I’m glad they’re doing a slowburn on Nami and Zoro’s loyalty to Luffy. I mean Nami was a given but Zoro was kinda like “well he’s my captain so I guess I have to go with it” in the beginning, but here he’s a little more “look I guess I’m running with you for a while but who knows where this will go” and so it’s allowing Nami and Zoro to build up their dynamic as what will be the right and left hands of Luffy.

Luffy’s off doing Luffy things and they’re the ones who are gonna get business done. The mutual recognition of authority between them is what carries over as they gain new members who know without question that when things get serious, Zoro and Nami have the next level of authority under Luffy.

And it’s kinda fun bc Zoro and Nami are both played by the two most knowledgeable of the original source material. They have the insider track on Nami and Zoro’s motivations, their individual dynamics with Luffy and with each other and how that develops over time. So it’s fun to see them trying to encourage some of that nuance into their acting.
