     ` — two against two, huh? i like it,` technically, that was a crisis postponed, not CANCELLED. jason is relieved for the time being; his brain is on overdrive figuring out how to get the stolls to agree. maybe he should just tell them they could put out bets on which pair would win? hmmmn… in which case — 

     `how ‘bout i double with you?` he’s a chaser, so… maybe that would be cheating? `we’re more likely to win, y’see.`

         he’s got a point, but she didn’t expect him to be one for taking a little more of a ‘vague’ route. piper has no doubt in her head this will be quite an experience, and judging by the little smirk on her face, she’s excited for it. 

          “ alright. deal, let’s go get those two involved before they realize just who put perfume in her broom cleaner bottle. ”

     well, she wouldn’t be the only one. he’s lost track of how often leo reminds him. at least he can add ‘better than a bird’ to his list of good qualities. that, and the fact he’d gotten her to blush. a rarity, particularly when SHE was the one usually making him turn cherry red.

     and the score so far is grace 1, mclean 0. 

       “ You’re definitely one of the biggest dorks in existence. ”

      she presses a gentle kiss to his cheek, along with a soft nudge of her elbow in his side. yeah, he’s much better than a bird-- much better than a lot of things, really. while she didn’t care for her mom, she had to admit, she did like being in love an awful lot.

     `how’s this for an option? you guys just — knock the crap out of each other on the quidditch pitch,` he remembers the charm to get the goalposts to swing out of the way for target practice — if beckendorf gives him permission, anyway. `most goals in five minutes wins. loser gets a pie in the face. the halls are safe from you, and them, and you also get to gloat about being a better shot — how ‘bout it, mclean?`

         she thinks about it for a moment. it’s not as exciting, but, alright, fine-- but she couldn’t promise if the stolls would exactly agree to his terms. the halls were safe, for the time being, but no doubt they’d cause yet another prank war one of these days. “ alright. let’s go get leo in on it, and sure. i’ll go for it. ”

        “ Well, hey, as long as you’re not planning to use it to cause harm to the other campers--” that’s where piper drew the line with practical jokes. pranks were fun, and all, but she never liked seeing people in pain because of them. “ it’ll be alright. just make sure nobody gets hurt . ”

     it hadn’t occurred to her that her captive would be listening, much less replying to her verbalized thoughts — the hull is dimly lit and she finds herself grateful for it, as the other wouldn’t be able to make up the surprise in her features. she chose her next words carefully — the captain had no plans of letting her prized catch go anytime soon so she couldn’t go mouth off elsewhere, but she knew that it would only further damage her notoriety and image if she followed with another foolish choice of thoughts let slip aloud.

     " the sea is full of things nobody knows is there, hm? ” her captive’s words did hold a degree of truth, but she still clicks her tongue, disapproving. “ well, some things are better left untouched — or otherwise you might find yourself in a deeper  of a rut than you were originally in. could be avoided if you use good judgement, learn to pick your battles — ” a smirk plays up on her lips then, bleeding into her tone as an almost mocking lilt, “ a skill i believe you could use more of, otherwise you wouldn’t have found yourself aboard my ship as a captive. ”

      “ as good of a point as that is , i don’t think i’ll be learning that skill anytime soon . ” well, she might. but as relaxed and as calm she might be about her current predicament -- really, in a way, being captive was an adventure in itself -- she still was more aggressive than the previous pirate crew she’d been with it. clearly proven herself worthy of being captured. she wasn’t even sure what her captor planned to do with her now that she had her on the ship.

      “ . . . back to the sea, however, don’t you think it’s odd how we can’t go so far down into the sea? ” she asked. she’d always wondered if there was lost treasures, down there, where humans physically could never go. she wasn’t scared of it, rather, it’d always interested her. what haven’t they seen? were they even supposed to see it? “ swim as far down as you want, but we’re not ever going to see what’s really down there. we can barely see what’s on the surface, outside of the normal fish and sunken ship yards. ”

That’ll definitely be a challenge for them, and they’re much less harmful to other students. Worst case scenario: somebody gets a pie in the face. or two. ”
