Dangling High

Dangling High is getting a nice little re-release into Kindle Unlimited on August 14th, and I've got some open ARC sign-ups for it now.

I wrote this novel very quickly in response to the election and my fear/fury over the outcome. I imagined what the future might be like with the U.S. going so intensely toward fascism, and I figured it'd be a total economic/social/technological collapse that results in a world much like the 1800s.

Having recently taken a couple of college courses on Native American Horror and African American Westerns, I thought the Western genre would be a perfect one to use to offer up my critiques.

This book is highly political - it's progressive and liberal, and it defies the expectations of a typical Western while also delivering on the aspects of it that feel necessary. There are train robberies, small town shootouts, clear cut bad guys, and morally gray good ones. Oh, and did I mention, it's also an MM romance with a bisexual outlaw reluctantly falling for a bisexual Shoshone-Bannock sheriff after accidentally landing himself in his custody.

Dangling High is a fast-paced, quick read with a substantial amount of action, sharp political commentary, and a tender romance at its heart that will have you rooting for the protagonists while eagerly waiting for the villains to get what they deserve.

Hopped on a little art trend. It was done with a single person, but I felt like it fit the characters from my next novel, Holden and Zach, perfectly.

They are a couple of separated husbands who continue to be emotionally tied long after Holden served Zachary with divorce papers for cheating.

Their love is painful and deteriorates over the course of twenty long years, but when they come together to work on a mutual project, they start working on things in ways they never did before, and it gives them both a little hope that maybe, just maybe, they can build something better from the ashes.

The book is finished, but I am waiting on the cover and have a launch planned for February 2, 2027. ARCs will go out much sooner, though, so that's something I'll be updating about as the time approaches :)

The Exhaustion of a Queer Indie Author

I want to acknowledge how tired I am, and most of it is because Meta banned my ad account just as I was starting to see success as an author. The ban was swift, permanent, and implemented with no means of meaningful appeal or explanation of what content policy I supposedly violated. So far as I can tell, I was banned for the audacity of being queer.

It has always been a tough landscape to be an indie author, and I've been pushing for over six years now. When I launched The Things We Didn't Know series, it resonated. People liked it, were interested in it, and I was, for the first time ever, earning more money on the novels than I was spending on the ads.

And then the ban happened.

And now? Now, an account that I've poured my heart and soul into building and growing for more than two years is back to no visibility, no success, no hope.

So, yeah. I'm tired. I'm tired because I have to start from scratch, and I think this is a great place to do it, but also? For how long will this platform allow my LGBTQ+ stories to openly exist?

It seems we are steadily on the path toward fascist censorship, which makes me believe even more that my stories, which are unabashedly against the conservative politics that harm my community, need to be put out into the world.

The timing is bad. The world around me is bad. The monopolies these massive corporations have when they legally shouldn't is reprehensible.

And yet... we persist.

I'm tired. I'm exhausted.

But there is no way I'm ever giving up on this fight.
