Woodburning. Levi Ackerman (Shingeki no Kyojin)
Any Italian fan of Attack on Titan?
I want to talk about it with someone!
My RTTE Dagur genderbend cosplay is finally complete! (And my parrot is always there 😑)
Imagine what would happen if HTTYD characters meet MCU Avengers, including Thor. I think it would be fun! The Vikings meet by live their god!
Yas! Dude, I think it would totally be fun and entertaining. XD
Poor Loki with the twins, though. Poor, poor, poor Loki…….
And poor Bruce... he would have to relax a lot because the dragons would be very stressful for Hulk
Help request
Hi! I need someone from the Japanese HTTYD fandom (if it exist) or someone who know Japanese language and culture (possibly over 18 years old) who can help me for a fanfiction I am near to write. The fanfiction unfortunately will not be in English, but in my language (Italian), and I need help for a character that is from Japan because I don’t know so well that culture. If there is someone interested to help me please contact me in private
Not bad for someone who didn't use a pencil for a long time :)
Random fact: I actually intentionally write longer-than-necessary responses and analyses. The reason is that one sentence can be easily misinterpreted, but saying the same thing in different ways helps clarify meaning. If someone doesn’t accurately understand the sentence the first way it’s phrased, they might get it when it’s phrased differently the second time. And if there’s a very large point to be made in the commentary, reiterating it multiple times drives the point home further. As much as brevity is a great and respectable skill, I’ve had enough discourse online with people to know that things get misread fast. I’d rather have a few people choose not to read my posts because they’re long, than have the people who choose to read my posts misunderstand them. Doubt that anyone’s wondered why I have such lengthy responses, but yeah! It’s actually intentional! XD
katyjolinar replied to your post:
Read a subject repeated in different way in the same text could be useful also for non-English speaking people like me, that learn the language but sometimes don’t understand all the words and can lose the real meaning of a subject. So, for me your kind of writing is perfect ;) thanks
Oh my goodness, thank you so much for telling me this! This is so good for me to know! Because I guess this is something I’ve wondered about from time to time? Sometimes I worry that my posts are harder to read for non-native English speakers people because my texts are so long (also I admittedly don’t watch my vocabulary level and I put in lots of adverbial filler language…). To hear this feedback makes me feel better about writing posts that I know are read by people who don’t speak English as their first language. <3 I’m glad the writing works for you! :)
I also admire your style in your analysis. Even in my native language I am not so able to use more words than the minimum I need for explain a concept. If a thing can be explained with only two words I only use two words, and try to use three words is very difficult to me. I am not a linguist, neither a literature studious, I only have a high school specialization in chemistry. It means that I am more confident with math, physics, chemistry and science in general. I am good with numbers and chemical formulas, and they are essential, you don't need to write more than the minimum you need. Yes, I read a lot, I love literature, especially my country's literature (I grew up with Dante Alighieri, Alessandro Manzoni and other classic authors of Italian literature), but I am not able to write more than the essential. For this I love your style, because you can do a thing I am not so able to do, and thank to you I can understand better your concepts in your language
So what are you in here for?
Whoa! Take it easy, Hicstrid
Spock/Uhura (both TOS and Kelvin timelines)
Send me a ship and i’ll rate it
vomit / don’t ship / ok / cute / adorable / sexy / perfect / beyond flawless/ hot damn / screaming and crying / i will ship them in hell
Spuhura is a ship I respect because it’s canon - and canon in both timelines.
I remember when Star Trek XI first came out and some people complained about the romance between Uhura and Spock, claiming it came out of “nowhere.” I would always lovingly point them to the first half of TOS S1, where Uhura and Spock are seen flirting with one another. It’s reciprocated, too. Sure, there are moments where Spock subverts flirting (for instance, Uhura asking Spock about the moons on his planet is meant to be a romantic… and he just answers “Vulcan has no moon”). But we also see Uhura sing, Spock play his harp with her, and Spock give her a bit of a smile. Spuhura was never something that was developed into a full-blown relationship in TOS, but the underlying first season flirting is real. And that’s cute.
So I was totally fine with Spuhura appearing in the new ST movies, too! And still am! :))) I don’t like it as much because it’s so much more overt. I don’t care for the almost “steamy” element that appears at times… I don’t need sexy Spuhura for viewer “gratification”, but I rather prefer a more subtle smile while someone is singing. Though… there are some amusing moments between them I enjoy in the new ’verse. Uhura and Spock arguing in STID with Kirk in the middle was hysterical, as was the whole STB “You gave your girlfriend radioactive jewelry? You gave your girlfriend a tracking device?”
I am a trekker since I was a young girl, but I discovered again the Original Series recently. And I am a Spuhura shipper, for both the TOS and Kelvin!verse. I think that Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana did an excellent work to recreate the chemistry that Leonard Nimoy and Nichelle Nichols had in the series. It wasn't simple, also because of the "evolution" of the relationship in the new universe, but it was a great job (also considering that Zachary is gay, and rarely I saw a gay actor play a straight role as good as he did). In my country there is a large Star Trek community (the STIC - Star Trek Italian Club), but it is hard to find someone who says that Spuhura is a good ship, usually they preferred Uhura/Scotty (I love them too, they are cute) or, mostly, Uhura/Kirk, because of the kiss. About the famous interracial Uhura/Kirk kiss, I don't like it so much, because I consider it as the same level of a rape. They are forced to kiss each other, there is nothing that can be said romantic in all the scene! It is more romantic how Spock and Uhura look at each other in various episodes, and there is a lot of sexual tension in the singing scene you cited here! And... last but not least: I love how Bones in STB says to Spock the thing about the tracking device! I laugh every time, and I think that he will say to Nyota about it... and I would not be in Spock's boots when she will know it!
I don't know how many fans of the tv series Fringe there are in the HTTYD/RTTE fandom, and if I am the only one who thinks that Death Song Amber is a reference of Quarantine Amber used in Walternate Universe
Maybe I’ll write a more concrete-with-evidence analytical post later, but I’m in an explosion of SCREAMS right now so I have to SCReAm right now about it… because villain!Johann.
I wouldn’t be surprised if some people feel like the writers pulled that out of nowhere. Except I don’t think they did. I remember watching the first seasons of Race to the Edge feeling suspicious about Johann… especially that scene where Hiccup frustratedly questions Johann for information.
That scene sparked my wariness of Johann for the first time. I never voiced suspicions because I didn’t want to spark a wild baseless fandom theory, but… it always seemed odd that Johann always had pertinent information that the dragon riders would want to know… and that at the same time they followed this information, they got into trouble. It always seemed odd how often Johann was around people related to Viggo and the dragon hunters. I need to rewatch clips and episodes now, but I swear this was subtly foreshadowed throughout the series.
Not to mention it all makes complete sense, even starting with the very first episode of Race to the Edge. Think about it! Dragon Eye of the Beholder Part 1 started with Johann coming, terrified, to Hiccup and company. He just happens to have enough information that Hiccup and his friends can track Dagur… to a very specific and important location…
Trader Johann: When Dagur commandeered my precious ship, he also came into possession of a very important map… one that leads to a graveyard of ships hidden in that fog bank.
This is the location where Hiccup and his companions find the Dragon Eye. Johann indicates at the end of S5 that he has a desire to hunt down information about dragons, so he would be interested in the knowledge of the Dragon Eye, did he know of it. And being as Johann seems to hear information from around the world, travel afar, and the like… it’s not all too surprising that Johann would know about this. If anyone would know about it, a well-traveled man who talks to everyone on every island would know about it.
Now, Johann’s reason for how he knew about the ship graveyard always felt like a shaky reason to me. Seriously…
Trader Johann: It’s where I store all my treasures and wares.
There are plenty of distant, unexplored, uninhabited, or sparsely populated islands across the Barbaric Archipelago. It would be stupid to hide your wares in an area covered in giant eels. It would be stupid to hide your wares in a ship graveyard where you could so easily crash yourself. It would be so stupid to hide your wares in ships that could literally collapse and sink to the bottom of the ocean at any given minute. Would Johann really store his extra wares there? Highly doubt it.
And he even demonstrates a little too much knowledge of that graveyard for what a merchant should, honestly. He knows that the name of the flagship is the Reaper. The name of the ship is written in cuneiform. So how would he know that this is the Reaper? Especially since he said he barely made a foot on board that ship because of the booby traps. So how would he know so much about it unless he actually really cared about this ship and the secrets it held (the Dragon Eye)?
Espionage as a merchant… it’s a perfect cover, too. Seriously.
I swear guys, villain!Johann didn’t come out of nowhere.
And honestly…
I just… I love him more given the last few minutes of season 5. Like, I got this excited thrill to see him step out and talk menacingly. It felt genuine. He was really releasing himself, really expressing him. I just got this… AOWING:OEIN I AM SO HAPPY.
Season 6 has so much awesome potential now that we’ve got ourselves a triumvirate of villains. A triumvirate, guys! This isn’t some single villain with a sidekick and a collection of no-name disposable cronies. These are three unique, major, equal, intelligent antagonists working together for a common goal.
So cool.
So happy.
YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUS.
I think that some elements that give us the suspect that Johan is a villain are also in RoB and DoB. He is always related with something that can hurt dragons, or similar things. Remember the Blue Oleander affair? It is true that it was Mildew that planted the flowers, but it was Johan that gave him them. It is true that he is a trader, so his first thought is about the money he can have selling his stuff, but why sell something that he actually knew we’re venomous for dragons in an island where they live in peace with dragons for months? Another trader would never do it, because he could lose a lot of potential clients that can buy your stuff, and it is against your business. So I think that he planned from the moment he knew about what happened in Berk with dragons, immediately after the Red Death affair
Yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!
Incidences like Breakneck Bog I don’t think would have been contrived… Johann wouldn’t have gotten a ship wrecked up so high off the ground for a ploy… but I’m going to have to look through the rest of ROB and DOB, because I was also contemplating his presence in Frozen and whether or not that would have been meaningful. There’s just… I’m going to be rewatching so many episodes now and staring closely at Johann.
But dang. I didn’t think about the Blue Oleanders, Johann’s business viability, and how he’s probably not so clean there either. That. is. a. really. really. really. REALLY. good. point.
Johann is suspicious regarding the Blue Oleander affair. I can’t imagine that Mildew would have known off the top of his head that these particular flowers were poisonous to dragons. Mildew is clever, but he also didn’t go out of the way to learn things… whenever he did something clever, it was to fake things. But Mildew hated dragons and wanted nothing to do with them - he was part of the generation that only cared about knowing how to violently harm and kill dragons, not chase them away or protect them with botanical knowledge. It almost suggests that Mildew would have had to come to Johann and request for something that would have been poisonous to dragons, and then Johann inform him that these flowers would do the trick.
Dang this is so great.
I think also in Breakneck Bog there is something wrong in Johan. I need to do a general rewatch of the series to see him in this new perspective.
Maybe I’ll write a more concrete-with-evidence analytical post later, but I’m in an explosion of SCREAMS right now so I have to SCReAm right now about it… because villain!Johann.

It is fun that they show the Vulcan nerve-pinch (citing Star Trek) in an episode where there is Mark Hamill (from Star Wars)
I FUCKING LOVE THE FINALE OF SEASON 5!!!!!
Another wish for season 5
As a HTTYD and Star Trek fan I am happy to see a lot of direct reference about ST in RTTE.
So my wish is to see Hiccup in a Kobayashi Maru situation, maybe with Tuffnut that says or does something like it was for the Stockholm Syndrome and Penicillin, citing the Kobayashi Maru somehow. And it would be great if Hiccup solve it using a technique that reminds Kirk’s solution for the test
@kingofthewilderwest as a ST fan also you could be happy to see it, I think
