with hirschsprung's disease are not able to pass waste, and can die from terrible blockages in their intestines.
Abdul Aziz needs surgery to remove the affected part of his colon so that he can poop. voting or not voting will not help him. what will help him is if we can raise money for Hala to pay for his surgeries. Hala had raised almost 500 euro on gofundme, when gofundme did a massive purge of Palestinian fundraiser, and Hala's account was deleted with no warning, and all the money was returned to donors.
If you have already donated, or if you are seeing this for the first time, please send your donations to Hala's paypal account. Hala's blog @hala-15 has pictures in arabic and in english of Abdul Aziz, and of his medical records. her story has been independently verified by @90-ghost. No matter how you feel about voting, Hala still needs help, and every donation, even just one euro, will help her pay for Abdul Aziz's surgeries.
Help support Amar Abo Alqomboz by donating or sharing with your friends.
if you voted, if you didn't vote, if you can't vote: no matter what, please share hala's fundraiser!
how is the poll at 27 votes but there's only five reblogs ?? if you vote in the poll, please share the fundraiser!
If every person who voted in this poll donated ten euro, hala would be 20% of the way to her goal, despite having been set back to nothing this morning! Don’t just vote, donate too!
Did you vote in the US election?

This campaign is vetted (#4 on the list)!
€31,960 has been raised as of the time I post this, it's getting closer to the goal than before!
I created this art as a gift for my friend Diya. This is his son, Magdy and his cat whose story I shared here.
Right now, Diya is separated from his family in Gaza and has been for over a year. His family is facing the second winter since they were displaced from their home. The winters in Gaza are harsh. People are taking shelter in flimsy tents, that don't protect them from the wind and rain. The rain brings with it flooding that destroys everything. Diseases are spreading with no access to proper sanitation and medical care. When they went to receive polio vaccinations, they witnessed an IOF attack on the taxi in front of them.
The last donation was 6 hours ago, and there have only been 4 donations in the 24 hours. We need to help Diya reach his short-term goal of 30% so he can help his family purchase winter supplies that they need to survive. It is already November. There is literally no time to waste. His family has suffered through so much already. Please stand by them and do everything you can to support them. Share this post and donate. With your help we can reach the goal!
This campaign is vetted by association here. It is also #55 on the Gaza Vetters List by @/gazavetters.

It's wild to see people advance these completely made-up histories
So, if voting mattered, gay marriage would be legal nationwide. It was legal, in 2008, but Democrats repealed it in 2013 and it's remained illegal since.
So first up: huh???
Gay marriage is legal nationwide. Right this second. In 2008 it became legal in a few states, most notably California, but not federally, and then California blocked gay marriage with Proposition 8 that year. 2013 was when the Supreme Court struck down Proposition 8 & the Defense of Marriage Act, which was a good thing. Then in 2015 two Bill Clinton justices, two Obama justices, and one Reagan appointee (who went less conservative in the court & who was a moderate nominated when Democrats torpedoed the nomination of Robert Bork) legalized gay marriage nationwide. Which is still the law.
(I keep seeing people claim it's Revisionist History to attribute Obergefell to Obama, since activists pressured him into that, and it can't be both the Supreme Court and activists responsible, it can only be one. Because of course gay rights activists would've been able to pressure John McCain or Mitt Romney and whoever they appointed to the court just as much!)
In 2022, the Biden administration passed the Respect for Marriage Act, which forced states to recognize gay marriages from other states even if it's banned again. "It would be legal nationwide by now" - it is legal! Now! The best case scenario is that this person got very confused by the legalization and repeal of it in California, the worst case scenario is they're just lying.
True, there is no federal "you can get gay married everywhere" bill. But there also can't be? Marriage licenses are granted by states. That's why states were able to legalize gay marriage under the Defense of Marriage Act, and why even after that Republicans talked about a constitutional amendment against it, only that or a Supreme Court decision could do that everywhere at once. Same with the unenforceable anti-gay marriage bills in the states, the federal government can render those unenforceable, but it doesn't have authority to make states take them off the books. Do people just not understand the difference between federal, state, and local government anymore?
Anyway if someone has to contort history this badly to make a case that something doesn't matter, it probably does
I thought about them again, i really like when halloween specials show characters in fun costumes, specially when the characters already usually wear costumes…

This is the one thing that I would definitely do regardless of state. For those not in the know, a passport is the way to get an easy name or gender marker change onto your ID without a court battle, and that is highly dependent on the Federal administration.

Yeah, that letter in Batgirls #14 was very, very gay. But when I read it again (instead of finishing Batgirl 2000 but insert good excuse here) I realized that it's also… very sad? And I haven't seen anyone talking about it? Stephanie is such an optimistic and cheerful character that people often forget how much trauma she went through… and even I, who am very aware of this every time I read about her, tend to think that she copes with the trauma she went through quite well, especially compared to other bats. But in the letter, she admits that she is good at pretending, to herself and to the world, that she is dealing with what she went through, when in fact she is not.
"I'm good at compartmentalizing- put the hard stuff in boxes, then go on and pretending like I dealt with it."
It's a better coping strategy than what Bruce or Tim or Cass have, but it's still not a very healthy coping strategy, even when you don't have as much trauma as Steph.
"for years, any time i heard a car door slam, i'd panic. it was hell."
That sentence… I'm not a psychologist, but I know enough about PTSD to know it's not a good sign.
She admits that she laughs at things she doesn't find funny, and in fact were very traumatic for her. and she's totally fine with the fact that there's a chance she'll die. She knows Cass might not get there in time, and she's totally fine with that. I mean, I guess indifference to your own death is something you have to develop if you're a hero, but still… it's pretty sad
