Found this on instagram and now I’m gonna be singing it all day:

The alternative to genAI is not "use your brain."
genAI is an alternative to internet literacy, not creative thinking. If trends continue, you will have to use genAI, because the internet is fragmenting. We require tools that can sort, prioritize, and deliver information. Yes, genAI is great at this! But we have lower-tech tools too! Or, we had them.
When Wikipedia, Youtube, social medias, and search engines (like Google) were popularizing, people learned how to use these tools to access information created by other people. You could "find" what you need (article, video, photograph, etc) by just knowing the right way to phrase a query.
Our systems of information are so deeply broken now. Everything is slop, behind a paywall, or requires you to download their app. The internet is still developing, yet we're back to square one with our access to it! Well, never fear: you can be sure there are some engineers very hard at work to make LLMs useful. It's no PageRank, but fuck me, at least it works. Now you have to "generate" what you need by knowing the right way to phrase a prompt.
Using Perplexity to answer a question that would normally take me 5 minutes to answer with a traditional search engine is like doing the dishes with a powerwasher. Can we save the Internet?
July 22, 2026 - People around the USA are taking down Flock AI surveillance cameras. [video]
Find license plate readers (LPRs) near you.
direct action works!!
physically interfering with the cameras is highly effective but obviously it's not a type of activism that's accessible to everyone — so if like me you think warrentless surveillance is never ever ever a reasonable thing for a government to do, but you're also like me and can't personally climb camera poles to dismantle that shit:
check out the August 16-22 week of action!
Mass surveillance doesn't equal safety. Join the movement to dismantle automated license plate readers in our communities.
big and small cities all over the US (and one so far in Canada!) are holding events like education sessions, marches, and public lobbying meetings with the local governments and police departments that decide whether to spend taxpayer money on warrantless surveillance. maybe my city and yours can join the nearly 100 places that have already rejected or ended contracts for mass privacy violation cameras.
They don't just share with governments; they share with anyone, including foreign organisations. Mass surveillance as a service == Spys for the highest bidder.
Google AI Overview court loss in Germany could spell doom for AI search industry.
"Google AI Overview court loss in Germany could spell doom for AI search industry."
It fucking better.
Like to charge, reblog to cast?
I hate Elon musk so fucking much
Exactly!!!!!
as joyce carol oates once said, “the poorest persons on twitter may have access to more beauty & meaning in life than the ‘most wealthy person in the world.’”

i like tumblr because occasionally i’ll be recommended a 12 year old post that depicts something so absolutely my shit that it makes me believe in art again
At no point should I be offered a manditory opt-in AFTER making a payment.
I asked one of my (male) friends to stop using the phrase “man up” and he has been using “fortify” for the past two weeks instead and it’s just a little thing but honestly it makes a difference
and tbh it’s also pretty funny when I start to deflate in the library and he leans over and goes “FORTIFY”
Dude, fortify is bangin’. That makes things like you’re some kind of RPG character. Fortify is way better than “man up.”
Happy 10th anniversary to Fortify

Honestly, I don't think we can save the internet we're used to. All the pieces are in place for a massive collapse.
But a lot of the internet will probably survive that collapse - specifically becaue they aren't compatible (or specifically protected/poisoned against) with the sicker, popularized internet that's currently dying.
So uh... yeah. Only way through is through I guess?
just wanna say i am a big fan of this trope specifically
[Video Description: a lynx casually walks down a snow covered bank, onto a log and reaches a frozen river. The lynx takes two steps; the ice cracks loudly. Instantly the lynx stands still. It then looks around and then leaps. The lynx makes a landing on the other side of the river, a faint crack can be heard. It continues on its way unfazed. /End VD.]
That’s a guy who’s fallen through the ice before, lmao.
IMMACULATE REACTION
dawn dimmadome? wife of doug dimmadome, owner of the dimmsdale dimmadome?
actually she took the dimmadome in the dimmadivorce
She was dimmadone with his dimmashit
I think the correct term is dimmadone with his dimmadung
I mean it's not the NORMAL character of the media that's gonna stand out
teamwork makes the dream work. and dreamwork. makes shrek
fantastic. i love it. i posted this after my wife said it yesterday and as i was doing it i was like "this can't be an original thought. as soon as i hit post someone's going to say 'you stole this from a tweet from 2014' and i'll say 'no, i stole it from my beautiful wife.'"
reblog if you’ve had an online friendship that’s lasted more than 2 years
